Live Thread: Egypt Revolution 2.0
Various sources | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/03/2013 5:56:34 AM PDT by kristinn

The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.

A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:

Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”

The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

Obama’s concerned that he’s been caught out on what all those Egyptian posters proclaim: “Obama supports Terrorists”.

What is plain to other nations is unknown to Americans because of the protective shield our media provides the Resident of the United States. I pray that this is the beginning of this Muslim Brotherhood plant’s undoing and he takes all of his enablers down with him.

God bless our nation and all of you concerned conservatives on Free Republic!

Obama is NEVER concerned he’s been caught....he’s only concerned with how he can wiggle around, thru, or over ...he is so in over his head everywhere!

As for media...This started four days agao and we recorded it from the get go on the first thread (Egypt)...while the MSM said ‘nothing’ ...it was a definate “Black Out” to keep the duffas American people from seeing him as he is on the International stage....for the Banners of Obama were huge and hung all over Egypt....

Media also had to prepare their “spin” to keep Obama protected....this when it became obvious the whole world was watching...except the American people...because of course there was “nothing” to see.

I do not think this is the beginning of the end of the Muslim Brotherhood by any means....they will always regroup and wait in the wings like a venemous snake. If anything they will now be all the more determined.....it’s how their minds work....we’ll see flare-ups from their supporters over the days and weeks ahead....

I’ve spent four days listening and watching this Historical event...”worldwide”...and I got to say the American people are out of the loop of what’s really happening worldwide especially if the only news they watch is MSM.

So you think Obama will be causing trouble behind the scene. And who is backing muslim loving Grover Norquist who has conned most Republicans into signing his no new taxes ever pledge which is likely to destroy or at lease seriously weaken our military. Enter his name in FR Search and see what fascinating and frightening info you will find there.

Regarding your questions who wants Morsi out, Why? To replace with who? Morsi only got 40% of the vote (Muslim Brotherhood). The MB had years of organizing time. The secular modernist supporters had only a year to organize. Now they have had 2 more years to get feed up and more organized. Morsi immediately moved to eliminate the old constitution which the well organized Islamist Muslim Brotherhood managed to dominate in the rewriting. Morsi also threw out the judiciary. Also, instead of putting energy in to improving Egypt, he put energy into enriching himself, and I presume his favorites.

In other words the people now have enough on him to be royally pixxed. The military is canceling the new constitution and reverting to the old one. Of course, the military are not saints, and run a lot of non military related businesses for fun and profit. Egypt is not pro Iran and has supported the Syrian rebels. Once Morsi is out there will be a lot of in fighting to see what faction(s) can attract the most wide support and votes. I don’t think this will become a military dictatorship.

If the figure of 33 million in the street is true, that is huge. The population of Egypt is 80 million, many are babes and young children. Others are very old and the weather is very hot, and 1/2 are women. You do the math.

<...”Once Morsi is out there will be a lot of in fighting to see what faction(s) can attract the most wide support and votes. I don’t think this will become a military dictatorship.”...>

This occurs within our governance as well...we just generally don’t see the passion and emotions...Egyptians are more forthright emotionally.

I think one of the difficulties is too many that run there believe if they get the majority vote, then they are the winners to “Rule”. Operating under their old standards of reasoning. Do they understand “Governance” is not the same as “Ruling” a nation? Obviously Morsi did not...but then non of the Muslim Brotherhood do...they have another agenda entirely.

Google earth had it at 17 million ‘early on’...the most remarkable thing is to have that enormous amount of people that ‘calm’ ,over four days, is stunningly amazing! Truly astounding!

YES; this is the live thread for the foreseeable future (I hope).

There was a suggestion back in the posts 500’s of a new thread raised by crosslink, but that was about Tunisia following Egypt’s example:

Post 539 and post 587:
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/07/03/uk-tunisia-opposition-idUKBRE9620ZZ20130703

I also think that was what melancholy was referring to in your question to her in post 782; i.e., she also was referring to Tunisia

Harder to find right now as it’s still night there and relatively quiet.....hopefully not a calm before a storm...but don’t be surprised if some upheaval over the next days and weeks....

“New Shoes” always rub and sometimes blister if the “fit” is not right.... Egypt will find the way I hope...because it’s good for Israel that they do.

Yes...I jumped too fast on that in hind site.

No doubt Egypt leads the way in the Middle East when it comes to trying to get it right....others do follow her....yet with much uncertainty for all in the East these days.

Wonder what Assad thinks of this...he's watched them all fall and likely smirking as he still stands.
