Colin Powell: There’s a ‘Dark Vein of Intolerance’ in the Republican Party

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell — who split with the Republican Party to endorse President Barack Obama two times — said Sunday there are some clearly racial elements within the GOP.

“There’s also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party,” Powell said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.”

While not mentioning former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin or former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu by name, Powell referenced past comments from each about Obama as evidence of racism in the party.

“When I see a former governor say the president is ‘shuckin’ and jivin’,’ that’s a racial-era slave term,” Powell said. Palin used the term to describe Obama’s response to the attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

“When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well say that the president was ‘lazy,’” Powell continued. “He didn’t say he was slow, he was tired, he didn’t do so well, he said he was lazy. Now it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is “shiftless,” and then there’s a third word that goes along with it.”

Actually, he has a legitimate point. Colin is dark and he is intolerant. So the solution is simple Colin, leave the Republican party. Switch to the Democrat party, the party of racists. Oh, and take everyone who agree with you along. We will all be better off without such scum.

Can we excommunicate Powell from the Republican party? Folks like him reinforce the nasty branding the party has suffered. All this, imho, by design to have the party lean more towards the leftists.
Let’s start a purge of those who only criticize and tear down instead of build up.

There exists in the left a violent strain of anti-white rhetoric that eerily sounds like some of the pre-genocide rhetoric of past murderous regimes (see Matt Bracken).

Points 2 & 3 especially. We do not have a TV. Have not had for 30 years, and even when we did, it was rarely on. Raised our kids without it, and they are doing the same. Amazing that if you are not used to it, you don’t miss it!

I don’t tolerate phony “Republicans” who support Barack 0bama. Two words for the “principled” Colon Powell: “Scooter” Libby.

Yeah, Colin Powell is no Republican. Way back he already attacked Republicans. He just sounds muddled headed, somebody who has no clue or some worse.

Awesome post! This shows the battle has really not changed much. We are more out numbered now than then. American Christians have had it relatively easy during our nations history but it looks like things are about to change. It’s now our turn to demonstrate the courage of our convictions. We know who wins this war. Time to get prayed up if you aren’t already. Rev. 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” and Heb. 3:13, “But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” Matt. 5:10, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Well said. He stabbed Bush in the back with Armitage and the Plane investigation. Yet there were plenty of pictures of him being close to Bush, Cheney, Hughes. Viper, bastard.

I have seen a tiny amount of racism in the GOP - and a huge amount in the Democrat party. Almost all republicans are indifferent to skin color. They would support Sarah Palin, completely indifferent to the detail that she is in an interracial marriage. They would support Bobby Jindal without regard to his ancestry (assuming he qualifies as natural born citizen). They would be thrilled to have Thomas Sowell or Herman Cain as our president. That doesn't count as inclusive enough though because all those conservatives are genuinely deserving of a leadership position in our country.

The democrats vote primarily based on "diversity", the ability to check off boxes as "the first ____ in this position". They play the race card as a way of avoiding well-deserved blame, and they completely reject Martin Luther King's ideal of judging individuals by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Democrats disgust me for exactly the same reason that racists disgust me - and they are all too often the same people.
