Doctor probes teen on guns in the home

In pro-gun-regulation Illinois — where politicians would rather play gun control politics than fight the murderous street gangs — a young man was admitted to the hospital.

Sam Insley, 16, of Oak Lawn, wasn't admitted with a gun problem.

Sam had a tonsil problem.

"Yes, he's a big kid, but regardless of his age and stature, my husband and I were with him the entire time he was there."

Sam was admitted to Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn on Jan 4. A resident and two medical students began jotting down notes for a routine medical history. At one point, Mrs. Insley said, they asked her to step out of the room.

"I felt uneasy, but I stepped out so my son wouldn't be embarrassed," she told me, saying she figured they would ask drug and alcohol questions. Sam doesn't take drugs or alcohol, she said

A cop can’t ask an illegal about his citizenship status but a doctor can ask about guns in the home.

Seems pretty clear that we the people are the enemy.

Yeah, it’s one of their “plus” stories. You need an account to view it. No thanks...

A good reason for NOT “stepping out of the room” and leaving your minor child alone when the doc is taking patient history .... and asking intrusive questions that affect the home and the parent(s) rights.

“X” out the popup ... the story that was ‘behind’ the popup was about firefighting .... so I hit the ‘back’ arrow on my browser and it took me right to the doc/gun question story (took me three tries to figure that out!).

Medical information given to a doctor is an exception to the heresay rule in court. (civil and criminal)

This is a way to get around the warrant issue.

Unless there is an actual arms would or an insane person issue there is zero reason for this doctor’s questions.

Doctors should haave a few made examples of in order to create a liability nightmare for them.

>>>Mary Rita Insley, newly sensitized to gun issues, has since applied for a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. But here’s what bothers her.

“If I purchase a gun, am I then supposed to train my children to lie for fear of the government knowing I have guns?” she asked<<<

I love when the leftist bullying tactics have the opposite of the desired effect and inspire citizens to exercise their rights.

As for the question, some possible answer she could instruct her children to give:

1) None of your DAMN business!
2) I’ll be happy to respond once you have adequately explained how that question is medically relevant to my condition.
3) Doctor, do you have any guns in YOUR house? Any alcohol? Any pornography? Any copies of left-wing publications?
4) I find it odd that you are asking a child who is your patient to inform on his parents. Did you know this sort of thing was common in Nazi Germany? Are you by any chance, a Nazi?
5) Are you planning on invading my house if I answer, “No”?
6) Why do you think it is OK to invade the privacy of your minor patients and their families?
7) Are you asking me this because you are a Communist or a Fascist?
8) Do you have any copies of the Constitution in your home? Would you like one?
9) If you tell me which particular firearms are known to cause my medical condition, I will ask my parents if we have any of those.

There can only be two reason to ask about guns. One would be tge patient was shot. The other is the trickier reason, and that would be the same reason they ask children whether they’re being abused in general. This is not because it is medically relevant, unless the doc needs to know the precise nature of the injury beyond what’s readily apparent. It’s because the state has deemed hospitals one of the proxy contact points between citizens and government. Same way therapists are compelled to report imminent danger from a patient or teachers are ordered to stick their noses in kids’ business.

Guns have nothing to do with it in particular, and I have no idea why they’d need to know more than that they were shot, if that’s what brought them there. It may be of further interest who shot them, but whether or not there are usually guns in the home is irrelevant, unless that could somehow decide between it being accidental or not.

they have already tried to turn children into eviro-brownshirts via the public schools. ie school projects of writing environmental violator tickets to mom and dad for using an suv etc.

this is just like the USSR which used children in their mandatory scout program to report parents who were hoarding food in defiance of the collective.

control medicine and you control everyone because everything becomes medical.

Stock answer: “If you really want to know, break in some night.”

LOL

If my kids' doctor asked me that? I'd take them to another doctor....thou my kids would answer: 'Excuse me, but what does GUNS have to do with medicine?'

I had to clean it up a bit... my kids hates the OMarxist administration almost as bad as the wife and me.

Of course, the kids' doctor knows we have guns -- we seen him at the local gun range.

OOps, I shouldn't say that...the MARXIST might take his practice away for having and using GUNS!!
