Steyn warns of ‘serious secession movements’ if drift toward socialism not reversed

Radio host Dennis Miller and National Review columnist Mark Steyn considered Thursday the possible outcomes if the United States continues down the path of socialism.

If socialism became the prevailing governing philosophy, Miller speculated, escaping it wouldn’t require a move to the Australian outback. Instead he suggested heading for the state of Texas, because it would be the first place to push back against it.

“If I ever do flee, don’t think fleeing has to involve you going over to Alice Springs or something,” Miller said. “I’m going to Texas because that’ll be the first place that pushes back. They’re not going down the tubes with this country if this country decides to go down the tubes. I really think I’d head for Texas.”

Steyn, author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” took it even further and said that the pushback could go beyond just Texas, because he was doubtful the entire country would go along with it.

If you're looking for conservative go small ,the big cities are afflicted with the same problems as any other big city....minorities with their hands out and crime. DFW is better than some others although stay with the suburbs. My personal opinion is that Ft Worth is more desirable than Dallas!!! I've never lived in Ft Worth but I have spend a number of years in Dallas!!

No. not real secession ... yet. Virtual secession. States and individuals should just stop complying to unconstitutional demands by the feds. This is 2013 not the 1860s. Guerilla warfare not conventional.

Rise of the Republican Governors - A new liberal era? Not according to these reformers.

Since Obama first took office in 2008, Republicans have picked up a net nine governorships, bringing their total to 30 states, which hold nearly 184 million Americans. In 24 of those states, containing 157 million Americans, Republicans also control the legislatures. Democrats boast similar power in just 12 states, with a population of 100 million.

I can see massive civil disobedience. Let the rats start the violence. They are concentrated in cities. It won't be long before they're thirsty and hungry.

Watch out for the confiscatory “Exit Tax.”

Yep. You have to pay to leave.

“It would appear at times when civil war might be inevitable,” Miller replied. “Why don’t we get together right now and agree to do it by paintball so nobody gets hurt.

Millers's right.

No one needs to be hurt. Think amicable divorce ... Liberals hate us - and we're not too fond of them anymore either. So let's have two different countries. One liberal - one conservative.

Why would liberals 'go' for this? What will they get? A lot. Liberals can 'have it all' in their liberal United States - any living things in any numbers can marry - borders can be open and available to ALL third world hellholes, Health care will be granted based on 'who you know and what party you belong to'...

Every city in "liberal United States' can be Detroit. Ninety percent of their citizens can collect disability and the other 10% can be in job training programs... with third world 'citizens' doing the work liberals don't want to do... It's every liberals's dream.

Why would liberals object to splitting the country into two equal parts? It's such a wonderful unicorn solution... Let's open the pathways to them - and start the talk... divorce.. whatever..

People complain about the 17th Amendment. My MIL hates the 19th Amendment. She’d gladly give up her right to vote as a woman, since it would mean defeat for Democrats across the nation.

Spot on, cut welfare and they’ll flee like rats. That’s why the nationalization of welfare benefits is so bad. It destroys federalism and stops states from competing in the realm of ideas/politics.

That was the intent of the Founders, not just to create tension between the 3 branches of federal government, but between the states and the federal government as well as between the states themselves.

“I’m going to Texas because that’ll be the first place that pushes back. They’re not going down the tubes with this country if this country decides to go down the tubes. I really think I’d head for Texas.”

Didn't Davy Crockett say essentially the same thing but in fewer words when he left Tennessee and headed for ... The Alamo? "You can all go to HELL and I shall go to Texas."

Yes, I remember reading about Soviet political prisoners who found a way to resist by overwhelming the system by going overboard on following its rules and overwhelming the bureaucracy.

That’s what everyone should do regarding race. Everyone should claim to be a minority and tell anyone who disagrees to prove it. It will cease to have meaning in a short time.

Let the junior Senator from the great state of Massachusettes show us the way.
