On the One Hand…
These should not be foreboding years. The U.S. is in the midst of a veritable energy revolution. There is a godsend of new gas and oil discoveries that will help to curtail our fiscal and foreign policy vulnerabilities — an energy bonanza despite, not because of, the present administration.
Demographically, our rivals — the EU, China, Russia, and Japan — are both shrinking and aging at rates far in excess of our own.
In terms of farming, the United States is exporting more produce than ever before at record prices. Americans eat the safest and cheapest food on the planet.
As far as high-tech gadgetry, the global companies that have most changed the world in recent years — Amazon’s online buying, Google search engines, Apple iPhones, iPads, and Mac laptops — are mostly American. There is a reason why Mexican nationals are not crossing their border into Guatemala — and it is not because they prefer English speakers to Spanish speakers.
Militarily, the United States is light years ahead of its rivals. And so on…

It always cracks me up when I get to see a VDH post. He’s way ahead of the curve and I believe I was suspended for a time when I first joined FR for using him as a source. The times, they are a changin’.

While reading, a thought struck me. (I immediately hit it back and wrestled it into submission.)
An old saw is that, “The perfect is the enemy of the good.”
Seems to me in our present fix this should be updated to, “The perfect is the most deadly enemy of the good.”
America today provides objectively greater prosperity and freedom to a larger part of its population than any nation before.
It is admittedly not perfect. Therefore it must be fundamentally changed in the ways VDH describes to make it more perfect. Since perfection can never be achieved by humans, the fundamental changes must continue forever. The likely, indeed certain, result is that such changes will eventually result in the collapse of the system that was pretty darn good, and its replacement by a system with greatly reduced prosperity and freedom.
VDH was on John Batchelor the Friday after the election and he speculated that due to the “second term” curse, Obama might not make it to 2017 in office. He thought that some sort scandal would force him from office.
IMHO, the Left now believes (thanks to their sycophants and allies in Silicon Valley) that modern computer technology will now allow them to centrally manage an economy (a task that has never been successfully done before).
It is the inevitable result of man becoming his own god....after ignoring the wisdom of our Creator.
VDH nails it. I would simply point out that those in power care not a fig as to whether communism “works”. I presume that they are smart enough to know that it does not. For them all that matters is power, the pursuit of same and the exercise of same.
For the useful idiots on the sidelines cheering them on - they have been manipulated by the media to think that “sticking it to the man” is going to benefit them in the long run. They are sadly mistaken.
I believe there HAVE been scandals....and all are ignored or covered up. I do not think that any “scandal” will force this man from office.
It’s pretty scary — depending on how seriously you take the public musings of koo-koo leftist law professors.

As for scandals, all the ones we know, and all the ones we’ve seen blithely papered over and ignored since 2007 -—once more and more people get hurt in ways new and unprecedented,
once they finally HAVE to acknowledge that this Obama Experiment DID NOT WORK FOR THEM, only then will the original scandals, AND THEN SOME, get reawakened, and finally get seen in a new light. It won’t be theoretical any more. The essemtial thing is to keep the pressure up, and I’ve FINALLY been hearing this new ethos or playing hardball as hard as the Dems play it in the past week!!
It IS quite chilling. When even VDH sees this in our future, it is indeed frightening what might lie ahead.
That is where we are headed.
That is quite a "trade" for a once prosperous and free Constitutional Republic that was the envy of the world.
That is the absolute truth. He could do nothing worse than what he’s done.

The only scandal that could damage Obama among his constituency is incontrovertible proof he has been having conventional heterosexual relations with his wife.
If there was photographic evidence of Obama humping a goat while holding a bloody wriggling human fetus in a set of forceps, he could have it made into a Christmas card sent to every liberal pundit, journalist and politician. He would be hailed as a socialist savior removing the oppressive stigmas and prejudices conservative barbarians exert against goat-humping abortionists everywhere.
