S.E. Cupp and the Freezing of the Conservative Mind
America Spectator ^ | 2-21-13 | Jeffery Lord

Posted on 02/22/2013 12:02:52 PM PST by Mozilla

One reads S.E. Cupp on Rush Limbaugh and the late Lee Atwater and has to wonder.

One reads her compatriot young conservative friends in the New York Times and has to wonder.

Do these conservatives even listen to themselves?

Are they really conservatives — or just the latest, newest incarnation of that age old 20th century invention: the GOP moderate? The newest sparkling edition of a wannabe Ruling Class? Making the rounds of the bar scene in Manhattan and New York and longing to be hip?

Or are we witnessing something else? Something simpler yet more troubling?

A lack of historical awareness of conservatism. Are we seeing young conservatives who seem not to have grasped conservatism whole? Who do not understand the seamless thread that binds conservative values as a way of life, from the Constitution to gay marriage and abortion to free market economics and dealing with Al Qaeda?

Young conservatives who have a lack of perspective of both conservatism’s intellectual foundation and in this case the ferocious politics that swirl constantly around its most prominent champions? With apologies to the late Allan Bloom and his 1987 bestseller (The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today’s Students), are we witnessing a freezing of the conservative mind? (Note: Ex-Bush aide Pete Wehner has conjured the freezing metaphor in a slightly different way over at Commentary.)

First, let’s deal with the Rush business.

As mentioned earlier this week, the New York Times Magazine cover story on a group of young GOP techies and commentators — of which Ms. Cupp is a leading member — was discussed in this space.

She is also an atheist.
I know Ayn Rand was too. Still hard for me to believe in atheist conservatives - seems like an oxymoron to me.

I saw ‘C’ Cup on a talk show a while back and thought she was barking moonbat liberal. It just oozed out of her every pore.

I'm rather shocked to hear that anyone would think she is conservative. She doesn't even reach RINO on that scale.

S.E.Cupps is merely a trophy conservative. I bet with her Rush Limbaugh critique, ‘progressive’ invitations have increased. There’s nothing the left loves more than a bitter conservative.

A conservative atheist is much like a battleship without a rudder. As formidable as it may appear to be up close, the reality - as illustated with the battleship Bismark - is that even a battleship is doomed if it cannot navigate.

A conservative atheist rejects the source of their conservative values and, in doing so, has cast away their moral and foundational rudder. Then, just like the Bismark, they are doomed to perish.

Myself, if I stand with God then who can stand against me?

Thank You,

I figured since you are actually a little younger than I am, but have your priorities straight I thought you would like it :D

Us younger Conservatives don't have to mind numbed gay marriage supporting robots.

We can and do have Social Conservatives Values. Something I wish the old timers could get through their head ;)

“...what President Reagan worked for almost 30 years to construct.”

Had the voting age been eighteen in 1964, my first presidential vote would have for Goldwater. As it was, I did pass out a lot of flyer and things for the local Young Republicans.

“The left didn’t want to debate these people — they wanted to demonize them and then destroy them.”

I think that is the key point these moderates, squishy congress critters, and young talking heads don’t get. The lefties are playing for keeps. There is no negotiation or compromise with them that doesn’t ultimately destroy freedom. Its time to change direction before we plunge off the cliff into economic chaos and a failed police state.

Its like like with islamic terrorism - how do you compromise with someone that wants you dead? Kill me next week instead of this one?

"Not that complicated. The C cupster is a self promoting fluker pandering to her MSNBC audience."

Who cares... I would watch her read a phone book.

Libertarians are the commandos of the left, and the new fig leaf for destroying conservatism and America.

We gotta deal with that every generation.

I remember when Kennedy was shot- when I tell my kids about that they act like I must have been around when Lincoln was shot too.

I dont remember WWII.

My dad didnt rememeber WWI

We are dealing with voters who were born AFTER Pong, Donkey Kong, and Pacman existed.
