"The Newtown Board of Education will be asking the town to make room for more armed police officers in its budget.

In a meeting Thursday, the board voted to request the town to add full time uniformed school resource officers to its four elementary school s for the next fiscal year was approved this evening. The officers would be Newtown police officers.

“Our parents are demanding of us that things are made safe and secure and certain measures areput in place,” said Chairwoman Debbie Leidlein. “So we’re being very thoughtful.”

Multiple police officers have been stationed at all Newtown schools since the December 14th shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary killed twenty children and 6 teachers. Those officers will remain at the school through the remainder of the school year. For the next fiscal year, resource officers were budgeted only to be at Middle and High Schools. ..."

SROs in the schools will help save our children's lives.

The anti-2nd Amendment gun grabbing bills will not.

Watch and see. A proposal will come forth to tax ALL firearms for some percentage (say 10%) to cover the cost of Armed Security Officers in all public schools.....it’s coming.

What took them so long??

Had to wait till Gabby left?

I'm so angry that she went there. I do not believe she knows that she's become a government pawn.

The Leftoids ridiculed Wayne LaPierre when he proposed this very thing.

I bet that will be a pretty boring job. I imagine this will never happen in Newtown again.

Like lightning, random acts like this very rarely happen a second time in the same place.

Just read a story about an off-duty armed guard who disarmed a student who opened fire at a GA middle school. The kid’s gun had made it past the metal detector. One kid was shot before the guard disarmed the shooter but was taken to the hospital and expected to be OK, IIRC. It’s believed there was some kind of conflict between the two kids. The shooter is being charged and will presumably learn that shooting somebody isn’t the way to deal with conflict.

A much better outcome than Newtown, and I’m glad the Newtown parents are demanding a response that actually works.

They don't need extra money. What they need is to find out which teachers are ex-military or ex-police and/or which teachers or administrators are safety trained CCW carriers and then just ask them to come to school armed and prepared to do their duty to protect the students from harm.

The schools could pay for additional training for the teachers and they could insist that, in the future, in order to get a teachers' credential, they must take a course in firearm safety and pass any test necessary to get a concealed weapon permit.

Yeah, in lib logic, adding good guys with guns makes the place less safe because there are more guns.

Additionally, by this logic, shouldn’t the president be TERRIFIED to be surrounded by “men with guns” all the time?

I imagine this will never happen in Newtown again.

Right, and it will never ever ever happen again if the schools in Newtown all have armed and firearm trained security guards protecting the children.

Newtown schools are no longer gun free zones. Therefore they are now much safer places to send your children.

Of course their minds are not safe since 90% of the teachers are left-wing propagandists.

I disagree. Let the ones that want to be armed and can pass the gun requirements come to school armed. I don't want any teacher not comfortable with a gun to be handling them. There are plenty of teachers that are begging to take the safety courses and carry a gun.

A Google search shows that only local news is running this story so far. Does anyone think the national media will run it?

SROs in the schools will help save our children's lives.

******************

Following the NRA's initial and most-sane recommendation:
...Who knew...??

Easiest... fastest... armed.... "well-trained"... permanent...
A LEO presence will provide deterrence and the immediate remedy in the event of any attempt to assault the schools.

--UNLIKE--
Awaiting the national debate & eventual attempt at compromised legislation...
...That will likely (& hopefully!!) be enjoined...
...And/or quickly slapped down as unconstitutional

Training and arming the custodians/teachers/staff would be a reasonable compromise between security and economy.

Right away after Newtown, when my son and I were discussing the arguments being made, he wondered if schools would have any problem with teachers, etc having guns with rubber bullets, or a taser.

Aside from the politics and 2nd Amendment aspects of the issue, tasers and/or rubber bullets (as a substitute for NOTHING, in places where the liberal fear of guns won’t be overcome) could hopefully at least prevent a Beslan from happening in the US. Because we can know for sure that the enemies of America are comprehending and planning to exploit the vulnerabilities that we’ve shown the world.

At this point a school being disarmed has to be about as provocative to the Islamists as a woman showing her elbow. No man can be expected to withstand that level of temptation.
