Troubled South Africa Debates Impact of White Rule
AP ^ | April 12, 2013 | CHRISTOPHER TORCHIA

Few South Africans have the moral stature of retired archbishop Desmond Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who campaigned against apartheid and now laments the crime and inequality that plague the nation two decades after it cast off racist white rule.

"We can't pretend we have remained at the same heights and that's why I say please, for goodness' sake, recover the spirit that made us great," Tutu said. "Very simply, we are aware we've become one of the most violent societies. It's not what we were, even under apartheid."

not just a country I can’t even find one city run by all blacks which is doing great, Detroit is a prime example but of course pointing this out I must be racist [sigh and rolls eyes]

South Africa and Rhodesia now Zimbabwe used to the the best countries and well run in Africa, the media always moaned about white rule but then when blacks took over and blacks were racist towards whites and taking their lands houses, not allowed jobs in Govt then the left have no problem with that.

I could not careless if someone calls me a racist anymore, I;ve had the race card played on me just the other week off a half black guy who married a white woman , moved south to here from NY state, does not work, walk about in his underpants around the house he rents, and then calls the police when people go by the house he;s renting and looks at it or him.
He;s always looking for trouble, standing there staring at neighbors, the people over the road put their Romney sign up and he got an Obama sign the next day and he was the only one of two in this county saw who had an obama sign, he for Christmas got his black santa’s out in the front yard, has signs saying black power. and then some like him wonder why southerners want race bating, welfare layabouts to stay up north.
He told the cops that people are doing racial harassment because he;s black, married white woman and moved south to here.

Even the cop who came to my house told me he;s going round there to tell him to knock it off and stop wasting police time

Every nation in Africa has been destroyed by the blacks that lead them.

Tell it to the tens of thousands who have been murdered by and under Saint Mandela and his Holy Wife Winnie.

Oh wait! You can't! They got "necklaced."

It is about culture....One cannot choose their race, but they ultimately choose which culture to belong to

You are 100% correct.

Again, how a people want to conduct their internal affairs and order their society and economy is their own business.

Muslim treatment of women today is just as egregious all over the Middle and Far East as well. Shall we invade their countries and take control of the oil wells because “we can run it better?”

“We can run it better,” which ALWAYS translates to “we can make a lot of money,” is no justification for stealing land and resources and enslaving the native population.

You might argue that South Africans weren’t “enslaved” in that they couldn’t be bought and sold... officially. I would argue there’s precious little difference between serfdom — your rights are stripped away and delegated back by the King at his pleasure — and slavery.

How Americans can support theft and slavery in Africa in 2013 is beyond me.

Show me one nation ruled by blacks that is well-run and prosperous. Just......one. I won’t even go into the violence aspect.

Botswana is the only nation in Sub-Saharan Africa that I can think of that isn't a complete basket case. It's the exception that proves the rule though - unlike Zimbabwe or South Africa, the black government didn't make it a matter of policy to replace competent white technocrats with incompetent tribal cronies.

Blacks in Rhodesia were much better off back then too

Africans and other colonized third world people have a mindset where they would rather live under squalor and extreme oppression under one of their own than under comparative prosperity (albeit as second-class citizens) under "foreign" rule.

The irony is that the overwhelming of Zimbabwe blacks are just as much second class citizens under Mugabe as under Ian Smith's government, since most aren't Mugabe's cronies and many aren't members of his tribe. However, skin color trumps reason in "post-colonial" politics.

Still no facts. Just revisionistic theory and conjecture. As far as Muslims go, I’m not surprised you used them in an analogy since the liberals practically french kiss Sharia Law and you are doing your best trying not to be “outed.”

Consider changing your screen name to “Blue State/Red Ink”

Progressive shill alert!

“Still no facts.”

Just because you’re uncomfortable with what happened, you can’t describe the systematic invasion, subjugation and annexation of continental Africa by European countries as anything other than factual.

Whether it was good or bad or they’re better off or not is another question... but the sequence of events, the system of government, and the quasi-slave status of the subjugated people, enshrined in local courts with foreign judges and at sword and gunpoint are not points on which informed people disagree.

Are you suggesting, for example, that locals were permitted to own land in their own countries, such as South Africa? If so, you’re wrong.

In other words, everyone on this thread agrees what the “facts” were. What they mean is open to debate.

The facts remain that the Afrikaners built South Africa, therefore it is (was) their country. They made several big mistakes, they didn’t have control of their borders and for becoming dependent on Bantu tribes to provide cheap labor.

“Progressive shill alert!”

Refraining from Invading other countries, ruling them at gunpoint and stealing their resources is the epitome of a conservative foreign policy.

In your seventh grade history book it was called “non-interventionism.” You might want to refresh before you start name calling. You can verify it’s the policy advocated by George Washington while you’re at it.

The Afrikaners have been in SA as long as Europeans have been in North America.

Referring to them as “foreigners” is ridiculous.

If anything, Afrikaners had more of a right to their land than White Americans. When Afrikaners arrived, the only humans in the Cape were a bunch of nomadic Bushmen tribes. In America, we slaughtered millions of Indians to seize our territory.

They're so much better off now. Since you obviously believe that blacks are inferior.

What a ridiculous thing to say. What did I say that led you to claim that "they're better off now" and that "blacks are inferior"?

Your comment is one of the most wildly ignorant I've encountered in my decade and more on FR.

Indeed. Many people forget that both the Xhosa tribe (to which Mandela and most ANC members) and their rival Zulus are comparatively recent immigrants to what is today the South African state.

A majority of Xhosa and Zulus tribes arrived in what’s now South Africa between 1850 - 1900. The Afrikaners have been there since 1652, almost two hundred years before.
