The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction runs several programs that heavily emphasize racial issues in public schools.
Some feel that one of those programs – an Americorps operation called VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) – may go a bit overboard by encouraging white students to wear a white wristband “as a reminder about your (white) privilege.”
Geared towards high school students, the program “seeks to build capacity in schools and districts serving low-income families to develop an effective, sustainable, research-based program of family-school-community partnerships,” according to its Facebook page.
That sounds reasonable enough.
But the program’s approach becomes a bit suspect when one reads the Gloria Steinem quote on the top of its webpage: “The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.”
The webpage also offers a series of suggestions for high schools students to become more racially sensitive. They include:
Wear a white wristband as a reminder about your privilege, and as a personal commitment to explain why you wear the wristband.
Set aside sections of the day to critically examine how privilege is working.
Put a note on your mirror or computer screen as a reminder to think about privilege.
The Wisconsin DPI also sponsors several similar programs, including CREATE Wisconsin, an on-going “cultural sensitivity” teacher training program which focuses largely on “whiteness” and “white privilege.”

Will DPI’s obsession with race and “white privilege” actually translate into better educational outcomes for all students? Not likely.
But it will continue to divide the state by race and income status, and allow bureaucrats to make a case for more government funding so they can create a different type of America.
Wisconsin taxpayers really ought to be paying more attention to how their education dollars are spent.

According to the new race theory all white babies come into the world as sinners. Their very skin is a racist insult to all mankind. Their souls are stained by the sins of their ancestors. They must atone for their sin. They must be shamed and humiliated. They must live all their lives in search of minorities’ forgiveness.
Self-loathing.
That’s what it’s all about.
Make the white people feel ashamed of themselves so that the minorities can stop feeling ashamed of themselves.
Make them wear a little rubber band that means, “I am a bad person. Please forgive me.”

I agree. The goal is to foster self loathing. I guess it is the new version of “self esteem”, except the theme is self hatred instead of self love.

You nailed it. The fundamental difficulty with all these "affirmative action initiatives", or "leveling the playing field" type plans, is that by definition they are dividing people on racial lines, and therefore perpetuating the problem, particularly as they will never (voluntarily) dissolve themselves. After all, you can always find new expressions of racism/sexism/ageism/whatever-ism if you look hard enough, or at least identify things that can be interpreted that way (which in practical terms is just as good).
I think the answer is always to be as truthful as possible. The simple fact is that race DOES matter (obviously, we wouldnt be having these discussions if it didnt) but its not that important (or at least its not as important as most people around the world seem to think it is). We are all different yes, but we are all far more similar.
The charge of "Racism" is something the WHITE liberals have dreamed up to the majority of America under their thumb.
What will happen when the Liberals lose the use of this magic weapon?
“White Privilege”? Are we talking about Al Gore’s kids or the white kid growing up in a trailer park? And as for the “underprivileged” black kids, are we talking the kids of some poor inner city family or Obama’s kids who attend an elite private school? The truly privileged white people are mostly supporters of the Democratic Party, who push to have this racist white guilt garbage imposed on the 90% of white kids who are by no means privileged. These initiatives do not help black kids and are not intended to help them. Their intention is to create a new guilt ridden generation of Democrat voters.
Of course, I could probably get them to do so if I wore my pants down to my buttocks, got multiple body piercings and tattoos and traveled in feral gangs.
But, somehow, I think it would have more to do with my style choices and walking companions than my skin color. Silly me!
Multiculturalism/progressivism is simply Marxist class warfare fought along racial and gender lines, with the goal being to unite all the “oppressed” classes (minorities, women, gays etc.) to vote leftist Democrat, and then give them absolute power to punish the “oppressors” (mostly straight white men).

Only if the teachers have to wear a wristband stating “Public Employee Privilege”.
Someone needs to go through the state school system like a dose of salts and get rid of the socialists, Bill Ayers disciples and the race and poverty pimps.
Hannity had some guy on the other day
that stated that there was no such thing as right wing oppressive governments,
and his “shoot out” opponent scoffed.
I wish they’d gone into it more, but the guy explained that “right wing” means limited government, and therefore, by definition, could not be oppressive.
Nazis were government control collectivists, ie, leftists.
And today’s leftist policies more closely resembles the Nazi model of government than it does the communist model of government.
How about green wristbands for all those “on the dole”. That’s kind of a privilege, huh
if they don't know who their father is.
Even the Great Ronald Reagan could not undo the Department of Education. What does that tell you about the true power brokers within the Republican Party?
