New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced a bill in Congress on Friday to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which places term limits on the U.S. presidency.

The bill, which has been referred to committee, would allow Barack President Obama to become the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to seek a third term in office.

H.J. Res. 15 proposes “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.”

The 22nd Amendment would still apply to Obama as he came into office under it. Any repeal would apply to his successor.

Boehner should bring it up for a vote.

Why in the HELL isn’t he being tarred and feathered for bringing this drivel to the floor?? This country has serious problems and no one in Washington is doing anything! Vote them ALL OUT! I am so tired trying to explain to my twenty year old son why the country I grew up in no longer exists!

We already had one “El Presidente for Life” in America, it would be easy to see that becoming common in a few more years.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Amendments cannot be repealed by a bill, there has to be another Constitutional amendment to do it.

Rep. Serrano doesn't anyways. I'm pretty sure he's been introducing and reintroducing this bill his entire congressional career.

He introduced the same bill when GWB was in office.

You are correct. But I wouldn’t be surprised if enough states would ratify another amendment. I know people who were talking about what needed to be done to re-elect obama before he’d even been sworn in the first time.

Okay, so Biden gets elected president. Then after his first term decides not to run again. Can Obama come back? It’s more than two in a row he can’t do, right? Just asking.

The 22nd Amendment would still apply to Obama as he came into office under it. Any repeal would apply to his successor.

If Obama wants a third term, he'll get the Roberts court to OK it--perhaps by a ruling that the 22nd Amendment doesn't apply to blacks.

Hmmm...What universe do you reside in? Name a single instance in the past 4.5 years in which his majesty has ever deferred to the former laws of the U.S.

It has to be an Amendment to the Constitution.

It's two terms or 10 years.

If as Vice-President he completes less than half of a President's term, he's entitled to two full terms of his own. They don't have to be consecutive. Prior to the 22nd Amendment, only Grover Cleveland had two non-consecutive terms.
