Thousands Rally Against Gun Violence In Copley Square

BOSTON (CBS) – Some 1,000 United Synagogue Youth students turned out in Copley Square Wednesday to advocate against gun violence.

The students joined religious and local leaders and Colin Goddard, an advocate for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007.

“The issue of gun violence touches every community our USYers come from and our teens are ready to raise their voices and make a difference,” said Rabbi David Levy, director of teen learning for USCJ. “Our kids are telling us adults, ‘We want to feel safe,’ and we need to listen.’”

The rally’s name “The Praying with Our Feet: Rally Against Gun Violence” was a nod to Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel’s iconic phrase that he was “praying with his feet” when he marched in Selma, Ala. with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965.

Colin Goddard of the Brady Campaign was shot four times during the Virginia Tech shooting and survived. Goddard dialed 911 during the shooting and is credited for the fast arrival of the police.

After the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut last week and another shooting in Webster, New York this week, advocates for the group say things need to change.

“It is unconscionable that — with the escalation of gun violence in our nation –there has been no real progress on the federal level,” said Rabbi Wernick. “It is time to force the hand of Congress to confront the National Rifle Association and their supporters. The massacre in Newtown, CT wounded the very soul of America. I am touched as a parent as well as a rabbi. The time has come to act.”

Anti-gun violence rally held at Copley Square - December 26, 2012 - State Representative David P. Linsky, a Democrat from Natick, urged the students to call their elected officials. “You cannot be complacent, make a promise to me...because you outnumber the members of the NRA,” he said.

“There are too many guns on the streets, too many guns in homes. Does anybody really need the type of weapon that can wipe out a first-grade class in a matter of two minutes, do we really need that?” he asked the crowd, which responded with a collective shout of “no.”

I hope most patriots are prepared to defend their 2nd Amendment rights with extreme violence if necessary. The left is pushing hard at this time, and although they may not be successful at this time, they will never quit.

I personally consider all of these traitors “domestic enemies”.

So I guess they have no problems with people being stabbed or beaten.

If CBS says 1000, figure it was 100. Unless it was a Tea Party event, then figure 10,000.

Typical crap here in Arseachusetts. These are the kind of people that should never own a weapon, never mind a gun.

I think the holidaze will soften this and the left have over played their hand but then again I predicted Romney would win.

What on G-d's Earth does that MEAN Rabbi!?

That the NRA shot those kids? That they are responsible?

It is your idiotic enabling that has brought us to this deplorable situation!

They always bully children by making them promise to behave in a certain way without fully explaining the issues. If they want to do something constructive for the United Synagogue Youth, they should take them to the firing ranges and teach them how to shoot.

Another neutral organization coopted by the radical left. What a shame.

USCJ is not hardly any better than reform atheists. They lean much farther left than Orthodox and their numbers are dwindling as many go over to reform which is much easier in its nonadherance to REAL Judaism.
Their ‘movement’ is mostly coopting Jewish children and training them from childhood, brainwashing them into a belief system that has no real belief...but changes as the wind blows.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Judaism

Another schism in the Conservative ranks, this time from the movement’s right wing, would come when a number of the traditionalist Rabbis led by JTS Talmudics professor David Weiss Halivni split from the United Synagogue to form the Union for Traditional Judaism. The dissenters were discontented with the general LEFTWARD trend in USCJ policies over the previous decades, such as “prayer book revision, egalitarianism, redefining halakhic boundaries of sexual relationships, and advocacy of Israel accepting conversions that are non-halakhic even by Conservative standards”., and the Union suggests that “The Conservative Movement thus appears to endorse the notion that changing societal norms can supersede the proper application of halakhic sources”. The Union today describes itself as “trans-denominational” and maintains a Rabbinical seminary, the Institute of Traditional Judaism.

Easy Jews.

Does anyone else here see the irony of Jews demonstrating for firearms confiscation? Did none of these “youth” ever talk with their grandparents and great-grandparents?

Rabbi Wernick is the kind of Jewish leader who would have been perfect in Nazi Germany, telling the people (like many rabbis did), that since they were good Germans, nobody was going to hurt them.

I’d like this bastard to look me in the face and tell me that this kind of advise is sane, and then I’ll tell him that my whole European family was shot, gassed or otherwise executed in Lemberg, Belzec and Auschwitz.

We have a word for people like Wernick, besides Putz. It is KAPO.

Unarmed Jews have been killed all over America by knives and guns and rifles and bombs. Armed Jews have not. Rabbi Meir Kahane, an acquaintance of mine, was stabbed to death by an Al Qaeda operative. A woman in a Jewish organization in Seattle was shot to death as was a Jewish worker at LAX.

Violence against Jews in America went down when the Jewish Defense League was formed by Kahane. Black attacks on Jews in New York City slowed a lot. I wonder why.

There are some of us Jewish Americans who are not stupid. We know who the enemy is and are determined to stop them dead, if necessary, and are prepared to do so. There are a lot of Jewish veterans of Vietnam, Gulf War I and OIF/Afghanistan who are not standing by unarmed and with our heads buried in the sand. That includes members of my family and our Vietnam veterans groups.

Wernick is symptomatic of the cowardice that is liberalism and it has badly infected our synagogues to the point that there is a major split in opinion out there on guns, Obama, national defense, etc.

In the end, the innocent pay the price for unpreparedness.

I once asked my father-in-law where he was on Dec. 7, 1941, and he said ‘getting bombed at Schofield Barracks’. We were unprepared and thousands died needlessly.

NEVER AGAIN!

Back in the 1970s when I was a UAW goonion official one of the many things that struck me in a negative way and ultimately helped push me back to the right side was the racism expressed by africanhyphenamericans toward Jews. There were Jews significantly instrumental in the formation of the UAW, who were every bit as red as could be desired, that was common knowledge, and made no difference to the ahyphenas. The ahyphenas (not all, but quite a few) felt comfortable expressing their hatred for Jews in front of the white “brothers” and “sisters” as if we would all understand and accept that hatred. One could never, of course, express one’s disenchantment with negative behavior of individual africanhyphenamericans at risk of being beaten down with a large crate of race cards.

It’s perplexing. I’ll never understand it. Maybe Dennis Prager could explain the oxymoronic nature of it.

To me, that is one of the most perplexing things...the jewish community’s seemingly overwhelming support for leftists, including anti-jewish leftists.

It is very strange to me.

BWAHAAAAA!!! "Fast arrival"? So they could cower behind trees while dozens were slaughtered on the "gun-free campus"?

Goddard should be ashamed of himself. His classmates with butchered because they were DISarmed - thanks to that evil creature Sarah Brady that he now pimps for!
