Identical twins have been killed by Belgian doctors in a unique case under the country’s euthanasia laws.

The 45-year-old brothers from the Antwerp region were born deaf and sought euthanasia after finding out that they would soon go blind. They told doctors that they were unable to bear the thought of not being able to see each other again.

The twins, who have not been named but have been pictured on Belgian television, had spent their entire lives together, sharing a flat and working as cobblers.

Belgium’s Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper reported on the weekend that doctors at Brussels University Hospital in Jette “euthanized” the two men by lethal injection ...

Will the Pope say something about them getting an express ticket to Hell for this (doubtful they are off the hook just because doctors supervised) or will he just keep going on about how bad capitalism is and how great islam is?

I haven’t heard the Pope make statements like that - and he has condemned euthenasia, and spoken up for the value of life. It is hard to get the message across, in such a secular and materialistic society.

Why can’t these lazybones kill themselves, at least?

Will Catholic-bashers figure out that the Church is the only institution left standing against this sort of evil, or will they just keep making ignorant comments on message boards?

It’s a good thing Ray Charles wasn’t born in Belgium.

“Neither of the men was terminally ill or suffering extreme physical pain.”

No one is going to say it because it would be inappropriate.
But I will.

What a couple of cowardly p*ssies.

‘That’s night fair! You can’t say that!’
You’re damn right I can! Their skin wasn’t dissolving. Their bones weren’t rotting away. When things go wrong you deal with it. I woke up blind in one eye several years ago. Had to have my retina reattached. And I just had cataract surgery last week in the same eye. I’m in my lower 40’s. Doctor says I’m already starting to develop a cataract in the other eye. I would hate to go blind but I wouldn’t kill myself over it. Too much left to do. Too many people I care about. Too many people that care about me.

Sadly,my psoriasis is getting pretty bad.Under OsamaObamaCare I’m sure I won’t have any trouble finding a “doctor” to help me end it all.”Cost savings” don’t you know. And “death with dignity” as well.

that is depraved, if they want to have a suicide pact, that is one thing, they will be in hell after death. But now they are all headed for hell, I guess the doctors can ask for forgiveness, but even with repentance they may end up in hell

yes, we are reliving those preWWII days when those who were not “perfect” were euthanized.

Evil never gives up. So sad...

GERD?
With babies, GERD isn’t a disease; it’s what babies do for the first 6 months of so. Keeping the epiglottis closed so that stomach content doesn’t come up (baby spit-up) is a learned action, not one you start out with.

It would appear that these two willingly chose to end their lives in a non-violent manner and sought medical assistance to do so. Isn’t that another version of the Liberty and Freedom we laud here on FR, to pursue Life and Happiness or have the Liberty not to? Who are we to force them to live?

“Just days after the twins were killed by doctors, Belgium’s ruling Socialists tabled a legal amendment that will allow the euthanasia of children and Alzheimer’s sufferers. The controversial change will allow minors and people suffering from dementia to seek permission to die.”

OMG. Children?? Can’t people just take care of their family members? I don’t think I can even finish this thread—too painful. I can’t believe the soul-lessness that is around in the world today.

‘satan is still very strong there,’

I’m from the US, but am a missionary, just outside of Brussels, planting house churches. I’ve been lurking here forever...but this article really got me.
We know a couple who were pregnant and advised to abort, at this hospital, because of a possible abnormality. They aborted...
Belgium isn’t like it’s surrounding neighbors...you see the difference in people while just walking around. These people have been the punching bag of Europe since the time of Caesar.
I believe these issues are all just symptoms...Flanders is #1 in West Europe for suicide and #5 in Europe... Divorce rates are around 75% and alcoholism is off the charts. A significant number of people are on anti-depressants.
Oh yeah, less than 3% are practicing Catholics and less than .5% are protestant...a correlation?
So I’m not so sure the issue is Satan being strong as much as it is, disciples of Jesus Christ (in either of those camps) not ‘being’ who they’re called to be and are therefore, incredibly weak.
A significant problem too, is that the Church has failed to step in front of the mirror and let justice clean house. It was said recently that everyone in Belgium, has in one way or another, been effected by scandals in the Church.
People have committed crimes that have been covered up by Church leadership...I wouldn’t trust them either. One of the perps is living large in a protected place in West Flanders.
So I think many believe the only other decent option is ‘science.’ In schools it’s taught as the ‘only’ truthful and valid option on which to base your life. (my kids attended Flemish schools) So if science tells you you’re going blind or your baby may possibly be deformed...you trust it...more so than you can those in the Church... Sorry for being so long winded!

Happened to my best bud and his wife, docs told them their second child had downs and recommended abortion. Thank God he is a strong believer of Jesus, and said no. They had a beautiful healthy strong little girl.

This story just doesn’t seem right to me, maybe I’m just suspicious of everything these days, but it seems pretty severe to be going along then all of a sudden want to die because you might go blind.

My son & DIL were told their 4th son would possibly die (pre-birth) or be deformed. The are both very strong Catholics and decided to leave it in Gods hands. My 4 year old grandson is doing just great!!!

Your story is another one of many as to why we should just trust God, I am happy to hear good things once in a while in an otherwise depressing realm of news.
