CNSNews.com) - The federal government has now borrowed more money during Barack Obama’s time as president than it did in the period lasting from the time President George Washington took the oath office until July 2, 2001, more than five months into the first term of President George W. Bush.

At the close of business on Jan. 20, 2009, when President Barack Obama was inaugurated, the national debt stood at $10,626,877,048,913.08, according to the Treasury. At the close of business this Thursday, it stood at $16,323,083,449,604.98.

That means the debt has increased $5,696,206,400,691.90 during Obama’s presidency.

On July 2, 2001, more than five months after President George W. Bush entered office, the national debt was $5,693,220,327,798.14, according to the Treasury. By the close of business on July 3, 2001, it had risen to 5,698,195,769,465.40. Since then, the debt has never again dropped below $5,696,206,400,691.90—the amount it has increased in less than one full term of Obama.

(Between late 1999 and the middle of 2001, as federal revenues sometimes exceeded expenditures, the debt fluctuated back and forth over the $5.696 trillion mark--only to finally pass that threshold, without retrenching, between July 2 and 3, 2001.)

Only around a third of all Americans bothered to vote.

Not really.

US population: 314M. Eligible voters: 207M.

Number who voted: 125M. That number may go up a little as states certify the vote totals.

125M is 40% of 314M, but 61% of 207M.

Number of registered voters is considerably lower than 207M, but I couldn't find a number.

Stats were acquired from several sources, and may not all apply to the same year, but are likely to not be too far off.

Polls over the last decade have routinely shown that those who are eligible but don't bother to register or vote usually favor the Democrat by more than 2:1 over the Republican.

Comparing a dollar amount in one year with a dollar amount in another year is an invalid comparison. Dollars have to be adjusted for loss of value from one year to another, or the comparison is meaningless.

As I understand it, GWB doubled the debt in eight years, and BHO increased it in his first term by as much as GWB did in both terms.

Bush's debt was largely a result of 9-11, of which this failure to act may have played a large part.

In spite of that, in January 2007 which was the last time we had a GOP President and Congress, the deficit was about 165 billion and shrinking. That was when the Dem controlled Congress replaced the GOP controlled Congress. How have things gone since?

I still suspect that the key to controlling Obozo's power mania is the Borrowing Limit. Without that stash he is powerless, Let's face it, between them, the Democrats and the MSM have painted the GOP as the ultimate evil. What has the GOP got to lose?

Just stop the borrowing and freeze Obozo in his tracks. What will be the reaction of his supporters be when Santa's bag of goodies turns out to be empty? Ayn Rand had it right all along - just call their bluff.

I don’t hate GWB, but he is certainly no conservative. He’s far better than Obama, but that doesn’t say much.

As an aside, I think amnesty will get passed and here comes our bilingual nominee Jeb.

Who has been elected to watch the store? Let’s call for the GOP’s impeachment for dereliction of duties.

And what, exactly, do we have to show for it?

NOTHING...except a permanent underclass addicted to their government “entitlements” which will always vote “D” to keep the goodies flowing and the “D”s in power. That our “leaders” would intentionally bankrupt and ruin our nation is the worst moral failing in world history.

There can be no other explanation but this is Obama’s design and plan. He wants his legacy to be the destruction of America.

Obama has spent more money than any other Human in history and he has nothing to show for it.

Maybe someone can 'do the math' and explain how much money - if equally divided that would be for each 'family of four' in the United States ... Cash from the last 4 years of spending - divided...

This is what Obama "inherited" from Bush

Considering that then Senator Obama was among those who blocked GOP efforts to reign in FM&FM, it could be said that President Obama inherited the housing mess from Senator Obama.
