The Southern States PBA official stand on gun control in America
SSPBA ^ | 01/10/2013 | Chris Skinner

Posted on 01/11/2013 11:33:24 AM PST by Jgerald

"As president of Southern States PBA, a professional law enforcement association with over 30,000 members from federal, state, county and municipal agencies, I would like to express our support for the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution and for law abiding citizens to purchase and own firearms. From hunting to shooting sports, firearms are a part of the American culture that are passed from generation to generation. Rank and file law enforcement officers realize that gun ownership from law abiding citizens poses no threat to the law enforcement community or to the public. New legislation aimed at reducing or restricting law abiding citizens from purchasing or owning firearms will do nothing to reduce violent crime nor will it stop criminals or those who want to commit evil acts from obtaining weapons. We, as law enforcement officers, take an oath of office to enforce the laws in our communities and support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We will continue to do so. It is our hope that our leaders in Washington will look at reasonable measures to help keep guns out of the hands of the criminals and punish those more severely who are violating those laws."

Alas, Southern states have scant traction within the Empire of Salem.

” It is our hope that our leaders in Washington will look at reasonable measures to help keep guns out of the hands of the criminals and punish those more severely who are violating those laws.”

The only problem with the above statement is who the govt may consider as “criminals”.

It can be done, but best to have a holster with some retention.

Obama has already promised to speak about gun-grabbing at his inaugural speech. As interest in more gun-grabbing craters, can’t wait for Obama’s remarks.

Correct. They are useless. Several laws were broken in the Newton tragedy, for example. Not only gun laws, but laws against burglary and murder.

I see no evidence that any of those laws provided one scintilla of deterrent, but had the principal had more than fists to deal with the perpetrator, she just might have stopped him dead in his tracks.

My cousin is our county sheriff. He KNOWS this also. He has no problem with law abiding citizens. He gives out carry permits to everyone who passes the background checks and are law abiding citizens. He knows that criminals commit crimes. Not law abiding, honest, hard working citizens.

” We will continue to do so. It is our hope that our leaders in Washington will look at reasonable measures to help keep guns out of the hands of the criminals and punish those more severely who are violating those laws.”

Those last words alone condemn this organization, as either hypocritical or intelectualy weak.

If you believe in the 2nd amendment than Washington can take no action to “help keep guns out of the hands of the criminals and punish those more severely who are violating those laws.”

No law means NO law (or subsequent action) period. That means Washington cannot legitimately act to keep guns out of the hands of anyone whether they call them criminal or subjects, citizens, or widgets.

This is the exclusive domain of State & local legislator where State Constitutions permit, and a foolish one as this same organization admitted to. You can’t prevent criminals from getting their hands on guns you can only disarm their victims.

I find myself wondering Why they bother requiring theses carry permits, does the Government wish to identify any citizen honest enough to bother getting one?

After all few serous criminal will bother getting the state’s permission to carry a gun, much less a counseled one.

What possible good can come from even bothering to ask to offset the evil that is the effect of disarming & identifying the population willing to protect themselves from this same criminal threat, in respect for the laws of the State.

I don’t see any logic in the requirement for a concealed carry permit. At least none that benefits the honest citizen.

Do you think interest is cratering?

I haven’t seen evidence of that.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It is the same kind of logic that prompts someone to put a “NO FIREARMS” sign on the door of a bank...in other words the logic of a babbling fool. You are right, the kind of person we should be worried about cares absolutely nothing for permits or laws.
