Coulter To Geraldo: Should've Police Surveillance In Every Mosque—‘It’s Not A Private Relationship’
Mediaite ^ | April 23, 2013 | Andrew Kirell

Appearing on Geraldo Rivera‘s radio show Monday afternoon, conservative columnist Ann Coulter proposed surveillance in every American mosque as a means to giving law enforcement an extra eye in such religious institutions.

Agreeing with co-panelist Alan Dershowitz‘s suggestion that “surveillance is a very good thing” and that “we should learn to live with video cameras” because a mosque, church, or synagogue are “not a private place,” Coulter told Rivera:

“I have long disagreed with my libertarian friends on this. It’s not difficult to explain: Any place a cop can be, or an undercover cop — standing, watching, and observing — you should be able to have a camera. We see how incredibly useful this was, the various cameras out at the Boston Marathon. As Alan says, we’re not talking about invading a private relationship — You wouldn’t be talking to your shrink with an undercover cop standing there; you wouldn’t be in the ladies’ room with an undercover cop standing there.”

But, see, that’s the thing: a mosque is a private institution. The Lord & Taylor surveillance camera that at least partially helped identify the Boston suspects was installed by a private business that decided to install the cameras for security reasons. If a mosque or church or synagogue decide to install cameras for their own security’s sake, then fine — as private institutions, they have the right to do so and their members can choose not to attend if they don’t like the tape rolling.

But private institutions also have the right not to install cameras, and so the two Geraldo guests’ proposal rings ever-so-slightly in the direction of mandating that surveillance be installed where necessary.....

Those who are willing to give up some of their freedom so that they will be safe, will eventually have neither their freedom nor will they be safe.

I have disliked Ann ever since she viscerally attacked conservatives who would not support Romney during the Republican primary in 2012.

Now I have another reason I dislike her.

If, she wants her freedom infringed upon to be safe, Ok. Let her allow video cameras in her home and the place she worships, but do NOT suggest that I allow the same infringement upon my life.

I will take my chances with the means I have depended upon all my life, and it does not include the government watching me 24/7.

i think she was trying to take a liberals’ proposal and get them to reject their own idea because of who the cameras were pointing at.

of course alan and her know what a private place’s rights are. alan didn’t care floating out his idea about expanding surveillance to a degree we may not be comfortable with, we’ll just have to live with it. ann just took the idea to a group alan never would have thought to include under this increased surveillance. because of the pc-ness bs.

Wow.

Forget the cameras on every Mosque. Put them in every college classroom where the “hate America” crowd breeds...and on the Professors who teach it!

If they have probable cause, get a judge-signed warrant and plant a surveillance device, as required by the 4th amendment.
We can’t special plead one right and disregard another. Having said that, Islam is like the Mafia. Getting a warrant shouldn’t be too hard.

Wrong, she specifically said that she has long disagreed with her libertarian friends on this. She stated that if a cop can be there, then so should a camera be allowed.

Read the transcripts again, and you will see her supporting the idea of a police state via cameras in house of worship.

there should be a camera in every classroom, because nothing that happens in school should be a secret from the parents of those kids

Why comment? We all see through the pander-to-conservatives trick already.

I’m beginning to think neo-cons are just as much a threat to our Constitutional rights as the liberals.

So-called “neocons” are liberals. They jumped on the bandwagon during the beginnings of the conservative backlash, and then totally undermined it, setting things back down the dark liberal path.

Remember Irving Kristol’s old saw about the neoconservative being a so-called “liberal who has been mugged by reality”? Turns out that the liberals in question only sought to manipulate reality to their own liberal ends after all, by riding the coattails of real conservatives. (Kristol was, and most likely died as, a Trotskyist; he was one of the foremost members of the New York Intellectuals at one time.)

I retired from the NY State Dept. of Correctional Services in 2003. Back then, no uniformed staff was allowed into the room that served as their mosque while Jumah services were being held. I'm assuming it's still the same way. Since inmates are given the right to privacy during their religious services behind bars, I doubt Ann's recommendations would ever pass muster for religious institutions outside prison walls.

Ann has definitely gone off the deep end.

The French have been bugging and infiltrating Mosques since the subway bombings in the 90’s. It seems to work. I don’t recall any large scale terrorist operation since. Like I’ve always said, the French don’t put terrorist in jail they put them under the jail. Or under ground.

Didn’t see the interview. By the face of this article, it would seem Ann has lost her mind. On the other hand, Ann can be dry, sarcastic and wise as a sage. Something libs miss everytime, she speaks/writes/walks/breathes. So...

Coulter is an opportunist piece of garbage. She has a couple of brain cells she uses to put sentences together.

I sooooo wish many here on FR would wake up and see Ann for what she is. A lying, opportunist.

And PLEASE let us stop with the Coulter is beautiful/sexy crap. She is a blond (bottle) haired skinny woman.
Her face is ugly and she has the body of a bony boy.

My goodness! Are some men so blind and dumb they can’t see past hair color?
And no, I’m not jealous, I just have eyes.
