The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
No flag just a bike for a lapel pin. WTF
Not going to happen anytime soon though..that is the reality. This abuse of power is where it is at right now. Abolishment of IRS will only come if at all under new republican majorities.
Has anyone asked Miller why he resigned?
Dem Congressman begins by praising vast majority of hard-working IRS employees — DRINK!
What in the world is that bike doing on his lapel?
Who will be first to ask, “What did Obama know, and when did he know it?”
They also leaked the names of the donors. Romney was one of the names on their donor list.
Unfreakingbelievable. Mr bicycle calling for IRS expansion.
I’ve been watching these types of committee hearings for many years. After Miller’s response that it is legal for the IRS to ask basically anything of a citizen that they want to I found myself yelling at the computer screen, middle finger extended, saying “F” you.
This is sickening to me, it is time to abolish the IRS.
Rep. Bicycle says IRS hasn’t been funded properly..hahahahahahahahahahaha!
Yes, he said the buck stops with me, it was on my watch.
Dem...we don’t give IRS enough money...whaaaAA
Well perhaps the IRS should stop spending so much money stockpiling hollow point bullets and guns.
My question: Will he be unemployed -or is he moving on to another job in Governemnt?
Portland critter..it figures
Is this jerk trying to say that cutting funds are the reason this happened???? If the IRS did their job and were not running interference for the obama campaign they wouldn’t need so much money
“Unfreakingbelievable. Mr bicycle calling for IRS expansion”
Of course...Obamacare will be under their “care”.
He said he accepted the IG report in its entirety and then he quickly followed that by saying that he did not agree with the findings of the IG that groups were targeted for additional scrutiny.
Now some asshat wearing a bicycle broach and a clown tie is giving the excuse that it was because there was not enough money. Bullspit of course.
“Rep. Bicycle”, LOL
I see now he represents Oregon.
yes-we want to read miller’s reflections-—geez—what a maroon
