Remington Sells Out To NY For $80 Million “Sniper” Rifles Government Contract

Back in February, several gun manufacturers decided to boycott law enforcement in states that are hostile to the Second Amendment, states like New York for instance. They would not be providing weapons or ammunition. Within a week that number had grown by over 700%. In the first article I provided information for several gun manufacturers that could be contacted to come on board with this boycott, including Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson and Remington. Well, now we know where Remington stands. They stand on the side of government as they have let it be known that they will be staying in New York and they have now acquired a government contract worth $80 million.

My 6th Great grandfather was a Regulator who publicly opposed the corruption of an English governor and his agents.

He may have been killed in the battle of May 16, 1771 by the troops of the same corrupt English governor

He may have been one of those who had his only firearm confiscated by the troops of the English governor after the battle.

He may have been one of those Regulators who were sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered, although they were only hanged on June 19, 1771 by the English governor

Almost 250 years later I peacefully chose not to further finance the Remington Firearms Corruption of 2013 with my dollars. In addition I will advise and encourage others to do the same

.

Freedom Group, Inc owns Remington, Marlin, Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms, L.C. Smith, Parker, Bushmaster, DPMS/Panther Arms, Dakota Arms, EOTAC, and INTC.

Well, it appears that Cuomo and the Democrats pressured Obama to give the government contract to Remington to keep the taxes paid by Remington and the union jobs. So much for the story in the NY Post below.

Cuomo may be outgunned on Remington jobs

New York could be in for a shootout as rival states try to lure away an upstate gunmaker - and its 1,300 union jobs - in the wake of Gov. Cuomo’s (far right) new gun-control law.

Politicians from pro-gun states like Arizona, South Carolina, Texas, Michigan and Oklahoma have open arms for Remington Arms.

“The leaders in New York state have all but told you that your business, your job creation and your contributions are no longer welcome,” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) wrote to Remington CEO George Kollitides.

Officials at the 197-year-old operation in upstate Ilion are “keeping their options open,” said state Sen. James Seward (R- Oneonta).

The union representing Remington workers said the gun maker leaving “non-business-friendly” New York is a “very scary” possibility. “The economic impact would be devastating to the Mohawk Valley and surrounding communities,” United Mine Workers Local 717 wrote to lawmakers.

Remington - maker of the Bushmaster rifle model used in last December’s Newtown, Conn., elementary-school massacre - took $5.5 million in subsidies from New York between 2007 and 2009 .

Company officials declined comment.

You realize the contract in question was military and not with the State of New York, don’t you?

and do you realize that same federal govt is trying to strip your rights?

Are you going to cease dealing with them as you demand Remington Arms do? How does that work, for an individual let alone a gun manufacturer that has supplied weapons to the military for quite some time? You’d have to expatriate and give up citizenship. They’d have to shut down or go offshore, removing their products from the US market in the process. You’ve gone way overboard here.

I sympathize and understand.

I had ancestors who received similar treatment more recently during Reconstruction. One was caught and hanged for resisting the outside occupation. One had his home burned and the rest went GTT, like many at that time.

Evil corrupt times.

One of my ancestors was born here during the Republic of Texas. Love of independence and freedom runs deep in our veins.

Who owns Freedom Group?

Back in my gun owning days I too, like millions of others, owned a Remington hunting rifle. It didn’t cost me millions of dollars either.

Obviously, the technology of then is not the technology of now. There are MANY exceptional rifles that can out shoot an old Remington hunting rifle. Today’s technological gun manufacturers produce rifles that can shoot beyond 1000+ yards with EXTREME accuracy. Remington is on that list of manufacturers. (Yes, it takes a good shooter to achieve the end results).

The article only states the cost of the rifles to be produced/sold to the gubmint, NOT the kind/type/technology of the rifles themselves, nor does it state WHERE these rifles are to be sent/used.

Before we “fire” 9quit buying) Remington, we need to get ALL the facts.

Well, what a coincidence. Your 6th great grandfather likely knew my 4th great grandfather, who was kidnapped out of Town Fork settlement along with his mother by what we assume to have been her people, Cherokee, otherwise they’d have merely been killed. They were taken to the Cherokee town on the Dan River. His father sought the aid of the militia under Hugh Waddell and received it, but was killed trying to retrieve them. His mother was never seen again.

He was orphaned and as such was bound out by the Court of Pleas and Quarters in Salisbury to a man of prominence in the area, Benjamin Merrell, who became a leader of the Regulators and who was without a doubt hung and worse after Alamance.

If you’ve researched the matter and read the history, regardless of where your sympathies pertaining to this pre-Revolutionary War clash lie (and it’s clear where mine lie), it’s difficult to come away with any impression other than that it is very unwise to go off half-cocked and unprepared to deal with the response you’ve provoked, no matter how right your cause.

The bulk of the Regulators were scattered abroad afterwards, most heading further into the backcountry, into and beyond the Blue Ridge, to the Wautauga settlement, to the part of NC that was ceded to create TN after the war. They didn’t forget, though. When provoked by Ferguson who threatened to come after them yet again and burn them out, they returned, much better organized, to Kings Mountain. They comprised a majority of the OverMountain Men who were instrumental in defeating British forces there.

Remember that.

UTICA, N.Y. – U.S. Representative Richard Hanna today announced that Remington Arms has been awarded a nearly $80 million contract to produce more than 5,000 sniper rifles for the U.S. military. The work will be done in Ilion by Mohawk Valley employees.

First paragraph of the anouncement...hmmmmmm...

For the U.S. MILITARY!!!

The way I look at this is I am glad I own a Remington rifle...It is one of my best...

If it is good enough for the military, and those that specifically use it, then I am glad they have them...

I know it is easy these days to get caught up in the wave of government frustration, that is only added when things are misinterpreted in a manner to incite, and not get folks to think through something before actually reading a piece of news...

I believe the author misled his readership, and needs to clarify, whatever their intention was, and get back on track...

We sure do need people in the media to be a little sharper than the average liberal supporting reporter/journalist these days...But it is getting harder and harder to do...

I was going to get a new Marlin, but I understand they are now made by Remington. Very disappointing to hear that Remington are due for boycott.

So it appears that Remington will be staying in New York, and that is the real issue. New York will get revenues out of the deal, along with a public relations coup against the Second Amendment.

Boycott? Is there not enough like-minded individuals that can pull resources and blueprints and hold ‘gunsmith sessions’ in their garage(s)?

5+ folks making their own tools from the raw materials, then helping others to broaden the base.

Hell, there’s a whole new area of 3D printing. You can’t tell me prototype in 3D (get the model down pat) and use the same in a CNC mill?

No BATF, no FBI, no serial numbers, no tracking. Hell, I’d plunk down a few $k, and eat ramen for a bit, to get into a group like that for my own custom piece.

It's highly likely that Remington continues to sell to law enforcement, but the following is the more relevant issue.

Remington Has No Plans to Leave New York
GUNS.Com ^ | Apr. 11, 2013 | Max Slowik

"Remington has made their intentions to stay in the state of New York clear in a recent meeting with state lawmakers, in spite of the passage of the SAFE act, the highly controversial gun control package that has already started to come undone."
