Walmart responds to 'suspended ammo' story
World Net Daily ^ | January 14, 2013 | Chelsea Schilling

The blogosphere has exploded with outrage in response to news that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales in anticipation of the Obama administration’s gun-control recommendations to Congress – but the retail giant tells WND the reports aren’t true.

“That information is inaccurate,” said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman located at Walmart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.

WND then asked whether the retail chain is cutting back on orders of ammunition.

“No,” Hardie said. “We’re continuing to serve our customers as we have in the past.”

She said Walmart’s ammunition sales policy has not changed, even amid talk of gun-control legislation in Washington, D.C.

The uproar began when the InvestmentWatch blog posted a story headlined, “Breaking & confirmed: Walmart is not going to order any more ammo.”

CNS News cited the report, and talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh mentioned it during his Monday show.

According to the InvestmentWatch report, a man claimed to have visited his local Walmart and noticed the store was “out of almost every kind of ammo.”

Oh, and there are UFOs swooshing around up there, sez InvestmentWatch.

I don’t know how to take this article.

For the past month the Walmart here in my town (South Texas) either has a very poor inventory control or they are not restocking ammunition.

The ammunition section of the store has about 75% of the entire section empty and has not been stocked for the past month. However, they still sell guns.

FREEPERS who bashed Walmart owe them a huge apology. The internet sure does spread faulty information and it actually does hurt companies like Walmart. Well now that you heard it directly from the source, everyone should run out and buy something from Walmart this week.

Here in the greater Tampa area some Walmarts sell guns and ammo while others do not. Those that do not are generally within a legal proximity to schools, which prevent them from doing so. Those stores sell only a limited number of hunting and shooting items, because those types of items aren’t in high demand for them, because people looking for those items go to a Walmart that sells guns and ammo. After all, you don’t have to drive very far to get to another.

I currently have one Walmart about 8 miles from me, another at about 10. And two more are in the process of going up: one about 3 miles away, the other about 10 in a different direction. All if them will be super stores.

Guns and Ammo is the highest selling item in America right now. They are going off the shelves like crazy.

WALKING back the lie. I spoke with Corporate 15 minutes after the story broke. THEY DID NOT DENY IT... they said that they would forward my remarks about this “decision” to upper management. The District manger knew nothing of it... the local managers knew nothing of it... but HQ did. Walmart got caught blowing bammy again and they are in PR burn down control F’em... I am done with that obamacare promoting, chicom redistribution center. Screw Sam's Club too. I have been a member since they opened but I will never renew again. You can believe them... I'll believe what I know I heard with my own ears.

“Man I miss cheap ammo and that bacon. Two things I always picked up before I head for the hills for the weekend.”

Or to the middle east to do war with the muzzies.

For the time being Wally’s inventory seems to be in line with everyone else.

“ALKING back the lie. I spoke with Corporate 15 minutes after the story broke. THEY DID NOT DENY IT”

As we learned from the Dems attacking Bush, not denying something and confirming something are two ENTIRELY different responses:

“President Bush, did your administration leak the name of Valarie Plame to the media?”

Response from Bush: “I’ll check on that”

Headline next day: “BUSH ADMINISTRATION DOES NOT DENY LEAKING THE NAME OF VALARIE PLAME”

Story after the headline: “In a breaking scandal, the Bush Administration admits that they may have leaked Valarie Plane’s name to the media...”

BIG DIFFERENCE!!! In the corporate world, people are TRAINED to not talk in absolutes, unless the information has been pre-cleared by Legal. That was likely the case here.

The employee at a nearby Wally World said that the distributors were reluctant to take possession of ammo until they found out what Omega was going to do.

They didn't want to be stuck with inventory they couldn't sell.

The ammo shortage is too broad for a government buy up. At least that’s how it appears.

Bob, I am the man that actually called Corporate. The man on the line said he didn’t agree with the stance either... he also said he would forward my comments to upper management about this “new decision”. You believe what you want to believe... I KNOW what I heard and I know what was meant by it. Walmart has lost me forever. So has Sam’s club. I spent 10’s of thousands of dollars a year when Sam’s is included. These were business purchases... I will now go online for my needs. You are free to do and believe whatever you wish.

I just took your words and tried to put them in context.

Like I said earlier, Walmart is doing the ammo (and gun) manufacturers a HUGE FAVOR by canceling their contracts, if that is true. There is no shortage, at all, of retail outlets, and they can now charge (today’s) market prices and have some money in their pockets to fight this crap.

As I see it, it’s a no-lose, except that we will pay a bit more for guns and ammo - if true.

Walked down the aisle at my Wal-Mart and saw a locked up display of 9mm, 12 boxes of 50 each. Caught the clerk’s eye and put up 3 fingers. She said, “that’s all?”
The boxes put on the counter as she wrote up the sale, and a voice said, “Hey, look at that.” I turned and saw 2 men hurrying to the display.
Wal-Mart was plumb out of 9mm, cleaned out in about 3 minutes.
Tomorrow I’ll stroll by that case again, nothing to lose.

I have no idea on the guns/ammo or Walmart corporate actions. However, for about two years the employees and management at our local WM were told (and they passed it on) that the entire fabric department was going away. It never happened.

They also had all the greeters depressed over the elimination of their jobs. The greeters are still there and I never see them at the registers or doing any stocking.

This particular store did get rid of the Vision Center, however, and the only other alternative is the local ophthalmologist, so all that business now goes to a store 45 miles away, where there is also loads of competition in a city of 50k.

As a customer, it is difficult to understand Walmart. I do believe they treat each store separately, so guns and ammo may disappear some places and will return in others, once manufacturers are able to fill back orders and the hoo-haw quiets down some.
