Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government is its final stages and will be unable to survive as more parts of the country slip from his control, the head of Germany's foreign intelligence agency (BND) said.
"Armed rebels are co-ordinating better, which is making their fight against Assad more effective," Gerhard Schindler told the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung newspaper, in an interview made public on Saturday.
"Assad's regime will not survive."
Rebels fighting to topple Assad declared Damascus International Airport a battle zone on Friday, while Moscow and Washington both sounded downbeat about the prospects of a diplomatic push to end the conflict after talks.
Fighting around the capital city has intensified over the past week, and Western officials have begun speaking about faster change on the ground in a 20-month-old conflict that has killed 40,000 people.
"Evidence is mounting that the regime in Damascus is now in its final phase," Schindler said.

It’s funny, when folks talk about the items to take back in time to win a battle, they often talk about bigger guns, or air power. In reality the single thing that could change the course of a war is better means of communication.
It’s not bigger and badder guns....it’s coordination.
A lesson to be learned here.

What would a negotiated end look like? Everything would go back to the way it was with Assad able to move around killing the now former rebels with impunity. The only ones who would want a negotiated settlement would be the ones who are losing. They would use the time to fix their problems and then resume the killing.
Washington, Moscow, sometimes you just have to let the patient heal himself.
If you are one little group in one town of 20k fighting the regime...there is a pessimistic view of what you might be able to accomplish. But the minute that you hear via communications that another small group had a major victory in another town, and the next day...hear of another small group taking down a helicopter...then your focus becomes clear and more dedicated.
This is one of the things that coordination and communication gives a small fighting force. You don’t need major victories on the field or major campaigns.
Looks like the the Arab countries that didn’t line up with OBL and support al-Qaeda at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom have experienced coups. The world is sure in a pickle thanks to these Arabs and their concession of fossil fuels.
Thanks to the dependance on enemy oil the US is a hostage and used as a military puppet to maintain the status-quo for the Mideast oil rich oil nations.
It’s either that or say good by to the acceptance of the petro-dollar and life as we know it. Cue up the Doors ‘this is the end’ we have entered the time of wars without end.
It is surprising that Assad has survived so far considering
the pain and evil he has inflicted on so many Syrian citizens.
Negotations never end a war. Look at Korea and Isreal. Defeat, of one side or the other, is the only way to end a war.
Yes it will be better when Assad is gone.

Translation....... Professional military officers/noncoms from the GCC/Turkey are leading the rebel units. The special forces trained by US Special forces to lead and take adhoc rebel forces into battle are making headway
And after the freedom-loving and democracy-liking rebels when, the Alawites, Christians, and other minorities in Syria will be massacred; and then the Muslim Brotherhood will take over.
A real improvement there (sarc/off)
