Andrew Young to Newsmax: ‘Wars Don’t Work’
Newsmax ^ | Friday, 22 Mar 2013 09:50 PM | Todd Beamon and Kathleen Walter

Posted on 03/22/2013 8:51:18 PM PDT by Olog-hai

Former U.N. Ambassador and Congressman Andrew Young tells Newsmax TV that the United States has “got to have better intelligence and better diplomacy because wars don’t work.”

“The only places where we have real troubles are Zimbabwe, Cuba, North Korea, and Iran,” says Young, the former Atlanta mayor who retired last year from the GoodWorks International global advisory firm he founded in 1996. “Russia and China were far greater threats, but we talked to them, we worked with them, we found nonviolent ways to have regime change through evolution rather than through war. What Iran wants and what North Korea wants is respect,” Young, 81, tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. …

“There’s no military solution. There is a business solution—and the sooner we can provide jobs, not with our money, but the United States has to provide the framework. This is where the creative involvement of the United States comes in,” Young tells Newsmax. “This is what we’re good at. This is what we did for Europe. This is what we did for Japan. This is what we’ve done for much of the world—and we did it without killing anybody. We did it by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, healing the sick, and setting at liberty those who are oppressed.” …

Europe, Japan . . . ? Forgot about that little thing called World War II, Mister Ambassador?

Where do we get people like this, really? They think they know better than their predecessors. George Washington said that the USA must be “at all times ready for War”; Frederick the Great said “(d)iplomacy without force of arms is like music without instruments”; and people like Young think they can rewrite thousands of years of human history by wishing it away.

Wars do work.

But there is a trick to it.

You have to fight like you are going to destroy every thing in your path.

When the cost to the enemy reaches a certain point, you win.

And you set an example to others that messing with you has bad results.

Ever since WWII, we have fought like little girls. Not the men on the front lines, but the weenies in DC.

Wars don’t work? In what way?

People die and stuff gets broke, lots of people get rich putting it back together again.

Seems to work just fine.

Might even be effective at stopping fascistic dictators from genocide as well.

Then again, maybe we should have let Hitler have his way.

Europe, Eastern Europe and South American have way to many languages. They could have been unified under one language, one monetary system, etc.

Heck, the world might have even invited Goose stepping and Duck walking as Olympic sports.

Take a gander at that. Oughtta Quack you up.

Fruit cake.

If had had my way after 911 bye bye Mecca. I had a cold cold heart after 911, and still believe it was the right thing to do.

WWII didn’t work. We ended up giving the commies nearly everything we fought Japs and Nazis for. Except for France, Holland, Belgium, etc. In Western Europe. But I don’t figure that to have been worth it.

The jackass claims we’ve only got four troublemakers — Zimbabwe, Cuba, North Korea, and Iran. Zimbabwe? It’s evident that Zimbabwe is only a threat to Zimbabweans, and that literally no one outside southern Africa gives a crap what happens there. Cuba? It’s a sitting duck, if the US had less to do, and real leadership, Castro would have been turned into a smear of protoplasm right after the USSR fell apart.

Thanks Olog-hai.

I have second thoughts. That whole republican experiment failed, as we now know. But even from the get-go the new central gubmint became more oppressive in many aspects than was the British.

In that respect, it was the Cold War that didn’t work. Of course, the Cold War was just a continuation of WWII essentially.

Don’t know how true it is, but the movie “Patton” had the titular general mentally preparing to go to war with the USSR, and even saying that it would have to be the next war that the USA would have to fight after Germany and Japan was beaten.

Zimbabwe and Cuba aren’t problems for the US. We don’t like seeing their people oppressed, but neither country is really a threat to us.

The problem with the Iranians and the Norks is that their leaders are arguably not rational, which means the whole idea of making peace by giving their people jobs is not really rational, either.

With the Norks in particular I’ve always wondered what the point of negotiations is. You know prior to the start of negotiations that they won’t keep any agreement you reach, so what’s the purpose of expending time and effort to reach one?

I don’t get it.

Zimbabwe’s a close ally with Red China. I’m shocked that Young even mentioned them, what with their anti-white policies. Cuba of course stayed no-touchee because of Red China (again). Seems like a big mistake empowering Red China, doesn’t it?

” - - - because wars don’t work.”

Well, UNDECLARED wars don’t work out as expected.

Lemme see now, was WW2 the last DECLARED War for the USA?
