When the M1911 arrived...in 1911...it was probably an immediate hit with military and law enforcement...and probably also labeled an assault weapon on day one of production. We’ve come a long way.

Some years ago, I ran across a piece written by Will Rogers, wherein he went off on semi auto handguns and gave some oddly stilted praise for the badmen of yore because they used old-fashioned revolvers. I recall reading it and thinking, "What is this crap all about?"
