Cruz: I Hope Fidel, Raul Castro “Join Hugo Chavez”
Townhall.com ^ | March 10, 2013 | Daniel Doherty

Posted on 03/10/2013 5:43:25 PM PDT by Kaslin

Most Americans continue to loath Hugh Chavez for the oppressive, authoritarian tyrant that he was. The late dictator debased individual liberty and basic human freedom, to say nothing of the billions of dollars he openly embezzled from his own people. The country Venezuela is unquestionably better off now that he’s deceased, of course, but Texas Senator Ted Cruz took the significance of his death a step further.

During a recent speaking engagement, Cruz said -- among other things -- that he hoped thugs like Fidel and Raul Castro will soon meet their maker . . . and the oppressed people of Cuba will finally reap the blessings and benefits that naturally result from free elections (via Real Clear Politics):

Epic Sen. Cruz Speech on Fidel Castro

Bringing freedom to Cuba is an issue that is quite personal for Senator Cruz. His father was tortured and nearly killed there during the 1950s. Miraculously, however, Rafael Cruz was able to escape to Texas with (as he memorably phrased it during his 2012 RNC speech) nothing but “a hundred dollars sewn into his underwear.” And today, fifty years later, his son serves as the junior Senator from one of the largest and most prosperous states in the nation. Where else in the world would this be possible?

Chavez’s death reminds all of us, too, that although Cuba is just 90 miles from the southern coast of Florida, its people have known nothing but tyrannical rule. But perhaps, someday soon, the people of Cuba will enjoy the rights and freedoms we Americans have cherished and defended for centuries. The godless, failed system of communism will eventually be relegated to "the ash heap of history," but it nevertheless survives today less than a hundred miles from our shores.

Cruz firmly believes Chavez’s death is an opportunity for America’s top political leaders to re-affirm and re-proclaim American values to the world -- to stand, in John Winthrop’s words, as that “Shining City on a Hill.” I think so too.

I see you are unable to answer my question, and your trying to toss red herrings does not distract from the question. (Never mind that no one can “successfully” challenge “Obama,” because of the powerful commie intimidation machine that’s propping up his lawless regime—as well as liberal hacks who defend his non-proof of eligibility, like you, because, as you know, this is not about Ted Cruz).

No, you go on ahead with your “bad self,” unless you have an answer to my question. Either way, I’ve lost an hour today because of the stupid time change, so I’m headed to bed.

Again, goodnight.

You are right.

You and I know it, and it's WAY OLD being attacked by liberal trolls who pop up on this site, pretending to be "conservative" while spitting on the Constitution.

The question has been answered in the other thread. Go check it out.

Chester A Arthur and Barack Obama directly contradict your definition of natural born citizen.

No case law supports your definition.

No legal scholar supports your definition.

You are the fringe, and you choose to derail threads regarding great conservatives, like Cruz.

Congratulations.

When Obama’s folks repeal the 2nd term amendment with another one, we can tack on a bit that will cover BOTH Obama and Cruz and we CAN elect Cruz THEN!!!

After this country of low-information voters re-elected obama twice, I could give a flying flip if Ted Cruz is or isn’t a natural born citizen - he’s a wonderful conservative, who loves this country and has a spine. That’s all! I’ve also noticed that those who come from Cuba make great Americans. They love what this country offers them unlike the spoiled liberal brats who seek its ruin.

There is nothing wrong with Ted Cruz being in Congress; he's just not eligible to be President (I understand you could not care less about the constitutional requirements, but some of us still do). He has only been a senator for a short couple of months, so it remains to be seen if he will continue to be the shining conservative star that he seems to be right now. We certainly hope so, but I'm not holding my breath. Washington power has a way of poisoning nice, conservative people. Only time will tell.

You certainly are committed to your wrong-headed zeal.

My first clue was when you ridiculously called the definition of natural born citizen “ridiculous.” That’s really too bad, because these things are not as complicated as some people try to make them.

You and I will never agree, but by all means go on having the last wrong word all you like. Don’t be surprised if I don’t answer your trolling statements.

The difference between Obama and Cruz, citizenshipwise, is that Cruz was born to an American citizen able to confer her citizenship onto her newborn. Stanley Ann was unable because she had not spent enough years in the US past her 15th birthday. She was only barely 18 at his birth, probably also in Canada. With an alien father, little Barack was not a US citizen for the first 10 or more years of his life. Perhaps he never was, legally. There is no known documentation of him having been naturalized.

I do care about the Constitution, but you are missing my point. There is a great controversy over qualifications of being a natural-born citizen, and apparently, many were convinced that obama is one. I don’t think Cruz will change much - I just don’t believe it - at least I’m hoping not. He also isn’t a stranger to politics, even though he is new to the Senate. He has true grit and I applaud him for that - we’ve been so long without someone with a spine representing us and this country. I shudder at what this nation will look like once this regime is gone.

I forgot to add - your opinion of whether or not he is qualified isn’t a unilateral one either. Good Lord - is there anyone the bunch on here won’t pick apart? I don’t think so.

I didn’t miss your point, Cats. And I’m not “picking apart” anyone. I’m a realist.

Many Americans are desperately looking around and realizing that our nation has been taken over by communists (yes, they are communists). And, it has us freaked out, frankly.

Our federal government long ago abandoned the Constitution. That’s why it will be nearly impossible to rein it back into its proper bonds.

What a “natural born citizen” has been commonly understood for eons to be is a child born of two citizen parents in the country. The only reason the question of natural born—or native born—citizen is a “problem,” is because of the mammoth media/political machine backing the fraud “Obama,” that has muddies the waters with lies and misdirection—on purpose, of course. And the courts and secretaries of the states have been intimidated into “approving” him. He has in no way proven his eligibility to be President, but whatever. He is part of the communist coup that has commandeered our federal government.

Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are not eligible to be President. And you can bet your bottom dollar if they continue to be “good conservatives,” (and Rubio is questionable with his amnesty support) then the Left will squeal like stuck pigs if they end up in the running for President, because they suddenly WILL understand the plain, simple meaning of natural born citizen. Count on it.
