Walmart Workers Protest Over Compensation At Oakland Store [Hostess Twinkie Them!]
CBS San Francisco ^ | November 21, 2012

About 20 people gathered in front of the Oakland Walmart store on Edgewater Drive Wednesday to demand better pay and work schedules.

Richmond Walmart store employee Anthony Bravo joined fellow demonstrators and said the company starts associates at minimum wage, but reported $15 billion in profits last year.

“We didn’t see nothing. I didn’t see none of that. It really makes me upset that they can make all of this money out of profits and we’re barely surviving,” Bravo said.

With the chant of “Walmart, Walmart you’re no good. Treat your workers like you should,” Bravo and the others marched through the stores with signs for about 10 minutes.

Did WMart lie to you about the pay they were offering, when you took your job?

>>Not a man with a family who is forced to get the rest of his needed income from the gov’t... <<

Maybe that man should offer value to an employer. Or, in your world, we just give him a job because... um, why do we give him a job again? And who gives it?

Rationing of basic food stuffs didn't end in the UK until 1954. Vast portions of the housing stock weren't rebuilt until the 60's.

And the UK war-debt was only paid off in 2006.

“Michael Moore: please explain to the thread what leverage those evil corporations do, in fact, have against unions?”

Riight. Because corporations have no negotiating power, no access to attorneys that specialize in “busting” unions, and no access to scabs (something Hostess could have done) in case of a strike. All they can do is bend over an bite the pillow. Okay.

” You would wall up capital so that it couldn’t move out of the country and also force Americans to buy protected, Government-approved brands”

Riight again. Because the Zenith TVs, Philco radios and Chevrolet Bel Airs (all US made) that our forebears purchased were approved by some faceless commisar? Okay, again.

“Zimbabwe”? Great strawman. A nation with no infrastructure, no tradition of entrepeneurship (except for the white settlers who mostly left), no business or engineering schools and no industrial base. Yeah, riight again.

The man being forced to get the rest of his income from the government has many more problems than working at Walmart. Walmart is not meant to be a career. It is a temporary stopping point, either as beginning job or to help until someone can get on their feet with a better job. And, my son is making more working at Walmart than I did 10 years ago as a single mom supporting two kids. I could do it, so this theoretical man can do it.

“Like I said — Realism is a fundamental Conservative value.”

Funny you say that, considering you’re suffering from serious cranial-rectal inversion, and think everything smells just fine.

Goodbye.

So as a society we should idle the left side of the bell curve and let them live a subsidized life style, similar to the way we treat livestock, to have pristine air and water? Offshoring is playing into the lefts hands. They get rid of those smelly factories and layed off workers become democrats. It is a win-win for them thanks to the Free Traitors.

So true...The Democratic gov't wants total control over the people...What better way than to have the people depend on the gov't for their survival...

Do these one-World globalists think we will ever have another conservative Republican president??? They're foolish if they do...

But then we have the globalists who couldn't care less what happens to this country as long as the cash keeps rolling in...

I’m pretty sure I read that these ‘strikers’ are thugs for hire by the unions, making trouble for Wal-Mart because they will not unionize?

Your ignorance is showing again. Before the government change-over Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of Africa.

But good to see you admit again you believe in top-down economy with the government in charge.

You need to stop showing your vast ignorance. Your childish and erroneous opinions of How Things Work are really embarrassing you.

And neither of those things had anything to do with World War 2. The German blitz was a pinprick compared to the carpet bombings of Germany and Japan,

Dear Lord, you don’t know the history of Zimbabwe.

Hint: it was once called Rhodesia, and was known as “The Breadbasket of Africa”.

Don’t you know we should go back to the 1950’s and 1960s? The good old days. Them darkies knew their place. Them Pat Boone and Elivs, what a degenerate bunch of characters. And we didn’t have many of them thar hippies. No wasting time on this internet thingy.

You have anything else to add to the conversation besides condescension and insults???

First of all, there were many, many workers in the ‘50s who couldn’t afford to support a family, buy a home, and put kids through college on an unskilled laborer’s salary.

Sure, there were some union jobs paying above and beyond, but where did that wacky system get us?

If someone wanted to go back to the gadget-free, 1000 sq ft home without air conditioning and with one car, etc., he or she could probably do that now fairly easily. And junior can work his own way through community college on up.

But middle America couldn’t afford vacations to Europe and elsewhere, as are common now, or many, many other consumer items that people apparently value.

You were talking pure economics, and the pure economics of today versus three generations ago is that we’ve got a lot more now, with people living far better, on the whole, than they did 60 years ago. You want to go back to the medicine of the ‘50s too? People have it far better now, and a good chunk of that is due to globalization.

And these days, where would that hypothetical better job be?

If you can’t see the underlying point then I can;t really help you.

Still waiting to see if you know what killed Hostess and how it affects your insular view of the world.

Also waiting for your answer to how to combat the global economy.

(I won’t hold my breath)

Once upon a time, someone with limited skills and education could get a decent manufacturing job with good pay and bennies. Alas, most of those jobs are gone from the Fruited Plain (thanks to offshoring and “free trade” agreements)

No, it's thanks to unions, trial lawyers, the EPA, OSHA, and a few million other people that made it impossible to operate in the US. Blame the right people.

And growing lots and lots of food has what exactly to do with industrial jobs? And the United States is still the WORLD’s breadbasket. You don’t know much about our agricultural sector, do you?

That’s right. Minimum wage is for kids. A man ought to find a way to contribute to our economy at a higher level if he’s going to take a higher level of return out of it—such as to support a family.

A nation of unskilled lumps, sitting around, wanting to be bag boys at the supermarket is going to earn a standard of living about the level of that in Egypt or Peru.

The only thing worse than an ignorant person is an ignorant person with a loud and strong opinion on the topic in which he/she is most ignorant.

We must show patience in the hopes of educating these people but it looks pointless at this moment.

No, see, its the other way around.

Try to understand. You're so close.

It's because the Zenith TVs, Philco radios and Chevrolet Bel Airs (all US made) WERE NOT approved by some faceless commissar that they were so successful.

These quality US brands were made by free men, working for their own profit and not burdened by the crushing hand of socialism.

Put the clock forward by 60 years and - lo - US industry has been driven out from America as if by an Angel with a flaming sword.
