Rand Paul is a libertarian - many of his positions are to the LEFT of Obama on virtually everything but abortion.

I’d never vote for him and thank God he’ll never be President.

The first problem here is with the large number of people who've gotten in line to immigrate legally ~ they'll see this as a barely concealed return to the old national origins policy except that this time there's only one favored nation ~ to wit: Mexico!

Not that there's anything inherently wrong with Mexicans ~ but the current process is not very selective, and Paul's future process is even less selective ~ it favors the Mexicans who can make the big bucks ~ and that'd be the illegal labor brokers, coyotes and dope dealers under narcotrafficante control.

In short it's a typical Libertarian cop out on morality, fairness and the American Way of Life.

Others may be even more disturbed by this perfidy than I am so you are free to cut loose on this DA Kay-wackian!

I am old enough to remember a time when Americans prided themselves on being a nation of laws and having a government that enforced the law impartially.

In fact, that concept was taught in schools, beginning in grade school, where every student learned to be proud that we were steadfast in respect for our laws and were not just another Banana Republic, ignoring or changing our laws to suit the whims of a dictator or the desires of a special interest group.

Today we have a president who has been a rule breaker and a law breaker his entire adult life. He sees the enforcement, or non-enforcement, of laws as a tool he can use to further his own agenda.

And they call this charlatan a professor of law.

Today we have a republican party that has already capitulated to the idea of forgiveness and amnesty to anywhere from 12 to 30 million arrogant foreign lawbreakers.

Their immediate concern is how to manipulate its own voters to follow along with their surrender. They have little concern with the actual idea of upholding our laws and keeping their own oath of office.

But they still haven’t mastered the arts of lying and spinning as well as democrats so they have not yet been able to fully sell voters on the ideas that disregard of the existing law and rewarding law breakers is a good thing.

But they are working on it.

I stand in complete opposition in this issue.

Essentially, I am against the cheapening of the status of Citizen of these United States. By rewarding those whose very first action upon entering this country is a violation of our law, this is exactly what will be accomplished.

Hell no!

I was never that impressed with him and didn’t understand all the gushing on FR. My patience is wearing thin waiting on a congressman who enforces the law.

I’m fine with a ‘torturous’ path to citizenship. One that holds the right to vote out about ten years. And one where they have to ace this test...

Ted Kennedy told us back in 1986 that there would by no more amnesty programs ever again.

Now why would a Democrat lie?

There has to be a path. Anyone thinking otherwise is delusional.

There is no way a nation ignores its border and immigration policies for 40+ years, then when things get uncomfortable, they all of a sudden get energized.

The U.S. citizenry didn't say jack shiite when the director of INS resigned during the Clinton administration. There is a price for apathy, and the margin call has come in.

You want all the brown skins returned to their country of origin? Too freaking bad. It isn't going to happen because you will never have the votes nor national will to get it done. Your only chance is to take over the public school system so that these kids can be assimulated into American conservative thought. Absent that, you are spinning a fantasy.

Own your apathy.

“his libertarian base won't let it deter their support of him, but conservatives might be a little miffed”

I concluded awhile back Rand was a liberaltarian posing as a Conservative.

I'm not “miffed” I'm a Conservative who will only vote for a Conservative and that means I wont vote for Paul...

Have always realized that Rand isn’t a Conservative any more than his father was. He is a Libertarian just just like Ron Paul.....

While I enjoy his lucid Conservative moments as much as anyone, I won’t be slipping into any sort of idol worship or unthinking political support for the man that seem to be the norm for the Paulites here.

Keep an eye on him???? You bet..... he can’t always be trusted to be Conservative.

Let me say this very simply -

Here you finally have a prominent conservative trying to get ahead of an issue, preparing for 2014 and 2016 at the same time, and laying the foundation for the possibility of a workable solution to an incredible problem.

Without the Latino vote, conservatives are just a few election cycles away from being priced out of the game.

This immigration reform was supposed to be Obama and the Democrats big win this year. Paul has jumped out in front of them and is working to focus the conversation away from entitlement and pure amnesty towards a secure border and a reasonable pathway to at least being a documented, tax paying worker.

I think that it is genius plan that controls the conversation, engages the media and gets out in front of a major issue early in the next election cycle. At the same time, it steals thunder from Democrats and Obama.

I for one think that listening to and supporting what is agreeable is critical, not just thread after thread of bailing on a good person who shows leadership promise that can grow into the future. Of course, healthy opposition to the parts that are disagreeable is important, but completely dumping a good candidate, Senator and person without hearing out the plan, considering the alternatives and coming together in strength is a guaranteed pathway to failure. Again...

this is serial immigration.

for every ONE there are THIRTY that are added to the parth of that ONE.

if anything it should be a pure guest worker ONLY program and at worst as ONE PERSONAL ONLY amnesty with no right of derivative immigration.
