It’s like Jack Nicholson giving the speech in A Few Good Men and then trying to walk out of the court room.

If you are a RAT in the present administration you can do just about anything.

I’m not a lawyer, but I agree with Gowdy. Issa blew it. He should have kept Lerner there all day and made he take the Fifth on every question. WTF is wrong with that guy?

The House needs to start issuing subpoenas.

"She ought to stand here and answer our questions," said Gowdy

And if she answered every one of those questions with "I refuse to answer on the grounds it might incriminate me" then what?

She did testify. She said that she did nothing wrong. She will not answer any questions, but she will testify that she did nothing illegal.

IMHO, the reason she first touted her innocence, then took the 5th, was because all she did was follow orders from above. She didn’t want to have to dime out the people above that gave the orders to harass conservative groups because it would ultimately lead to Obama and her life would become unbearable.

Then you have generated audio clips which can be put on youtube and circulated on the web.

Perhaps it should be Mr. Gowdy’s committee since Mr. Issa is a n00b.

Then the public would see that their government is hiding the truth about a great many things. Laws are being broken by the government — and they won’t tell you about it.

Sounds like congress got played for the fool by the Obama administration once again.

They allowed this corrupt official to give a self serving speech and then let her walk out on them when she pleaded the fifth ammendment.

IMHO they should have made her sit there and plead the 5th to every question. Then follow up by asking her to provide any related information on other administration officials that would not be self incriminating for her.

There is no doubt that she has information on the actions and conduct of others that would not be protected by the fifth ammendment.

She got away with it, so that is how it works.

He dismissed her, subject to recall, so they could get a legal ruling, in essence, to force her into testifying. She claimed she did nothing "wrong", then took the 5th. Think about it, she was just following orders from above - ergo, she did nothing "wrong". But if she didn't take the 5th, she would be asked who gave the orders and then her jeopardy would kick in - Chicago style.

Question for White House press secretary: How is it that when the official story was that targeting conservative and Jewish groups was “just a couple of rogue employees in Cincinnati” that a Washington based IRS head needs to plead the fifth amendment rather than testify before Congress?

The a court would be asked to compel the witness to answer or suffer to penalties for contempt. The right against self incrimination does not allow a witness to testify on her own behalf and then refuse to testify on cross examination.

I believe Issa is merely a thief and a thug. Not much else.

A shady character in my view. His record indicates the possibility of taking economies with the truth himself.

Q: Is it true, Ms Lerner, that you were merely following orders you received from the White House?
A: I refuse to answer....

Q: Is it true, Ms Lerner, that the President himself ordered you to persecute groups that included the word “Patriot” in their names?
A: I refuse to answer...

Q: Is it true, Ms Lerner, that you received substantial cash payments from George Soros for accelerating the approval of political groups that he created?
A: I refuse to answer...

Second question for White House press secretary: The official line is that nothing illegal occurred at the IRS. Why is it necessary to plead the fifth amendment in order to protect legal activities?
