Peter King promises House version of Manchin-Toomey by Tuesday
Hot Air ^ | 4-12-2013 | Ed Morrissey

Most people assumed that anything truly problematic in new gun-control legislation that comes out of the Senate would have little chance of getting through the House. Looks like we’ll get a chance to test that hypothesis sooner rather than later. Rep. Peter King (R-NY) told Politico today that he and Mike Thompson (D-CA) will introduce the House version of Manchin-Toomey by Tuesday at the latest:

"Reps. Peter King and Mike Thompson are planning to introduce a House version of the compromise on background checks for gun buyers on Monday or Tuesday, King told POLITICO exclusively on Friday.

“I will be introducing, along with Mike Thompson [D-Calif.], basically the House version of the Manchin-Toomey bill on Monday or Tuesday at the latest,” the New York Republican said, referencing the bipartisan agreement on background checks reached this week between Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.).

He said the legislation will “replicate” what was agreed to by those senators, a bipartisan deal that expands background checks for commercial gun purchases, including those made at gun shows."

Will this go anywhere in the House? King believes that it will draw “significant support among Republicans,” which if true means it should pass easily — assuming it gets out of committee. ....

I abandoned the Republican Party when they abandoned their principles (holding to the Constitution). Although I have been traditionally against a third party, I now see it could have substantial benefit if it can get enough members. In the meantime, we need to start recall procedures against our representatives in states that have recall procedure (and all should have this provision). It is clear that Congress is a runaway train at this time and we need to force it off the track.

On another issue, I believe immigration reform and the taking away of gun rights are a part of a larger plan. Our government has run the largest Ponzi Scheme in history and our programs are at the brink unless we have more people paying in (investors)through new and/or increased taxes or our population dies off earlier (is this the goal of Obamacare for treating the elderly?). In the event more investors are not found or that the “little old ladies” are not put down, the system will fail and riots will occur. Why Congress refuses to brace common sense ideas such as later age for collection of benefits or harder qualification criteria for government aid is beyond me. It's as if they want a collapse. We didn't elect them to be popular but to do what is right to maintain structure and opportunity in America. Sadly they have failed us and I have little faith in the Supreme Court, especially since it is stacked with liberals.

They don’t have to get it all at once.

*Stated another way, They know who you (individually) are, and they know where you live.

How’bout that?!

Peter King is no less of a traitor than Toomey and any other politician that works toward compromising the second amendment.

If tens of millions of People do not find a way to stand up against these bastards and decisively end this attack, we will most certainly lose our rights.....soon.

Imagine... if the number of folks that watch American Idol were to stand for their country, all at the same time, this garbage would come to an immediate halt.

Heard Peter King talking about gun control legislation on ABC This Week Sunday show a couple of weeks back. I was surprised how squishy he was. ABC This Week Transcript, March 31, 2013

........"KING: Let me say, I support the president's position on guns. So I'll say that.

Having said that, it's going to be very difficult to get very meaningful legislation through the congress.......

................KING: Is that -- again, a majority of Americans don't seem to want this type of legislation. And I support it. So I'm -- I am again, supporting legislation on gun trafficking, on background checks, assault weapons, all of that. But I just don't see the intensity building up. ..................

.................KING: And I support strict background checks. But the real opposition -- people don't want, for instance, exchanges among families being reported or among friends. Well, the fact is that's often where the criminal guns are handed down. So, again, it's a lot tougher. "............

King has a history of being anti-2nd Amendment. This actually comes of no surprise to me, unfortunately.

Every name of every politician who votes in favor of any gun control bill. Vote every one of them out of office regardless of political party or any other consideration.

The best visualization of “compromise” on gun rights I’ve ever heard.

This bill is worse than a ban on some specific models or types of guns. It trashes the 4th Amend., the 5th Amend. and the 10th Amend. as well as the 2nd Amend.

The Toomey-Manchin Kill The Bill of Rights Bill.

TITLE ONE: GETTING ALL THE NAMES OF PROHIBITED PURCHASERS INTO THE BACKGROUND CHECK SYSTEM

Summary of Title I: This section improves background checks for firearms by strengthening the instant check system.

- Encourage states to provide all their available records to NICS by restricting federal funds to states who do not comply.

By "all their available records" just what records are they blackmailing states for with that statist bilge water? "All" is a pretty big word when only a very few records are applicable to denying someone their right to keep and bear arms.

- Allow dealers to voluntarily use the NICS database to run background checks on their prospective employees.

Does that means dealers can run NICS checks on prospective employees without their knowledge or consent? I have no idea what the word 'voluntarily' means there. Does it mean dealers will be allowed to not run NICS checks if they prefer not to?

- Clarifies that submissions of mental health records into the NICS system are not prohibited by federal privacy laws (HIPAA).

Submissions of mental health records? Since when has it been legal to deny any American their rights without due process? Isn't it required that a person be adjudicated mentally deficient by a court of law to do that? Mental health records are entirely irrelevant except to those court proceedings. This bill sounds like Stalinist purge material.

- Provides a legal process for a veteran to contest his/her placement in NICS when there is no basis for barring the right to own a firearm.

Is that an admission that the Bill of Rights doesn't cover veterans or an admission that it doesn't cover anyone anymore?

Was all of this gun control demagoguery really just a Trojan Horse to sneak this Bill of Rights killer into law?

Looks like it has looooong been fermented on King’s minds.

>>> I support the president’s position on guns.

Does Rep King understand “the president’s position on guns”?

Truly? and he still supported it? That should say loudly about Rep King.

Sure seems like it, doesn't it? I wouldn't doubt it. NOTHING suprises me, anymore, with these traitors. This has gone way past beyond bizarro world.

No, to be totally serious, they are telling us that they intend to suspend the Constitution and take total control of the Government. If we don’t like it tough shit. We can comply or be killed. Our choice. Theyy may parse in in other terms, but that is what they mean. The Senate threw down the gaunlet yesterday.

It is obviously a bi-partisan scheme too. This is the coup d'etat on the Constitution. It ties together provisions of 0bamaCare, emasculates virtually all right to due process, sets precedents for heavy restrictions on free travel and solidifies the power of the Executive Branch by transferring the lion's share of what's left of Congressional authority to bureaucracies.
