Adam Lanza wore earplugs, rapidly changed clips, shot up cars in parking lot: report
NY Daily News ^ | 1/7/13 | PHILIP CAULFIELD

Investigators puzzled by why Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza wore earplugs during the massacre if he knew he was going to kill himself. Separately, evidence shows Lanza reloaded his weapon before the magazines were spent, leading to questions about whether he was influenced by the first-person shooter games he spent hours playing.

Gunfire is not that loud for cripes sake!

What? I can't hear you.

Jet engines and firearms means that I don't get to hear some of my grandchildren. Shooting inside a closed room is hearing ruining.

You’d think that by now the journalism “schools” would offer Gun Terminology 101 as a freshman core class these days. Drives me crazy too.

If Lanza really was on the autistic spectrum, then his violent outburst could just have been the result of his neurology.

In certain cases, Austistic people can have explosive rage like that, although it’s not the norm, and typically doesn’t result in incidents this atrocious.

I know a lot of people here are beating the drum about adverse reactions in SSRIs, but this may be a more likely factor.

I never had burning from firing a weapon. The times I got caught off guard and had a 155mm shoot before I could get my ears protected I hand ringing, but never burning.

The only thing I could think of, was you held it too close to your crotch.

Try adjusting the elevation.

I dunno, I am trying to help.

“Yeah, let’s ignore the whole mental illness thing, and focus on demonizing video games.”

You notice how the whole mental illness issue has dropped by the wayside and now its wall to wall gun control hyperbole.

This is because it is being used as a vehicle to further that agenda never mind solving anything.

I heard an idiot the other day saying that we don’t want to stigmatize mentally ill people as a result of this. But its OK to stigmatize millions of law abiding gun owners to further a political agenda.

Phony sons of bitches, all of them.

Man, it is inside a building. Go to your outdoor shed and shoot an AR-15 thru the open door toward someplace safe in your back yard. BOOM!! Your ears will ring for 5 minutes.

Only an idiot who knew NOTHING about guns could be surprised that he wore earplugs, or that he often changed mags.

1. gunfire is loud

2. gunfire in a classroom is MUCH louder

3. swapping a mag before it’s dry is a little faster than one that’s totally empty

Imagine your job was to write about cars, after an extremely important car event. But you didn’t understand why drivers inside wore gloves. Or that they had to use KEYS. And you WROTE that in your car article.

THAT is how stupid this gun writer is.

But since they’re liberal, they’re SMART.

See?

Changed 30 rd. mags before empty? Some were half full?If that is the case it shows that a ban on High Cap Mags is senseless.

Not just ear ringing, it’s like getting whomped upside the head to me. This guy’s obviously either a super badass or deaf.

They are trying to find rational explanations for irrational actions and behavior.

They won’t.

“I was Field Artillery. Gunfire is not that loud for cripes sake!”

I was Armor....and I spent 18 months with the 4.2” mortars. I also fire the self propelled Howitzers a time or two.

They are all loud...and your location relative to the gun orientation made a huge difference.

But...if you have ever fired a rifle indoors (not in a sound deadened indoor range or metal building....but inside a masonary building like this school), you will appreciate the painful ‘crack’ that it makes. Its painful, and differs fom the low boom of artillery.

"...even if you’re not quite out, so you don’t get caught reloading during a gunfight."

Often called a tactical reload

why would MOM think someone with a mental illness should be playing those games when those are the people who would be influenced the most?

Austics often have severe problems with loud noises.

1) What is Austics?

2) Assuming you meant Autistic, where is the evidence that Adam Lanza had Autism (or Asperger's Syndrome)? 3) I work with Autistic children, and am not appreciative of those who are attempting to equate Autism with violent behaviors such as what Adam Lanza did.

Austistics often have severe problems with loud noises.

Even soft noises.

I recently got rid of a roommate who I suspected had Asperger's -- something neurological (her mother was schizophrenic). She had severe sensory issues. She bought tons of rugs for everyone to tiptoe around on and even wrapped the bathroom hook lock in tape because it made too much noise when inserted into the loop.

Other things she did? Hoard food (e.g. several jars of mayonnaise and cartons of eggs, all past their expiration date). Totally paranoid -- would barricade her door whenever a guest stayed over. She put a slip of paper at the top to see if someone had entered her room (slip would fall out).

Can anyone guess why I wanted her out?

I read the bio of the retarded Mr. Caulfied, who does not understand why a man shooting indoors wore ear-plugs.

He went to a really bad journalism school, right?

Wrong:

He went to the Columbia School of Journalism —the very best one.
