National Sales Tax. Retail outlets already collect taxes in most states.
Never happen of course, because it is hard to make it graduated. Even if it did become law, it would be only a short time before there would be a new tax law in addition to the sales tax.
The only real solution is to elect honest politicians, but since a great many of them are lawyers, I doubt that could ever happen.
Hard to make it graduated? Of course not. People with more money to spend will spend it, and the tax
will self-adjust to tax the wealthier, not at a higher rate, but at a higher dollar amount.
Poor person spends $50 on clothing and household items and pays $10 in taxes at 20%.
Rich person spends $1500 for a huge soiree for his wife’s birthday and pays $300 in taxes at 20%.
If we limit the size and scope of government, there is no way that they will need that kind of revenue.
But we can’t fix everything at once, I guess.
