Speaker John Boehner has proposed allowing tax rates to rise for the wealthiest Americans if President Barack Obama agrees to major entitlement cuts, according to several sources close to the talks.

It is the first time Boehner has offered any boost in marginal tax rates for any income group, and it would represent a major concession for the Ohio Republican. Boehner suggested hiking the Bush-era tax rates for top wage earners, including those with annual incomes of $1 million or more annually, beginning Jan. 1, two sources said.

The rates go up on no one if the house doesnt approve of it. We hold all the power, yet we allow the media and the president to act like the dems hold it.

One party states never go in a good direction.

We deserve to have an Opposition Party, but we don't have one.

I would rather have them go up on the people who pay nothing now.

Wow, for entitlement cuts, let me guess, 10 years from now.
Those taxes go up automatically with the others. But Bohner is offering them to O?

Let me guess: Spend now, Cut our benefits later.

They are going up for the 250K crowd too or that is at least how I read it.

Rates go up slightly on incomes over $1M. <

When the he!! are the rates going to go up on the freeloading 47% that aren't paying any federal income tax at all?????

Enough of this redistribution BS already. The democRAT base needs to have some skin in the game for a change. They can vote, but they vote on how to spend Other people's money. I'm that "other people".

GOP has lost the debate on rates for the very rich. Line is going to be drawn somewhere. If we go over the cliff with them refusing to budge on upper income rates, we will lose everything else, also. Discretion. Fight another day over that.

One would think that Boehner would at least wait for the $100 billion in spending cuts that was promised in exchange for his last cave - the $2.5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling. Yet here we are 16 months later, and we still haven't seen a single dollar of spending reduction.

I would hope that Boehner would have the good sense to refrain from raising the debt ceiling again, considering how badly we were screwed the last time. Unfortunately, I sense that Boehner has already sold us out. Once Obamacare kicks in, we should expect a US debt of $24 trillion by the time Obama leaves office.

Rates are going up on someone. There’s no way to avoid it.

How about defunding the tax payer paid Obomaphones? The free tax payer paid high speed Internet? How about cutting back on the food stamp lobster tails and Delmonico steaks?
Why not encourage the freeloaders to get their own jobs by offering them only what they NEED to survive? A small roof over their head, thrift store clothing on their backs, and canned goods? If they WANT more than that, they can get their own frigging jobs! Does anyone here think a welfare slug is worth $40K-$60K a year for doing.......nothing at all (for anyone - not even themselves?)?

The working class shouldn't have 50% of their wages stolen by some tax or government free before they even get them so some freeloader can live a comfortable, labor free lifestyle.

No man should be used as another mans slave. Cut off the freeloaders. When they get WANTING enough, they'll find some type work to do.

The GOP did not loose the debate ... as usual, they never showed up. Like the Wizard of Oz - “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” Our politicians have sold out, they will rattle their sabers and talk smack but have no heart to do and act in what is best for the people.

As for an ‘Opposition Party’, ain’t gonna happen. Enough of America isn’t mad enough yet. Too many still can’t see for all the ‘smoke and mirrors’. They will not see that their elected official sold them out for the next ‘bene’ they’ll get for caving like they always do.

Why should “millionaires” be forced into subsidizing the ‘RATS’ nanny state? Let the ‘RAT voters do it. If you’re a registered DemocRAT, your tax rate is doubled. If you work in Hollywood and are a celebrity activist, it triples. Problem solved.

They havent lost the debate among freepers, nor with any other conservative that I know. The media wants you to think that the GOP will get slaughtered in midterms if they dont “compromise”. Thats a huge load of crap.. they will get slaughtered if they continue to cave....

Here's the thing. Nothing Boehner "negotiates" happens without Republican votes. If the nation gets sold out, it will be by Republicans, not just Boehner. Boehner can't do anything by himself.

Haha - yeah, they should pay their “fair share”.

Throw it right back at the dems.

Actually, there IS no way to avoid it. If nothing happens, tax rates go up automatically. The only way for tax rates to NOT go up is for Obama to sign legislation that keeps rates where they are. That will never happen.

You can scream at Boehner all you want, but rates WILL go up. Nothing the Republicans can do will change that.

And the reason we lose everything else is the Grand Bargain Bonehead
forced on the GOP. You do remember that debt ceiling deal Bonehead
did two years ago don’t you.
If the GOP hates that deal now, why did they pass it two years ago.
You are in some serious denial.
For those that think like you, it’s always live to fight another day mentality.
Never the time to draw the line in the sand.
If u knew enough, u would know this Tax Increase on the rich, will not do
squat to solve the debt issue. But apparently u don’t.

.. they will get slaughtered if they continue to cave....

That's why they lost the 2012 presidential elections. Romney talked about those WITHOUT jobs, but offered nothing to those who still have them and pay, pay, pay. That's why very few people bother to vote at all. The tax payers had no one to vote FOR. They know they're going to get even more enslaved no matter who wins. They always do.
A few came out to vote AGAINST Oboma, not not enough. The Social parasites, on the other hand, had visions of everyone elses dollars dancing around in their heads. They couldn't get to the booths fast enough.
