None of this would have happened if George Zimmerman had taken his wife to the movies that evening.

Yep, this news is being reported totally differently in the black media. Nary a word about all the gaffes and lies.

***Apparently you have not been watching the trial***

True. I’ve got better things to do.

The police offered Zimmerman a squad car and a volunteer position. He turned them down. That’s not the action of a cop wannabe. I’d like a half dozen neighbors like Zimmerman. If every black community had that many you’d see crime drop deeply.

AFAIK, the remaining problem is that killing is illegal unless an _affirmative_defense_ is presented, which we have not seen. We’ve seen the demolition of any imputation of malice, but the actual defense argument has not yet been presented. At this point, GZ’s only hope is that the over-charging of 2nd Degree Murder has been eviscerated; a charge of Manslaughter may remain.

It’s a nuanced point; correct me where my specifics are objectively wrong. (No, I’m not arguing GZ’s guilt, just thinking thru what the DA could pull.)

Can you tell me for certain that Martin threw the first punch?

A list of the injuries sustained by *both* parties should illuminate a bit.

Mr Martin sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest, and skinned knuckles on both hands. Mr. Zimmerman sustained 2 black eyes, a broken nose, lacerations and contusions on the back of his head, consistent with it being slammed into the sidewalk.

Note that *NO* skinned knuckles were a part of the list of injuries sustained by Mr. Zimmerman, and likewise no bruising or other blunt force trauma injuries consistent with having received a punch on the body of Mr. Martin. There is *NO* physical evidence at all, whatsoever, that Mr. Zimmerman ever threw a punch at all, but copious evidence that Mr. Martin did.

With this in mind, who threw the 'first punch'? The evidence indicates that Mr. Martin, and Mr. Martin alone, threw any punches at all...

I just heard on the ABC news break someone said, and I do not know who this was, all this could have been avoided if Zimmerman had stayed in his car...

I, for one, am exceeding weary of hearing this 'what if' drivel. That can work two ways. Those who start with the "What if Zimmerman had stayed in his car, Trayvon would still be alive," should be immediately answered with "What if Trayvon Martin had not gotten himself suspended from school for two weeks, regardless of what the reason for that suspension was. He would have been 270 miles away from Sanford, and George Zimmerman on the night in question, and would still be alive."

Another what if...

What if Trayvon Martin hadn’t tired to murder George Zimmerman by slamming his skull into concrete?

Choice meet consequence.

Irrlevent. The evidence supports the conclusion that Zimmerman was in a fight for his life and therefore justified in shooting Treyvon.

According to an expert (I forget his name) on Bill O'Reilly last night, if GZ is convicted of manslaughter, he could get a 30-year sentence. It is normally 15 years but increased if the dead person is a minor and if a firearm was used. That would be only marginally better than being convicted of second degree murder in terms of how long he would have to serve. And if he is sentenced to prison there would be a good chance he would be killed there.

It may be that Corey's plan all along was to overcharge so that the jury would compromise with manslaughter. The blond motormouth on Hannity last night also was hoping for manslaughter--so they seem to think that is a real possibility.

The so called witnesses in the case have been caught in a few lies and changes stories more than once.

No witnesses for the defense have testified yet, so you would be referring to prosecution witnesses lying.

Please point out the provable lies that Zimmerman has, that would change the basic premise of the facts.

Bill 0'Reilly calls him a liar everyday while displaying the picture of st Trayvon as a 12 year old. Most talking heads on TV appearing as experts know less than the average Freeper, excepting yourself of course.

Irrelevant as to who “started it”...

Trayvon became the aggressor as soon as Zim was on the ground. Straddling him and pummeling him was assault with intent to kill.
