Michael Steele ‘looking at’ run for governor of Maryland
Washington Post ^ | 06/04/2013 | John Wagner

Michael Steele, a former Republican National Committee chairman and former lieutenant governor of Maryland, is weighing a 2014 gubernatorial bid, he said Monday.

“We’re looking at it,” Steele, who is now an MSNBC contributor, told host Chuck Todd on his program “The Daily Rundown” on the network. Steele said he doesn’t feel that he needs to make a decision until the end of the year.

His comments came on the same day that Harford County Executive David R. Craig (R) became the first major Republican candidate to announce his bid to succeed Gov. Martin O’Malley (D). Also Monday, Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D), who announced his gubernatorial bid last month, publicly unveiled Howard County Executive Ken Ulman (D) as his running mate.

Steele, who lost a U.S. Senate bid in 2006, acknowledged that Maryland is “a tough state” for a Republican, but he suggested there may be an opening because residents have been “taxed to the hilt.”

Is this the Michael Steele from the RNC?

If so, I’d sure like to see someone better come along.

I lost all respect for the guy that was head of the RNC for a few years.

No. Just no. It’s going to take a near-miracle for a Republican to win that seat, and Steele doesn’t have that kind of miracle in him. His previous attempts around here basically amounted to pretending he was a Democrat and relying on melanin count. Didn’t work as the voters went for the real Democrat instead.

I honestly don’t know how any thinking person could vote for Obama. He was so unqualified. It was the ultimate insult to Blacks to make this guy the first Black president.

There are qualified Blacks. I’d love to see a good Black Republican emerge and become president, because it would once and for all prove that Conservative Blacks are capable, and contrast favorably to Leftists of any stripe.

Instead we have a Black that deserves impeachment and removal from office. And many Blacks won’t understand why. Many will.

No chance. Brown will win and we all know why, lest we forget the racist comments some of the lib PG county folks gave Steele in his 2014 Senate bid. MD is even more whacko now than even MA where even the RINOs like Steele can’t even be competitive. When Ehrlich had a near 60% approval rating and still lost by double digits to the former drunkard mayor from one of America’s most dangerous cities, that tells you everything you need to know.

Harford, Cecil, Washington, Garrett, and Allegheny are the only certain areas for a GOP candidate. Frederick has been trending left as people fly north of the DC suburbs and is probably a 53-47 proposition at best. The Eastern shore is probably slightly red, but not enough people there with the libs able to pull even overall in Salisbury and OC.

Anne Arundel and Baltimore County (not city) used to be areas where Republicans would win well, but AA is now almost a 50-50 shot, a Balt County has swung Democrat in the last few Elections. Howard County (Columbia/Laurel) has also turned into a few point Democratic advantage.

And this is before taking into account the massive advantages for the Democrats in PG and Baltimore City. Lastly, Montgomery County should be prime RINO country, but this too has a leftist advantage even with all the companies fleeing the higher taxes.

Simply put, there’s no mathematical way for Steele to win in the current climate, without some type of cultural change and awareness on behalf of Maryland voters.

Where did you read that? I do not believe he did that; although he was photographed smiling broadly at Brak and Moo as if to congratulate him.

I would, too; but Steele isn't the guy.

Brown is a very impressive guy, even though I don’t agree with him on many issues. His running mate, Ken Ulman, has been a relatively popular Howard County executive. There’s no way a Republican - even a faux Republican like Steele - beats that ticket.

This guy couldn't campaign his way out of a brown paper bag is he wee-weed into it first. What a maroon!

My sympathies to Maryland, where many Baltimore voters have been voting early and often since registering in 1789.

I’m not sure if he did or didn’t. He didn’t deny it when asked. He said, ‘You never know...” or some such.

It would seem like an easy question to answer. He was on a Black talk show.

The guy is too clever by half here, trying to be cool.
