Dresden deserves to be remembered
UK Telegraph ^ | 02/13/2013 | Tom Chivers

It's the 68th anniversary of the Dresden bombing. In Britain, we don't think about it as much as, perhaps, we should. The bare facts. More than 1,200 RAF and USAAF bombers attacked the city between the 13th and 15th of February 1945, in four raids. They dropped 3,900 tons of high explosive and incendiary bombs, killing between 22,000 and 25,000 people, almost all civilians. The city's anti-aircraft defences had all been moved to defend the industrial works of the Ruhr valley. The details are chilling.

“If’’ is the middle word in life. A lot of things might not have happened as a result of WW1. I might not be here as my grandfather was a veteran of WW1. It doesn’t let the German people off the hook however for following an Austrian guttersnipe into Hell.

Germany was on the ropes in February 45 but not down yet. Regardless of politics and second guessing history I don't give a damn for Germans being killed in Dresden. The sons of bitches stomped around like they owned the Earth, started the most destructive war in human history and in the Holocaust, committed the most monstrous crime humans have ever undertaken. Tough sh!t for Dresden.

Your ignorance is shocking. Check the stats. We had bomber groups not only over Europe but Italy as well and the Pacific. All told our losses were much more then the RAF suffered. The RAF didn’t face the Me109s and Fw 190s like our guys did.

What would you have done if you had been a German civilian at the time, assuming you knew what was happening to Jews?

Killed Hitler. Sounds cocky and simplistic to say but the man was easy enough to approach. That is before the war. Other Germans, answering Gods admonition of being ''thy brothers keeper'' risked their lives in an attempt to stop Hitler but failed. The Holocaust began the moment Hitler opened his mouth and the German people shut theirs. He made plain from the start in his rise from the gutter to dictator what he intended to do to the Jews. Anti-Semitism didn't start with the Nazis. It had a long history in Europe and Germany. Martin Luther was a vicious anti Semite. Hitler could not have risen to power as he did and initiate the Holocaust all by himself. The middle class in Germany is the one class more responsible than any other for his coming to power and as such it was the ordinary German who became the cog in the wheels of the slaughter . Whether they shoved some unfortunate into the gas chamber or looked the other way. It's a bit of an intellectual dishonesty to do the ''what would you have done'' as a means of deflecting the issue and the blame for what a generation of Germans did. My conscience is clear. The last member of my family who fought the Nazis in Europe in my namesake and Americas has gone to his reward. You and I live in the freedom that he and millions of others fought for. As the noose was put around his neck at Nuremburg Hans Frank, ''The Hangman of Poland'' said "A thousand years will pass and the guilt of Germany will not be erased''.

Bear in mind, we have our own holocaust of innocents occurring as we speak, and we’ve failed miserably to stop or even slow it. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Nope. Not buying it, sorry, not having it. Abortion is murder I agree where at one time I agreed that it wasn’t. We are not as a society rounding up pregnant women and forcing them into abortion mills, killing they and their children to make soap out of them. Genocide as a state policy within the framework of conducting a war of aggression against other countries is an entirely different matter and to use the Bibles wisdom as a means of doing nothing. i.e ‘’judge not..’’ is ridiculous. Had the civilized world done so Hitlers grandkids would still be in jackboots marching all over the world.

Genocide is a state policy in America. Free abortion under obamacare is coming shortly, and how long will it be, do you think, before forced abortions are the law of the land?

The point is, there is a slaughter of innocents occurring today and you have done precisely what most Germans did -- nothing. We have even less of an excuse because the holocaust was perpetrated largely in secret, while the abortion genocide is openly pushed for all to see.

My friend , you are way out in left field with this one. The Holocaust was not carried out in secret. This is another excuse the Holocaust deniers use. Do the research and youll see, from Julius Striechers turgid daily ‘’Der Sturmer’’, to’’Mein Kampf’’ and even children’s board games in Germany at the time (’’Get The Jews Out’’) it was obvious what was happening. If you lived close enough to the camps you could smell the bodies being burned. Abortion, evil as it is is a sometimes necessary medical procedure used to save a womans life. Genocide is not. And to raise the specter of jackbooted thugs dragging women off to abortion mills, packed like cattle in a train car is beyond absurd and debases the memory of the millions who were killed and the millions more who fought heroically to end it. Please stop. Abortion is an evil but equating it to the Holocaust is a veritable insult.

“If the international finance-Jewry inside and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations into a world war yet again, then the outcome will not be the victory of Jewry, but rather the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe!”

Yup. Malmedy is another one. The last uncle of my childhood passed away two months ago. My Uncle Fred who proudly served with the 84th. Infantry Division in Belgium during The Battle of the Bulge and was wounded doing so. In his honor and for the bravery and the honor of Americans who fought the Germans in WW2 I will never tolerate this crap about ‘’Germans were victims too’’ or ‘’The Allies were just as bad’’ bullsh!t. Had the Germans won the damn war, none of us would be sitting a computer terminals talking like this.

"Abortion is an evil but equating it to the Holocaust is a veritable insult."

Abortion IS a holocaust, equal or worse to the one perpetrated by the nazis. The number of unborn killed so far (and there are no allies this time around to stop this holocaust) is making hitler blush with shame at his low body count.

It is an insult to claim that abortion is so far below the holocaust of the Jews that the two cannot be compared.

No I am not! I'm a former liberal who once supported abortion on demand until my mind and heart was changed. This is a discussion about a chapter in WW2 history and you're trying to equate abortion to genocide as state policy.

Why were the Russians resting and recuperating outside Berlin ~ good grief, don't you read these threads?

Everybody was waiting on the completion of the Yalta Conference where Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin divided up Europe and condemned Eastern Europe (not one of the aggressor states) to half a century under the Russian yoke.

It all makes sense man ~ think of it this way ~ we didn't even need to land at Normandy. We had nukes coming up and if we'd waited a year we could have obliterated Germany in its entirity and saved hundreds of thousands of American and Allied troops lives.

We ended up not doing that, but there was, in hindsight, no reason for the US to have ever directly engaged, on the ground, with combat troops!

The French regime was the kingpin in the interlocking treaties prior to WWI. They could have stopped the war very early on ~ like from DAY 1.

In that sense France is responsible for all the carnage in Europe in the 20th century, much as it was responsible for most of the carnage in Europe in the 19th century!

The women are being tricked by propagandists to haul themselves off to the abortionists to kill their babies. The outcome is the same ~ unnecessary murder of the innocent.
