"White House Down" was supposed to be one of the surefire hits of the summer.
Channing Tatum became a bona fide movie star last year with a sleeper hit trifecta of "The Vow," "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike" (not to mention being named People's Sexiest Man Alive). Jamie Foxx was coming off his biggest box office success to date with the Oscar nominated "Django Unchained." And director Roland Emmerich has experience both directing blockbuster hits ("2012," "The Day After Tomorrow") and destroying the White House in a patriotic summer movie sensation ("Independence Day").
But even with that pedigree and high profile pre-release hype dating all the way back to Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars ABC special (where Foxx and Tatum turned catchy/silly slow jam "Channing All Over Your Tatum" into a viral hit), "White House Down" shocked Hollywood with a embarrassingly limp $25.7 million estimated opening weekend.

It will be very interesting to see how the next 'Amazing Spider-Man' movie plays out at the box office. Foxx plays the villain 'Electro', whose race was changed from white to black to get Foxx in the role...was that move a mistake? We'll see. The young crowd seems to be more forgiving of racism when it's black on white.
Similar to how “Armageddon” and “Deep Impact” came out in the same year.
There is a registry for scripts that screenwriters want to protect. I suspect it gets robbed for plots from time to time.

Go see the Heat—a better film if you can stand all the F-Bombs they utter.
“Olympus Has fallen” must be bad. It will be available on Netflix next month. That’s a rapid move from big screen to DVD.
Actually industry norm is 4 months from theaters to DVD, so with a March 22 theatrical release that’s pretty much right on schedule.
The big problem is you can’t protect a pitch. A guy goes to the studio and says “Die Hard at the White House” and they like the first sentence but don’t like the rest of his pitch, they go and hire some writers to do the first sentence. Meanwhile the guy goes to another studio, they like the whole pitch. Then the race is on.
I’ll wait for the documentary.
I have pretty much put Jamie the Racist Foxx on my list of actors not to patronize.
He is a gifted man, he was wonderful in “Ray”, and from my understanding he had a Christian home in which to learn right and wrong.
Something happened, though...fame, wealth and the pride of life, perhaps, has captured his heart...
His boasting about shooting white people on Saturday Night Live and his blind embrace of George Zimmerman’s attacker and his reference of Obama as “Lord and Saviour” has made me never really care to see any of his work again.
Rich men find it hard to enter the kingdom...but it IS possible.

The target audience sneaks in the back door of the theater.
At over half a billion dollars in total grosses for each (actually close to 3/4 for one), that’s pretty blockbustery.

When you simply have a rabid Obama ass slurper in Foxx playing the prez, and comes right after Olympus Has Fallen, there will be saturation of the WH disasters.
And I explained this to another Freeper: 2 of my fellow cohorts works on that set with Emmerich a year ago last summer. Emmerich even was overheard saying “put the gray stuff on your head to look like Obama”, I kid you not. One of them is now on Transformers 4. Tatum is friendly off-set from what I gathered from them but Foxx is an ass clown, and thinks highly of himself.
