Statement From the National Rifle Association of America Regarding Today's White House Task Force Meeting

Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and what does not.

-NRA-
Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Four million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services. Be sure to follow the NRA on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NationalRifleAssociation and on Twitter @NRA.

“...out of shape and overweight from riding around in cars all day instead of walking a beat.”

You’ve just describe civilian law enforcement today!

"Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties..."

Can someone translate this for me

Rats started running pro 2nd Amendment nominees in 2006 and 2008 for Congress.

What a country! Hundred years ago if a town bank was robbed and the bank teller was killed, men strapped on their guns, join the sheriff in a posse to catch the killers. Today, they will ban guns in town and tell the sheriff to go out on his own to catch the robbers.

I am a lifetime member who wished he wasn’t the moment they supported Harry Reid!

I will support them 100% in this fight, but lets not forget who helped up keep Dingy Harry in the Senate.

We should encourage Democrats that support the Second Amendment unless they are phonies like Reid.

Maybe the NRA should go see their buddy Harry Reid. After all, they supported him.

NRA refuses to endorse Reid or Angle in U.S. Senate race

I think your anti-gun LEO’s are likely in NYC, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, etc.

I think it probably depends on whether you are in a blue or red state too.

But somewhere I read that overall, more will not be inclined to risk their lives for the federal government......unless they are employees of the fed gov......

May be true of Federal employees, but I doubt local LEO’s will want to risk their lives confronting angry armed citizen’s in their own locale just for a paycheck and bene’s....

They would then become targets in general whenever they were on duty, wherever they were....or even in their homes...even putting their families at risk.....

It is a crime that there are 80 million gun owners in this country and only 4 million belong to the NRA. JOIN NOW!

Just send them some bux......Stay off of any lists you possibly can.

If you were a jack-booted thug, you’d best bring a company of the 82nd Airborne or a couple of platoons of a heavy mech outfit with you.

Just between you and me, I have been expecting (and preparing for) what I see now as inevitable; for the past 15 years.

My “6” as well as every other direction you can point, is well covered. If they come for me, it will cost them more that they are likely willing or prepared to pay.

I hate it for those jack-booted thugs that are on the business end of this...

None of them were drafted; they've made their choices.

The us against them mentality this administration has fostered will backfire on them. People will not tolerate unilateral demands/decisions by elected officials.

Unfortunately that is exactly the goal of the strategy. Always, always remember this "enemy" plays on never letting a crisis go to waste.

We are at a tenuous point, to not act is submission...to act is violence. History doesn't tell us how to turn back from this point, it only shows us what is ahead of us. From Mussolini to Mao to now...the future looks very bloody.

So they want everyone else to stand up and take a stand when they didn’t have the balls to do the same. F them.
