It's not something they intend to use immediately, but the Cumberland Valley School Board Monday night approved a policy revision that will allow random searches of student vehicles by local law enforcement officials using certified drug dogs.
Development of the policy has been in the works for about a year. Board members said they wanted to put it in place now so that parents and students will know it can be used and to include it in a new student handbook soon to be prepared.
District officials said any vehicle searches would be coordinated with the Cumberland County Drug Task Force.
Under the policy, students and parents will have to consent to possible random searches of vehicles driven by students to school and parked on campus before they can obtain a parking permit.
The district has conducted random searches of student lockers, but board member Robert M. Walker said there has been a migration of contraband from lockers to vehicles.
The searches would have to be random and could be done by using a lottery system of numbered parking decals or by selecting certain sections of student parking areas and picking vehicles at random.
District officials said the policy is intended to balance the interest of maintaining a safe school environment and respecting individual protections guaranteed under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Students are barred from bringing contraband items to school, including but not limited to drugs, alcohol, weapons and explosives.
This new policy really pushes the line with the 4th Amendment. Of course the policy only works and is constitutional because students and parents sign a form waiving their rights.
I completely view this as a measure, prehaps even coordinated, at a minimum it is aligned with forces, to destroy out Constitution. There is no 2a at CV, it is a gun free zone. That is a major inconveince to me since I carry and I often have to go to my daughter's school. The 1a is destroyed based on fear of retaliation by teachers via giving my children poor grades. The union thugs at this school have the school board stacked and the community doesn't care or is ignorant since they are busy trying to earn a living.
Now the 4a is under attack. Perhaps 'attack' isn't the correct word, but I do know that the Constitution is not being correctly taught at school and there is a generation of kids that are being conditioned to passively give up their 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendment rights to "authority".
My daughter parked off campus. We told the school to go pound sand when they wanted her to get a parking sticker and park on campus.
When I was in HS, my vehicle was my only personal space. Kids need that too.
Next up: dogs that are trained to alert on the smell of Break Free CLP.

Probably not yet. I work in the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and the Capitol Police sweep my building every Wednesday with dogs. I often pass then as I am leaving the building. depending on what I coat I am wearing I worry about powder residue or live ammo to set the dogs off. I use CLP on my ARs and larger pistols. I run wet and dirty most of the time. There is bound to be scent of CLP on some of my coats. So far the dogs haven't noticed.
I have to ask, do they have a big drug problem or is this just a control thing?

No big drug problem, or should I say, no bigger drug problem than the parents of the students. I know there are drugs in the community, just like anywhere, but there aren't crack houses and people strung out on meth that have to steal to support a habit. It is a firmly upper-middle class area with little to no crime. My township police department's online blotter has multiple entires of houses being toilet papered, egged and lawn ornaments stolen. Big crime is DUI.
I’m certain the school has set aside funds to cover the damage done to private property when the dog scratches the paint, or otherwise damages the interior of said vehicle. /s
Mine graduated from Cv last year. I guess the kids conceivably put drugs in the car.
Find out what kind of car the principal drives, photo his lic plate, put it on a similar car and go run red lights that have ticket cams.

I pay my fair share of taxes which are used to educate my children and others.
I don’t give up my 4th amendment for hypothetical threats to the school.
Like wise, I don’t subsumed any other parts of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for your contrived hole Shiite.
Do your job, which like the policy you mean to implement, is rather random as well.
Unfortunately, the law is on the side of the school.
Public schools have more legal leeway than, say, a college. They can search your child’s locker with no warrant...and a car brought on to the campus is the same
Years ago, as a military dependent, many times I entered the old NTC Orlando I was pulled over for search. I could not refuse the search, and I would be kicked off base if I did (which meant I lost my BX job). They had the right to search, and I had no right
Send your children to a private school. We don’t do any of this crap.
That was my first thought to put a hole in the policy. If a kid wanted to get another in trouble it would be easy enough to drop drugs through a cracked window or a unlocked door. There is no probable cause in random searches. I know how kids act, and adults for that matter. This is the exact reason why we have God given rights, including the 4a. People have not changed in some regards since the 18th century. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing.
Out school district has run amuck, from multi-million dollar solar panels that don't break even to arbitrary dress code, to food monitors in the cafeteria.
At least some of the kids know better because of their parents. The kids call the principal, "Judy", as an intentional sign of disrespect. (And she does deserve it. She is a homo loving liberal that had her ass kicked out of Susquehanna Twp. School District.). I was at a football game last fall when she was on the field and all the kids were chanting, "Judy, Judy, Judy". They knew what they were doing. Judy didn't. They laughed their asses off when Judy acknowledged them and didn't know she was being mocked.
*laughing uncontrollably* That's funny. Our constitutional rights are now 'balanced' against obtaining a parking sticker.
I think turnabout is fair play. Teachers should be subject, randomly of course, to having their cars searched.
My daughter is out of there in June, she graduates. We pulled our other daughter out this year as she entered her freshman year.
Good, the more people do this, the more schools shut down.
There are plenty of ways to educate your children without forcing them to give up their constitutional rights.
