One of the things that is fun about forums such as Free Republic is the sheer volume and scale of topics discussed. Everything from discussions of GOP primary races (come BACK, Sarah!) to speculations on the Middle East, from Kim Jong-un to fitness resolutions for the New Year, from Naughty Teacher threads to black helicopter speculations. If the Internet is a microcosm of the real world, then Free Republic is a microcosm of the internet. And all helpfully sorted by keyword, date, and author in order to make drinking from the fire hose easier. But of course, not is all...

LOUSY FREEPER TROLL!!! How many times have we heard that over the past 7+ years that we have been monitoring DUmmieland? Many! We have planted plenty of moles in the DUmp to egg the DUmmies on and to expose their nuttiness. Well, the New DUmmieland ain't puttin' up with it anymore! With characteristic panache and aplomb, Assistant Head DUmmie EarlG, aka DUAC Earl, has rolled out a brand-new Troll Patrol to catch and dispatch the nasty intruders. He's calling it the "MIR Team," the "Malicious Intruder Removal Team." I call it the "MIR Spaced-out Station," in other words, a...

Ramblers and climbers have been banned from one of Dartmoor's most historic sites. The beautiful Vixen Tor has been closed off for good after landowner Mary Alford won an eight-year battle to keep walkers off her land. Her victory comes after a fight which included two planning inquiries and a series of mass trespasses to protest against the Tor's closure.

The word “troll” no longer conjures up a dumpy little plastic figure with brightly coloured hair: nor a monster from The Lord of the Rings. If you live even a part of your life online, you’ll know that trolls today are better known as the angry and usually anonymous commenters on web forums, whose aim is to shock, offend, annoy or upset fellow users. Trolling made headlines this week when Sean Duffy, a young man from Reading, was given 18 weeks’ imprisonment for defacing Facebook tributes to four dead teenagers whom he had never met. The abuse was vile: on...

The same people who say I shouldn't impose my morality on them, are imposing immorality on me and my children to the point that I literally have a hard time even leaving my home anymore to do something as simple as visit the park. And this is freedom? I am a Catholic stay-at-home mother of seven, and I live in the state of Massachusetts where "gay marriage" has been legal for seven years and it's just one aspect of the larger secular agenda. Because we have so many little children, it takes a phenomenal effort to go anywhere. We have...

So I'm at the local sports big box store and a clerk from the gun counter tells me that the government has chemist working on ammunition that will only have a 5 month shelf life. I tell him I never heard of this. He tells me to look it up. So I went home and I did. All I could find on the internet were rumors, nothing solid.I ask a fellow I know who works in the sporting section at Walmart about this. He told me he has had several people ask him if our ammo is the kind with...

A careful audit of combat support and reconstruction contracts reveals that at least $360 million in US tax dollars has gone to fund the Taliban and terrorist operations in Afghanistan. Corrupt contractors and subcontractors are responsible for the diversion of funds which have surely resulted in harm to soldiers and civilians throughout the region. LOS ANGELES (Catholic Online) - The losses demonstrate one of the challenges the US faces in Afghanistan, specifically, rampant corruption. Private Afghan corporations are providing many support services to the US and NATO forces and are collecting payments from the military for their services. However, the...

Rick Perry was a Democrat until Karl Rove convinced him to switch parties and run as a Republican against Jim Hightower for Agriculture Commissioner. Perry is always mentioning Reagan... But no Yellow-Dog Texas Democrat who was a chairman for Al Gore in 1988 would have voted for Reagan. Some Democrats would have... but not a leading member of the Texas party. Perry is just too slick. He is not conservative at all.

Late last week, the New York State Senate voted to legalize homosexual marriage, giving equality with heterosexual marriage, the foundational unit of every single human society in the last 5,000 years of recorded history. This is an enormous victory for the gay rights movement and for the American left. Like most of the left's victories in recent years, it could not have happened without the support of the Republican Party (which controls the New York State Senate). Republican fingerprints are all over Roe v. Wade, No Child Left Behind, affirmative action, amnesty for illegals, and the expansion of Medicare. Indeed,...

This is the second in a series examining the role supporters of Barack Obama have played in forging fraudulent birth certificates..NEW YORK – At the center of the network of Obama radical activists who forged and distributed a fraudulent Kenyan birth certificate in August 2009 was disbarred California lawyer William L. Bryan. Bryan posts as an Obama operative under the username "PJ Foggy" and lives in Raleigh, N.C., where he runs a flower shop. Under the cover of his username, Bryan and his associates have engaged in an aggressive campaign to disrupt any and all attempts to pursue legal challenges...

Allen West's opposition to Barack Obama's "draft executive order" continued in his Weekly Wrapup, in which he wrote this: However, an issue surfaced which could undermine the very fabric of who we are in this constitutional republic. This week a "draft" Executive Order was leaked that would force any entity competing for a federal government contract to disclose political and third party political organization contributions as part of the "Request for Proposal (RFP)" submission process. I was fortunate to be a part of a joint hearing between the Small Business and Oversight and Government Reform Committees on this issue. Under...

The man who likely has done more than anyone to put the libertarian philosophy of freedom and small government on the political agenda probably will make another run for the presidency: U.S. Rep. Ron Paul. Paul is always upbeat, but lately he's had more reason to be, as he sees libertarian ideas bubbling up from the grass roots. "People outside of Washington are waking up," he told me, "and they're getting the attention of a few in Washington." Paul has been in Congress more than 20 years, and much of that time he's played a lonely role, often being the...

Here's the bottom line for the ethanol tax credits additive to the White House-GOP tax compromise: • $6 billion in subsidies for 2011. • $10 per extra gallon of ethanol. • $14 million per extra job. • $1.2 billion to attract one extra Senate vote. In a season of giving in Washington, the ethanol lobby may come away with even more than it hoped for and its ardent defenders sought. The Senate version of the $858 billion tax bill unveiled late Thursday — just a week after Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., proposed extending the ethanol tax credit at a reduced...

Good evening, Freepers. As election day approaches I have been noticing a lot of noobies on Free Republic. A number of these youngsters have made no attempt to hide their Troll status, while others have worked to be a bit more creative in an effort to be incognito in order to blend in. One of the best examples I've found was in reading a noobs About page recently. In this About, I was greeted with a life-size portrait of Sarah Palin. I can only assume the Troll figured we Freepers are of an unsophisticated palate, lacking in a discerning eye....

A majority of active-duty and reserve service members surveyed by the Defense Department would not object to serving and living alongside openly gay troops, according to multiple people familiar with the findings. The survey's results are expected to be included in a Pentagon report, due to President Obama on Dec. 1, regarding how the military would end enforcement of the "don't ask, don't tell" law that bans openly gay men and lesbians from serving in uniform. Some troops surveyed - but not a majority - objected strongly to the idea of serving with gays and said they would quit the...

The Internet giant AOL libeled Free Republic as "hosting child pornography" in an article published Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at their Daily Finance news site. The site's masthead reads: Daily Finance An AOL Money & Finance Site.Authored by Daily Finance media columnist Jeff Bercovici, the article entitled Muzzled Reporter Says 'Maw of Yahoo' No Place for Journalism tells the story about John Cook's reasons for leaving Yahoo News and returning to his previous gig with Gawker. According to the article, Cook was the senior national affairs reporter for Yahoo's The Upshot news blog. Bercovici notes that he and Cook are...

The AOL-owned site Daily Finance this morning retracted a passage in an article that falsely stated Free Republic hosted child pornography. The article was about reporter John Cook leaving Yahoo News to return to Gawker. Included in Cook's reasons for leaving, according to Daily Finance reporter Jeff Bercovici, was that Yahoo would not allow him to write about Free Republic "hosting child pornography." The Salon.com article that was linked to support that claim actually stated that Free Republic did not host child pornography. The offending Daily Finance passage now reads:"... On similar grounds, he was prohibited from writing about the conservative website...

I was watching a video on the anti-mosque rally on youtube, and I was surprised to see people in the comment section invoking “private property rights” to defend the mosque. First off it’s a bit odd for ‘these people’, broadly speaking, to be defending that. Where were they when American Renaissance meetings were shut down by “anti-racist” race terrorists? Where were they when Scientology meetups get harassed? I’m sure if you looked you could find many other examples. If they don’t want to defend “private property”, fine. But this selective invocation of principles is hypocrisy. Second off, if you support...

I am sick and tired of this site being taken over by Catholics ( of which I am one ) stories or proverbs. This is a news site not a religion site. Go do that somewhere else. I am not opposed to your prostilazion(sp), just not here. We lose credibility if any religious group dictates or can be quoted from this site. As a long term member of this site I regret posting this information, but the site has been buried in Catholic stuff recently and it should be shunted to some separate page.

Of all the U.S. Senate seats Republicans hope to win from Democrats in November, there may be few they covet more than that of Barbara Boxer, the powerful California liberal facing a bruising battle with businesswoman Carly Fiorina. But it's not only Republicans who believe that Fiorina, a multimillionaire former Hewlett-Packard CEO, has a chance to knock off Boxer. Political analysts are calling the race a toss-up, and even Boxer's own campaign sees a hard-fought race in the fall. Voter surveys have found that the outspoken Boxer, a strong supporter of President Barack Obama's agenda and a lightning rod for...

It is good to criticize fanaticism, esp. BLIND fanaticism, but be equally weary of the fanatical Palin haters that parade around this site. Regardless of how some mask their true wishes for Palin in "constructive critic" guise, there are plenty of writers and thinkers out there who offer honest critique of Palin while having her and our country's best interests in mind and therefore want her to come out WINNING. Most of the FR trolls who post the latest Palin hit-piece of the day could care less for Palin and take joy everytime she supposedly "falls." To these types, Palin...

This is just a quick note to everyone. Lately, a lot of people have discovered a video that supposedly is by a Hawaii official that claims there is no Hawaii Birth Certificate for the President. We have no idea as to the legitimacy of this claim however, we need to warn everyone that the source of this video is a group called The Council of Conservative Citizens. This is NOT a Conservative group, do not be fooled by the name. This group is a front group for a neo-Nazi group known as the National Alliance and is associated with Stormfront....

The shameless media manipulators at the DNC have a new campaign designed to promote Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court. As with previous campaigns, the “Kagan for Justice Action Center” is run via a special website set up by Organizing for America. It encourages people to write letters to the editors of newspapers nationwide (And we can presume that, as before, local newspapers will publish DNC talking points without realizing it). What’s new is that the DNC is now branching out to Astroturf talk radio as well. Here’s how the page looks on their website:

Huffington Post, Obama, Obama campaign paid Huffington Post $ 55354 in 2008, Money in 2008, Government controls now In 2008, the Obama Campaign used a great deal of money from undocumented donors, a legion of paid bloggers, internet thugs and a complicit press to spin their Orwellian lies. The Obama Campaign paid The Huffington Post $ 55,354 in 2008. That of course is what was reported to the FEC and is the tip of the iceberg. I have heard Obama refer to The Huffington Post on several occasions. The last time was the last straw. The Citizen Wells blog has...

Remember Ellie Light? The Obama Blog Squad has been active on a number of high profile conservative webpages in the last month. The Muffled Oar broke the story in October of Administration-wide coordination between agency public affairs offices and left wing bloggers to attack news stories critical of Obama, post anonymous comments and seed the Internet with unofficial official Obama spin. As part of this effort, the Justice Department Office of Public Affairs works closely with left wing bloggers to distribute administration spin. The OPA unit is headed by a former John Edwards campaign staffer who conducted this type of...

One afternoon in the spring of 2006, for reasons unknown to those who knew him, Mitchell Henderson, a seventh grader from Rochester, Minn., took a .22-caliber rifle down from a shelf in his parents’ bedroom closet and shot himself in the head. The next morning, Mitchell’s school assembled in the gym to begin mourning. His classmates created a virtual memorial on MySpace and garlanded it with remembrances. One wrote that Mitchell was “an hero to take that shot, to leave us all behind. God do we wish we could take it back. . . . ” Someone e-mailed a clipping...

Senator Lindsey Graham on Sunday outlined his plan to help President Obama close Guantánamo if the administration agrees to abandon a civilian New York terror trial for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in favor of a military tribunal. BY MARK SAPPENFIELD On Sunday, two moderate senators defended President Obama’s apparent willingness to reconsider his administration’s decision to use a civilian New York terror trial for the admitted mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. The first, Senator Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina, is seen as the architect behind the Obama administration’s potential change in plans. He has promised...

Please read about Breitbart's opening salvo against John Podesta and Media Matters. This is not paranoia. Media Matters, a Soros outfit, is hiring "interns" to come on conservative forums and try to sow division, slow down momentum, forment confusion. And they are better at it than they used to be. They don't curse and swear like liberals on their own forums do.

MIAMI — When Jeb Bush left office four years ago, his public appearances were as scarce as bi-partisan man hugs. He didn't want to upstage his successor in the governor's mansion nor his brother in the White House. Instead, he quietly cashed in by joining corporate boards and an elite speakers bureau, penned policy essays and gave infrequent interviews to conservative media. But in recent months, as the Republican Party of Florida has grappled with a leadership vacuum, Bush's political profile has grown as fast as the national deficit ...

Troll Dissection 101 is an ongoing series where we’ll take you through troll droppings we find, and give you our take on what the DNC and Obama propagandists were trying to accomplish with them. What follows is a comment caught today in spam filters, with our breakdown of the psychology employed in it. We’d love to say the DNC and Obama propagandists behind these things incorrectly think Americans are so stupid they’ll fall for this stuff, but in reality, a good many people DO fall for this stuff. The problem, we’ve found, is that Americans in general are just SO...

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah: “Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.” “Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”...

This is a response to the plan by Obama and his advisors like Cass Sunstein to “cognitively infiltrate” groups they wrongfully designate as targets. So the leftists think they’re gonna pull off an Alinsky-style revolution, for the purpose of overthrowing the United States Constitution? There are many here who will support and defend the United States Constitution, and who will reject the tactics of Saul Alinsky, Cloward-Piven, and all of communism. There are many here who take communist icons at their word, considering them as enemies of the United States. These enemies can be defeated. Sinister characters, with neither the...

After observing an especially ugly exchange on Twitter between a friend and a leftist troll, I began to wonder why the left is so damn angry. I’m not a doctor, but I believe I can diagnose their condition as, a complete lack of creativity due to reduced cognitive function. For the left, big government is the solution to every problem. People are poor? More big government. Some people don’t have health insurance? More big government. A company is failing? More big government. A financial crisis that is rooted in failed government policy? MORE BIG GOVERNMENT!!!

Ignoring internet "trolls" is the best way to deter people who surf the internet picking fights and abusing people on discussion forums, says an expert. ABC News Online this week scrapped its 'Open for Comment' panel in a bid to deter trolls, who constantly start arguments and hurl abuse at other participants. The move has been criticised by some people, as has ABC policy to moderate comments before posting them to the site. The role of moderator is to act as a filter to keep debate civil, constructive and on topic. But some feel it is a form of censorship.......

I certainly understand why someone would want to post anonymously on The Times Argus Web site/message boards. A number of legitimate reasons have been provided in letters and subsequent on-line comments ranging from "I don't want my boss to know my politics" to "It's my right as an American to express my opinion." When one poster suggested that I would "die soon and nobody would care" and went on to describe what I was wearing, I even considered adopting a pseudonym for myself. Most contributors make consistently reasonable points in mostly respectful ways. Coincidently, many of them are real people,...

A backlash against anonymous commenters and trolls seems to be underway. Only last month, a court case was settled where anonymous commenters ended up having to pay big fines to the women who they defiled using vulgar, derogatory remarks on an internet forum. And previously, an anonymous blogger in the modeling industry was forced to reveal her identity after numerous malicious posts about a colleague showed up on her blog. Now the latest scandal in this new trend of "giving the trolls what they deserve" is causing a controversy all of its own. And this time, the nasty comment didn't...

Two months ago, the blog Jumping in Pools, which has been banned from FR for its chain-yanking postings of bogus news stories, posted a bogus story about Time magazine writer Joe Klein supposedly reporting on Barack Obama's writings at Columbia University about the Constitution.Apparently without doing any research to see if Klein had actually written such an article, respected sites including American Thinker and Pajamas Media got all excited about the story and reported it today as if it were true. They apparently hadn't noticed there was no source link at Jumping in Pools back to the supposed Joe Klein article....

A troll 'beauty' contest, is there a more perfect oxymoron? That was the name of the game Saturday evening at Norsk Hstfest, where a dozen local elementary and middle-school students donned grotesque masks, scary wigs and trashy threads as each vyed for such titles as "Longest nose", "Best horn", "Biggest wart", "Best eyebrows" and several other characteristics atypical of a traditional beauty contest. "We wanted to do the contest to recognize the efforts these kids put toward creating their costumes," said Tracey Lawson, who helped coordinate the event. The troll costumes were made at the Scandinavian youth camps, held the...
