"Our goal is the imposition of an Islamic Caliphate
to increase crucifixion, slavery, rape, and murder of non-Moslems.
If you don't approve, you will be audited and Deathpaneled."

"The British and French missed the opportunity to re-establish the Byzantine Empire after WWI"

Following the general outline of Sykes-Picot, they created an unholy mess that impacts the entire area to this day.

You cannot cut up the Middle east by drawing on a cocktail napkin.

Too bad the Catholic Church didn’t help the Byzantine Empire before the empire crumbled.. Or maybe the Catholic Church should not have invaded the empire during the second crusade.

Thanks to Dr. Kaplan for clarifying the bizzare foreign policy that the current administration has pursued. Now it’s crystal clear that the president wants to destroy this country.

“So far, the German policy of keeping hidden its leadership role in its attempt to reconstitute the Ottoman Empire has succeeded.”

correlation is not causation

“Germany” was not BEHIND

(a) U.S. intervention in Iraq,

(b) the rise of the Islamist party now dominating Turkey,

(c) Syrian reaching out to Iran as a counter to Wahabi-Sunni-Saudi & Gulfstate-Arab Sunni opposition to Assad.

2013 is not the 12th through 14th centuries.

Someone is spinning a lot of different “Ottoman empire” myths in a distraction from what is really happening in the Middle East.

Not by mistake, to be sure.

You seem confident in that assertion. Got any proof?

It’s Robert Kaplan that has no proof.

He has a lot of innuendo, a lot of supposition, a lot of use of correlation, even though correlation is not causation, and his worst error in his thinking is that international relationships remain as they were in the era of the Ottoman Empire, as if all the history since then never happened.

“one learns that the ICC is a project initiated, promoted and, to a considerable extent, funded by Germany.”

No. The ICC was initiated, promoted and is funded by many nations in Europe, and Germany was not even among the first among them. Yes, Germany does support the ICC and so do many other nations particularly in Europe. It was not a “German” project. Germany obtained other states agreement in the final treaty, in terms of the shape of the court and the mandate it would take upon itself. But, the idea of the court and the general sense in Europe that there ought to be such a court at all, was not a “German” project, and as I said began in Europe without Germany.

Am I promotiong or in favor of promoting the ICC? No. I am totally against it. That has nothing to do with its origins or who has been behind it. Lots of people have, and not just Germany.

“which reports that the German government supports the rebels and their political arm, the Syrian National Council (SNC), against Assad; that the German government classified [made secret] “by reason of national interest” the contents of several BND (German foreign intelligence) reports that the May 25, 2012 massacre of civilians in the Syrian town of Houla, for which Assad has been blamed, was in fact perpetrated by rebel forces; and that “the German foreign office is working with representatives of the Syrian opposition to develop ‘concrete plans’ for a ‘political transition’ in Syria after the fall of Assad.”

Guess what; GWBush initiated the covert plan to promote and fund a domestic “opposition” movement in Syria starting more than a decade ago and it continued with Obama. We, some NATO members, the Gulf States and the Saudis have been behind it all along. It did not come from Germany and some NATO members and the U.S., and others, started to build the “Syrian opposition” before the Arab Spring began. It was not a “German” project, it was a “multinational” project.

Correlation is not causation, innuendo and supposition is not proof, 12th to 14th century context is not 2013 context; no matter what innuendo Mr Kaplan wants to make.

So you have no proof of your position, then.

My position is that the position that things in the Middle East are reflecting a (a) rebirth of the Ottoman Empire and (b) that possibly Germany is encouraging that is a perspective that has no proof, it is mere speculation without evidence. You can point to speculative opinions all you want, they are not proof of anything.
