WASHINGTON Following President Obamas lunch meeting with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill, Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins described the food served and said the president was not able to eat since his taster was not present.
University of Maine recipe for healthy lobster salad I pointed that out to the president in keeping with the first ladys initiatives and Fox Family Potato Chips made in Aroostook County where Im from and wild blueberry pie full of anti-oxidants, see this was a healthy lunch as well. We did have a little ice cream on the pie too, also made in Maine, Giffords Ice Cream. So in all seriousness this was well received, Collins told reporters on Thursday after the meeting at the Capitol.
He looked longingly at it, Collins continued. He honestly did look longingly at it, but apparently he has to have essentially a taster, and I pointed out to him that we were all tasters for him, that if the food had been poisoned all of us would have keeled over so, but he did look longingly at it and he remarked that we have far better food than the Democrats do, and I said that was because I was hosting.

Why would think I would joke about something so series?

A tad paranoid, are we?
Seems Ogoofball is as paranoid as his “subjects”.....
I thought tasters went out with kings and other rulers.
Why doesn’t he use a TSA lackey - after all the food would be transported down his gullet.
Guess that explanation is eaiser than simply admitting that the drugs he is on kill his appetite.
To my knowledge, no President has ever before had a "taster". Only Obama.
And recall that he is also the only President, when he dines with a group, the group is supplied only with "sporks" -- no silverware, no knives and forks allowed when the President is in the room.
Somehow, I doubt that any of this fetish stems from the Secret Service. Somebody has pretensions of grandeur...
King Carol of Romania was equally unpretentious, walking the sidewalks of Bucharest & talking to ordinary citizens. He had no fear of his people.
Obama’s use of a taster & having his guests make do with sporks is as classless as it is paranoid.
Good point. I did a search once of Obama's barbecue outings -- trying to determine whether pork was ever on the menu.
In every case where the "ribs" were identified, they turned out to be beef ribs.
Obama can’t have a taster. The taster has to be someone less important than the person he is protecting. Osama bin Laden and Hugo Chavez are dead, and “Rev.” Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church doesn’t want the job. There is no one left who is even more expendable than our Dear Leader.
Loved his sardines.
The only thing I learned on this thread is that no one knows if Obama is the only president having his food tasted.
Obama gives up plenty EVERY day to attack. We need to be more careful about jumping in without any information, it makes us look bad, as if the left needed anything else to use against us.
According to this one, several presidents have had tasters, including George W. Bush. This was just a google search, they could be wrong.

And
From November 2003:
AS if the Queen hasnt got enough on her plate accommodating all President Bushs security demands, the Secret Service have put a food taster into the Buckingham Palace kitchens.
Nothing is being left to chance by the Americans, who have assembled the largest security operation seen in London for the three-day visit.
According to sources, everything that is destined to be served up for the President has to be tasted first.

Royalty needs food tasters, don’t ya know. And he considers himself royalty.
Well rich or not, he sure is an ass!
