For the umpteenth time — yes, a shotgun is a very solid choice for in-home self-defense, but for goodness’ sake, stop trying to discount AR-15s and their ilk as an defense option because of your eagerness to discredit its possible uses and classify it as an “assualt” weapon. What a criminal can assault a law-abiding citizen with, a law-abiding citizen can just as easily deter and defend against criminals.
Says the President who banned my Benelli shotgun in 1994 because it has a pistol grip and was therefore an 'assault shotgun' even though it was no different than the same model without the pistol grip which wasn't banned.

Shotguns and body armor.
I’m no firearms expert, but I would bet a significant sum that 12 ga slugs or buckshot will blast right through standard body armor, at least at close range such as inside a house.

I’ll choose what weapon to shoot an invader with.
It’ll be .45 JHP 230 grain by Hornady until I run out and then I’ll switch the shotgun, with slugs.
Was googling around about slugs and vests. Ran across one comment I though interesting.
The slug won’t penetrate, but it will make the front of the best contact the back of the vest.
No idea if that’s true, but given the sheer energy release from a slug or 00 at close range, I don’t think anybody hit in a vest is going to be good for much for a while, whether the rounds penetrate or not. Rough equivalent of getting hit by a car.

Women prefer .410 and 20-gauge shotguns because others have too much kick. But for men, why limit them to shotguns when a pistol or carbine is really better?
