The San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday they are pledging $500,000 toward supporting gun control legislation. According to ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner, the Niners said they—along with local and national law enforcement—are signing a pledge for a "more understanding and safer America." The legislation would ban mechanisms that can make a semi-automatic weapon an automatic weapon, in addition to silencers and armor-piercing bullets. OAKLAND -- Some were attending a birthday party. Others were working at a downtown a hair salon or on their way to a fast-food restaurant. In less than 24 hours over the weekend, 12 people were shot along Oakland streets -- three of them fatally, their deaths marking the city's 63rd, 64th and 65th homicides of the year. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction runs several programs that heavily emphasize racial issues in public schools. Minority children might be at greater risk for car crash-related injuries because fewer wear seat belts, a study finds. The study, presented Saturday at the American Academy of Pediatrics' national conference in Boston, looked at statistics on 37,375 children younger than 16 collected from the National Trauma Database from 2002 to 2006. Among those children, less than half -- 45.7% -- were in restraints. The lowest use of seat belts was found among black, Hispanic and Native American children.

Perception is nine-10ths of the law in politics and the perception among a plurality of black Americans is that people oppose the president’s policies because the opponents are racist, a Rasmussen Poll found. On top of that, 21% said black-white relations are getting worse, 43% said white-Hispanic relations are getting worse, and 31% said black-Hispanic relations are getting worse. No other interracial relationships were included in the poll. The big question asked by Rasmussen was the perception of the motive of opposition to the president.
