Down to -50C: Russians freeze to death as strongest-in-decades winter hits
rt.com ^ | 19 December, 2012 | RIA Novosti / Yakov Andreev

Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized. The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia. Across the country, 45 people have died due to the cold, and 266 have been taken to hospitals. In total, 542 people were injured due to the freezing temperatures, RIA Novosti reported. The Moscow region saw temperatures of -17 to -18 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and the record cold temperatures are expected to linger for at least three more days. Thermometers in Siberia touched -50 degrees Celsius, which is also abnormal for December.

Exactly. There was a story here a few days ago about people in San Diego turning in their guns for something to eat. As long as I have a gun, I'll never go hungry. Geeesh.

If the global warming deniers wouldn’t be so heard headed, and accepted the junk science, those people wouldn’t be freezing to death or getting injured that the record cold weather.

Cold weather is an anomaly, while warm weather is an indication of the steady increase of global warming. ;)

I tend to believe Russians over libtards

Is there a difference?

Although it is pretty sad that RUSSIANS can no longer handle cold! Gezz. Maybe their subjects were starting to believe Algore and didn’t prepare for the Russian winter? Or maybe it was a Putin plot to thin the herd by cutting off fuel supplies and winter clothing?

What is next, Eskimos that can’t tolerate cold temps? Iraqis getting heat stroke? Maybe the world really is falling apart.

Why?

They curse us for it.

But, don't worry, Omega is helping them take revenge for our cruelty.

I love AZ...from now until about April it’s paradise. And then the 130 deg comes....

I am in Eastern NM. A couple of years ago, we had -12 degrees for a week. Then it went to 112 degrees 90 days later. That's quite a swing. Adding to the problem is no moisture at all for the past 5 years and strong winds every day from one direction or another.

I often wonder why I put up with that.

I don’t believe in the whole global warming scam but I do remember reading stories about how the north pole was moving towards Siberia at about 40 miles a year. I would assume the south pole is moving as well. It might explain why it appears the ice at the original poles are melting and why Russia and Europe are freezing in the winter and why the U.S. seems warmer. Pole shift.

Have you read the Martin Cruse Smith ‘Arkady Renko’ series? ‘Gorky Park’ and ‘Polar Star’ through ‘Dogs Eat Wolves’ is VERY good in terms of showing the underbelly of Russia/Communism.

Yes, they’re NOVELS, but he puts in a lot of research. He also trashes Cuba.

I LOVE Martin Cruse Smith! :)

I read “Gorky Park”. Never have found the other two books. I also recently found the DVD of “Gorky Park”. Love the movie too.

I walked 15 blocks to work in -25 in Chicago in the early 90’s for several days two winters in a row. My sister in northern Iowa woke up to -35 a few years ago on a work day.

19 degrees when I got up this morning and 30 degrees now. Pretty standard for this time of year.

Do you remember when it was -20 sometime in the 70's? I went outside to feed the birds and could not believe how that felt. I don't care if it gets that cold in Michigan ever again.

That’s just the magnetic pole, not the polar axis of spin.

OTOH, there is a small shift over time in the axial tilt, though that amounts of only +/- a degree or so:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axial_tilt
“For the past 5 million years, Earth’s obliquity has varied between 22° 02’ 33” and 24° 30’ 16”, with a mean period of 41,040 years.”
