I suspect the Senators know that the only thing worse, politically, than supporting the original bill is flipping on it.
I suspect that they do know that and won’t support something that the NRA opposes.

It is not any “bi-partisan” group of senators. They are all statists. There is no disagreement among them. They all desire total government and no opposition from the subjects. Calling them Republicans and Democrats is like differentiating them by their first names or by whether or not they are bald or left-handed.
Sounds like a great opportunity for a COUNTER-PROTEST.
Of course, in my state of Konnecticut, all of my Federal legislators are Obama-pawns........

I have had it with Pat Toomey. Hoped for years for him to finally get elected to the Senate from PA. WHAT a FREAKING DISAPPOINTMENT he has been. He must be primaried OUT! First, they are identifying senators who might be willing to change their votes and support a background check system with fewer loopholes. .................................................... Wheeeeew, does this stink of dirty $$$$$$$$$$ or what? Gotta be a lot $$$$$ future campaign $$$$ here for those who cooperate?

Ignorant approval is not impressive. Most probably have no clue what the ramifications of such a system would be to their liberties.
Many people are in favor of background checks, but the devil is in the details.
Most who favor such checks do not realize the language of such bills will give the government the POWER to declare the people to be criminals in their own homes.
But then the pollsters never tell you that when they ask “Do you favor the background check bill before Congress now?”
Obama must really be throwing a hissy fit. I can imagine the threats that he is making against the 4 senators who helped defeat the bill. Harry Reid is probably drinking Mylanta by the gallon.
But at least they have good ol’ dependable John McCain and Lindsey Graham to back them up by added to the pressure.
