Schieffer to Obama Advisor: ‘Why Are You Here? Why Isn’t the White House Chief of Staff Here?’ By Noel Sheppard Created 05/19/2013 - 1:23pm
As NewsBusters reported two weeks ago, CBS’s Bob Schieffer is fed up with the White House’s talking points concerning what happened at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last September.
His impatience continued on Sunday's Face the Nation when Obama senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer gave stock answers to questions about the three crises facing the President leading Schieffer to first accuse his guest of taking "exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took" and finally scolding him by asking, "Why are you here today? Why isn't the White House Chief of Staff here to tell us what happened?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
DAN PFEIFFER, SENIOR WHITE HOUSE ADVISOR: The point that our Chief of Staff is making is that this is the Republican playbook here which is try, when they don't have a positive agenda, try to drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped up hearings and false allegations. We're not going to let that distract us and the President from actually doing the people's work and fighting for the middle class.
BOB SCHIEFFER, HOST: You know, I don’t want to compare this in any way to Watergate. I do not think this is Watergate by any stretch. But you weren't born then I would guess, but I have to tell you that is exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took. They said, “These are all second-rate things. We don't have time for this. We have to devote our time to the people's business.” You’re taking exactly the same line they did.
After Pfeiffer continued with evasive talking points, Schieffer again scolded:
SCHIEFFER: But Mr. Pfeiffer, and I don't mean to be argumentative here, but the President is in charge of the executive branch of the government. It’s my, I'll just make this as an assertion: when the executive branch does things right, there doesn't seem to be any hesitancy of the White House to take credit for that. When Osama bin Laden was killed, the President didn't waste any time getting out there and telling people about it.
But with all of these things, when these things happen, you seem to send out officials many times who don't even seem to know what has happened. And I use as an example of that Susan Rice who had no connection whatsoever to the events that took place in Benghazi, and yet she was sent out, appeared on this broadcast, and other Sunday broadcasts, five days after it happens, and I'm not here to get in an argument with you about who changed which word in the talking points and all that. The bottom line is what she told the American people that day bore no resemblance to what had happened on the ground in an incident where four Americans were killed.
Pfeiffer once again stuck with the Administration line leading Schieffer to further push back:
But what I'm saying to you is that was just PR. That was just a PR plan to send out somebody who didn't know anything about what had happened. Why did you do that? Why didn't the Secretary of State come and tell us what they knew and if he knew nothing say, “We don't know yet?” Why didn't the White House Chief of Staff come out? I mean I would, and I mean this as no disrespect to you, why are you here today? Why isn't the White House Chief of Staff here to tell us what happened?

It's pretty obvious that one of the senior members of the press corps is getting tired of the way this Administration evades serious issues. Let's hope more jump on this bandwagon.

I heard Paul Ryan today on Fox News..he was asked by Chris Wallace if he thinks that Obama lied to the American people about Benghazi and Ryan said “Im not sure.” SERIOUSLY, your not sure..COME ON..I could destroy Obama with a few simple questions, no need to rehearse, no need to practice..just me and him in a room asking a few simple questions..like here’s one, according to Sean Smith’s mother BOTH Hillary Clinton and Obama told her that this was caused by the video, ask them about THAT

If Greta Van Susteren of Fox News had said the exact same words, in the same interview, everyone on this thread would be cheering her on.

Greta wouldn’t fill her questions with caveats about “not trying to be argumentative” and the like. Schieffer is a hack and a few tough questions on one day doesn’t make up for that.

Paul Ryan & Marco Rubio have been big disappointments. Add Rand Paul to that list. To my shock & horror I heard him late last wk on the Howie Carr show expressing support for the Amnesty bill. Oh he mumbled & burbled about some amendment he was proposing. He never said or implied, however, that if his amendment is shot down [as it will be] he wd cease to support the Amnesty bill. It was revolting.

Bob Schieffer wans’t drinking kool aid with this interview. He was sticking it to the Democrats. He might lose his job over it.
Scheeffer basically said it stunk of Watergate - and he’s right. It does. Why would Schieffer calling this a Watergate look-alike bother so many on this thread? Seems very odd.

I liked the pressure he applied, but his insistence that the POTUS appearing to allow 4 Americans die for no good reason is not as bad as an office break-in is just pathetic pandering.
He didn’t have to say anything like that; he could’ve even intimated that they were at least equal. Instead he went out of his way to insist Watergate was much worse.

There really is little chance of any serious criminal prosecution because that's just not the way things work in Washington.
The best that can be expected to expose as much as possible and to document a cover up.
They are doing a good job so far.
The big issue is going to get to the bottom of exactly what Obama and Clinton were up to in Libya that the Embassy attack would have exposed.

It is so bad they are willing to use the most transparent and insulting cover up in American political history to keep a lid on the Benghazi Story and to keep Benghazi controversy about whether or not Obama called it a terrorist act and other inane irrelevancies.
Since at least one of the scams that Obama and Clinton were almost certainly running in Libya was the willful and knowing transferring and arming of Al Qaeda terrorists by the Obama Administration with advanced Anti Aircraft missiles and other sophisticated and devastating advanced weapons, it understandable they are desperate to cover this story up.
We are at war with Al Qaeda and arming Al Qaeda with the Terrorists ultimate dream weapons does not come into the heading of impeachment, it comes under the heading of Treason and can be punishable by jail or even hanging.
It's so bad that the Obama Administration is so desperate the are willing to dump at least three other major Scandals which are possibly the worst abuses of power in modern times by Government officials, on the country as a distraction from Benghazi and to task saturate investigators.
