However, it turns out that I, and many others here, were wrong about Obama's daughters' school employing armed guard. We should be willing to humbly admit that we were wrong on this issue, and try not to make mistakes of this nature in the future.
“...11 armed guards”
Sorry, but I won’t apologize to anyone - in this case for several reasons:
1) If the Secret Service is there, then they don’t need ‘armed guards’, simply because the Secret Service will do that job for them. Anyone that comes within a mile of that school will be tracked and greeted, long before they can pose a threat to anyone.
2) Even when the President’s family is not at the school, there are BOATLOADS of kids of high-ranking government people, including Senators and Congressmen (as well as department heads, etc.). There is simply NO WAY that such a target-rich environment (at least as a kook would see it) would he left unguarded, and it shouldn’t be. In other words, NO WAY!!!
3) Finally, if they didn’t really have armed people there, does one think they would announce it?
So, no, maybe they don’t have ‘armed guards’, but they DEFINITELY have a lot of “armed people” there - maybe janitors, cooks, office workers, etc (who just happen to be plainclothes cops). The official guards, the ones at the TV monitors don’t have to be armed, all they need are radios to reach the right people.
You really think the girls and all the other “special children” aren’t protected by armed personnel? You really think they’re going to tell you security arrangements?
This doesn’t change the fact that *no* Federal employee, past or present...elected,appointed or civil service...should have armed protection of *any* sort. And that goes for the family members of any such employee.
The school doesn’t have to employee armed guards. High profile families employee private armed bodyguards at private schools for their children and I am not referring to secret service agents. Be assured that there is plenty of lead in that school even when the first children are not enrolled.
If so, it’s only because the secret service won’t let them carry...
I commend you for wanting to get the facts straight regardless of some embarrassment by doing so.
Pardon my naivety in such issues, but isn’t the Secret Service armed? If so, then I think that the SS would secure the school if they heard shots being fired at the school, regardless if there was no immediate danger to Obama’s daughters.
In fact, if I was in charge of the school then I would look at the SS’s presence as a freebe with respect to not having to use school funds to pay for security. And for all we know, the school might have expressed the same thing to the SS, the SS possibly responding, “we’ll take care of it.” I don’t know.
What am I overlooking?
“Fact Checker”. ROTFL!!! I guess he’s never heard of the Secret Service.
Washington DC Police Department is two blocks away.
Way to go, WP! Draw a little more attention to the security arrangements of the president’s family. Does anyone believe the SS would allow nonSS armed personnel near one of their protectees?
If Sidwell had no armed guards, then why didn’t they refute the charges when they were first aired? I simply don’t believe the wapo article.
God help those kids. I really mean this.
Sidwell is surrounded by at least a dozen embassies.and the Police HQ is two blocks away.
My guess is that when Obama’s kids showed up, the regular guards were replaced with Secret Service.
I doubt all the other libs who have been sending their kids for all these years to Sidwell did so knowing there were no armed guards.
Have you seen these Breitbart pieces?
School Obama's Daughters Attend Has 11 Armed Guards
If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards -- they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point.
The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period. And this is the reason people like NBC's David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren't used (and weren't even allowed).
D.C. School (Sidwell Friends) Posts Job Opening for Police Officer
Before the horrific crime at Sandy Hook Elementary even took place, some schools in our nation were already putting armed security and police officers on their campuses. As a matter of fact, one such schoolSidwell Friends School in Washington, DCposted a job opening for a night shift police officer on Nov. 28, so they could have protection around the clock.
According to the posting, the position "is the overnight/midnight shift," and they made it clear that candidates would have to provide copies of their training credentials, SPO license, and professional references.
Well, at least now I understand why people were upset. I knew they didn’t have armed guards, and I presumed the people who did the video were smart enough to check that, and that they were talking about Secret Service agents, who are armed.
And of course, that’s not because Obama is an elitist, but because he’s the President.
Of course, does anybody really think one of the kids at Sidwell Friends is going to show up and shoot their classmates?
They lied about Jeep moving manufacturing to China to help Ubama get reelected. Why wouldn’t they lie about this?
I bet this is all a matter of semantics. They may not have “armed guards” carrying weapons, but I bet there are people at the school that have weapons available to them if they need them.
If this school has the kids of the very rich and powerful attending it, it is likely that other children may have body guards. Kidnapping is a very real threat for the families of the rich and powerful. Who knows how many body guards are normally around watching their client’s children at a given time. With the Obama kids there they might have to pass high security qualifications. With only unarmed security guards the school could hardly go very far in guaranteeing parents their children’s safety.
Don’t be stupid... Of course the SS is not going to allow others to posses guns in the school. Thrus me the school is heavly armed... even though it may not be paid for by the school directly. WE are paying for it.
