NRA’s Social Media Strategy: Go Dark
National Journal ^ | Tuesday, December 18, 2012 | Elahe Izadi

When a mass shooting occurs, the National Rifle Association’s communications shop typically goes dark, particularly its highly visible social media channels. That has certainly been the case post-Newtown. The organization’s Facebook page, with its more than 1.7 million likes, has been hidden with users being redirected to Facebook’s homepage. Its Twitter account, with more than 65,000 followers, has been silent since Friday as well.

As a behemoth powerhouse in politics, the NRA is also highly active on social media channels. To put it into perspective, Republican communications consultant Michael Turk points out that the NRA’s page surpasses the RNC’s Facebook page, which has 1.1 million likes. The gun group’s Facebook presence also certainly eclipses the anti-gun lobby Brady Campaign, which has 42,000 likes.

I'd prefer they post reminders the 2A is not about hunting and skeet, but that being said, it's better than saying they need to “exploit” the tragedy and better than threatening to kill those who disagree with them like the insane rat posse is doing.

The media is piling on the NRA.

No surprise there.

From CBS just posted here.....

NRA promises "meaningful contributions" to avert another Newtown (NRA Caves?)

In its first comment following the horrific shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the National Rifle Association today said it is "prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again." The NRA went silent in the wake of the tragedy last Friday: The gun-rights group's Facebook page disappeared, it stopped sending out tweets, and it told reporters that "[u]ntil the facts are thoroughly known, NRA will not have any comment." On Tuesday, the group said it would hold a "major news conference" on Friday, December 21 in the Washington D.C., area to further explain its position. It did...

Repeating the NRA position for emphasis....

"[u]ntil the facts are thoroughly known, NRA will not have any comment."

How dare they (sarcasm here)? They should - like liberals - blather on and on about "facts" as they know them.

Leave it to Breitbart to correctly assess the NRA situation.

NRA Releases Statement, Shows More Class than Media

Waiting () was both the humane thing for the NRA to do and the smart thing tactically. By waiting until today, the NRA now knows what the media's tactics are; and by waiting a few days after making this announcement to hold the actual presser, they will have an idea of how our unbiased, objective, open-minded, impartial, non-ideological media intends to absolutely crush and destroy them. What the NRA now has is the time needed to formulate arguments and to put forward that which our craven, opportunistic media has not -- a serious, pro-active plan to ensure Sandy Hook can’t...

Dear Libtard idiots,
Would you put a sign in front yard saying “we have no ability to defend ourselves in this house” ?

That is the exact same thing as putting up a sign saying “gun-free zone”

The only people “gun-free” are the law abiding citizens inside the area, not any criminals looking for an easy target.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Do you think the shooter looked at the sign and said “oh, darn- I cant go in here and murder people...” (apparently not) or thought “aha- here is a bunch of people who cant shoot back at me”

Evidently it’s the MSM that’s in the dark about what’s really going on.

Thank goodness congress is leaving for their Christmas break soon and I believe that Obama is going to Hawaii for that long deserved vacation. Let’s hope the fawning media follows him out there. “Oh, look there goes Obama in speedos! Sigh.”
