Boston official: Video footage shows bomb suspect

BOSTON (AP) -- In what could be major break in the Boston Marathon case, investigators are on the hunt for a man seen in a department store surveillance video dropping off a bag at the site of the bombings, a local politician said Wednesday.

Separately, a law enforcement official confirmed that authorities have found an image of a potential suspect but don't know his name.

The development - less than 48 hours after the attack, which left three people dead and more than 170 wounded - marked a possible turning point in a case that has investigators analyzing photos and videos frame by frame for clues to who carried out the twin bombings and why.

City Council President Stephen Murphy, who said he was briefed by Boston police, said investigators saw the image on surveillance footage they got from a department store near the finish line and matched the findings with witness descriptions of someone leaving the scene.

In the picture I posted, there is a little blue box with a pause symbol and then a time stamp that says 0:08:24. There is a man’s head just beneath the pause symbol. I was referring to this man. I’m not smart enough to enlarge the thing. :-)

yeah, but, there are according to reports, lots and lots of web cams in that area.....it seems reasonable that whoever left the bag would have been recorded...

okay folks....where was the first bomb placed?....and the second?....I know a I saw a pic of a backpack/bag near a mailbox and I’ve also read that one bomb was up against a wall.....

Was going to go FreepMail with this comment but with what am thinking am only modifying slightly. The media and probably I too have made some mistakes. The media has definitely made some mistakes. It may be by design. My posts are not by design. This has been horrific for the families affected by this attack. My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, the victims’ families, friends and each of us in our nation. When this all shakes out in the investigation if the media will simply back away for a while, it may go in a number of different ways. I do not know America or Americans will received the pure unadulterated truth. I have my doubts. That is not to say LE is not doing a bang up job. I believe LE is as competent as can be. Should there be failures or mistakes in the mix, then it will be because as a rule mistakes are made. One simply should remember this day of the news cycle, one which (of course) our media would prefer everyone forget.

That is EXACTLY what I am saying.

Remember, the NSA and others have excellent facial recognition software. They have access to all drivers license photos. What people are taking hours to do on the internet, they can do in minutes.

So you've identified a dozen or so “persons of interest.” Yet your preliminary investigations seems to leave every one of them cleared. You're pretty sure the guilty one(s) are in this group. What to do?

Spook ‘em. Tell the press you've got them, tell the press an arrest is imminent. The innocent parties will think nothing of it. The one(s) that run are probably guilty.

While it is creating a lot of confusion, I think it is pretty smart.
