STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin and her family had to leave town during the juvenile rape trial because of threats made against both her and her family.

Sunday evening, Hanlin confirmed that threats had been made, and she found them to be credible. Hanlin said there were instances of threats before, but the number of threats of a specific nature grew.

"As the trial date grew closer, we received a number of them that seemed to be more credible than others," Hanlin said.

Five shot’s worth of any hard liquor of choice, paired with not having eaten anything for a few hours before. It’s entirely possible.

Interesting, though I wonder if you are blending two different things. Woman who take pride in their appearence will dress that way, whether married or not.

As for society going down hill, fast, of that I agree.
As a parent, it scares the he** outta me!

It also raises the question that if she’d wanted to do the team why does it matter if she were conscious or not?

This is Springfield Reformer’s Answer:
Nót really. Competency is an important legal concept and these exact scenarios are a familiar topic in crim law. Tort too. Bottom line, its about consent. If a person can’t or won’t give consent, for any reason, its rape. Drugs and alcohol are well known to impair judgement, and without capacity for ordinary good judgment, you can’t assign consent. This is true even if the impairment is just being a little too young. You can have a fully aware person who actually wants to participate, but the law will deem their judgment impaired by their youth, making consent a legal impossibility. Statutory rape. So this is why the defense was trying to find some point on the drunkenness spectrum where he could claim she was not yet impaired. He needed that to get consent. Apparently that strategy was unsuccessful.

And logically, on this occasion, she didn’t ‘do’ the whole team. Some of the team members ‘did’ her. You want to feed yourself everyday. What does it matter if you lift the forkful of food to your mouth and swallow it or if I hold your gullet open and slide down a small, dead garden snake 3 times a day?

They are discrete concepts, but not mutually exclusive.

A very odd thing when you consider that, these days (to say nothing of my own day)you have to be some kind of real loser not to be able to “pick up” a willing female.

Or just not care about it. I don't, and like the fact that the only medication I take is for an endocrine disease. Tried it, it was boring, the time would've been better spent reading a book.

By that, I hope you mean pop, rap and electronica, not rock.

Is that supposed to be a threat? How about being more explicit?

Had my share of run-ins (sure felt like a run over by a truck, too) with too much alcohol, both liquor and beer.

For everybody wondering, yes, it’s entirely possible to get yourself trashed in a short amount of time. I’m a small guy with a low tolerance and I’ve done it to myself plenty of times.

We have done this to ourselves.

Part of the reason I shot my TV in the early 70’s...And I picked up the pieces when we were done shooting.

Don’t miss it a bit.

When I wrote that, I was thinking about 2 rapper deaths which were on tv programs. I had vaguely heard of Tupac and Biggie but never heard their music so I looked them up. I was absolutely disgusted by the lyrics I found. Why do/did parents let their teens listen to that junk? Like I said, give me Perry Como, Pat Boone, The Kingston Trio, Doris Day, and all the other wonderful singers from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. I have listened to singers I had never heard of but were great. The station is on tunein and is called gotradio forever 50’s. The music is so relaxing.

“Sheesh. Rape isn’t about sex.”

If someone wants “control” a conscious victim is required.

As far as I’m concerned that date-repe drug is largely used by losers whose personality will chase any half decent female away fast. I well remember the sort of losers who would consider a date-rape drug christmas in toyland.

Nope.

Rapes is an evolutionary reproduction strategy, with sex and impregnation as the evolutionary pay-off for doing it, i.e., the rapist’s genes are rewarded for the act by being passed on down to the next generation.

Sheesh. Rape isn’t about sex

So what are you saying--if rape were about sex and nothing else, then rape would be OK?

Terrible story and thanks for sharing it. I’ve been studying this kind of wicked behavior and there is a nexus - pornography.

I fear this is only going to increase as porn moves out of the shadows and into the mainstream. They say that most teen boys today have formed their opinion of women and sex from watching hundreds of porns. When their first sex act isn’t like a porno they’re turned off. Creepy and scary for our society as a whole.

There’s a world of difference between dressing nicely and sluttily. I know plenty of very attractive women who dress modestly and still turn your head. Plus, there’s more to a woman than her appearance.

Then it wouldn’t be rape. It would be sex.
