More Americans View Blacks As Racist Than Whites, Hispanics
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 7/3/2012

Posted on 07/04/2013 6:35:01 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

Americans consider blacks more likely to be racist than whites and Hispanics in this country.

Thirty-seven percent (37%) of American Adults think most black Americans are racist, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Just 15% consider most white Americans racist, while 18% say the same of most Hispanic Americans. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

There is a huge ideological difference on this topic. Among conservative Americans, 49% consider most blacks racist, and only 12% see most whites that way. Among liberal voters, 27% see most white Americans as racist, and 21% say the same about black Americans.

From a partisan perspective, 49% of Republicans see most black Americans as racist, along with 36% of unaffiliated adults and 29% of Democrats.

Among black Americans, 31% think most blacks are racist, while 24% consider most whites racist and 15% view most Hispanics that way.

Among white adults, 10% think most white Americans are racist; 38% believe most blacks are racist, and 17% say most Hispanics are racist.

Overall, just 30% of all Americans now rate race relations in the United States as good or excellent. Fourteen percent (14%) describe them as poor. Twenty-nine percent (29%) think race relations are getting better, while 32% believe they are getting worse. Thirty-five percent (35%) feel they are staying about the same.

These figures reflect more pessimism than was found in April when 42% gave race relations positive marks and 39% said race relations were improving. However, the April number reflected all-time highs while the current numbers are more consistent with the general attitudes of recent years.

The survey of 1,000 Adults was conducted on July 1-2, 2013 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently killed a key portion of the Voting Rights Act as unconstitutional and sent a lawsuit challenging the University of Texas’ use of race as a factor in admissions back to the appellate court level for further review. Most Americans believe affirmative action admissions policies discriminate against whites, as the lawsuit argues, and think it’s better for colleges and universities to accept the most qualified students.

This is consistent with public resistance to all special preferences. Only 30% think it’s fair for colleges and universities to give preferences to children of large donors. Just 38% think it is fair for the children of previous students to have a special advantage in the admissions process.

Following those decisions and a big ruling on same-sex marriage, public approval of the U.S. Supreme Court has fallen to the lowest level ever recorded in more than nine years of polling.

Blacks are slightly more optimistic about the current state of race relations in American than whites and Hispanics are. But 37% of blacks and 38% of Hispanics believe those relations are getting worse, compared to 29% of whites.

Liberals are more confident than conservatives that race relations are getting better.

Forty-five percent (45%) of voters believe the U.S. justice system is fair to most Americans, but just 34% think it is fair to poor Americans. Forty-five percent (45%) consider the justice system fair to black and Hispanic Americans.

Most voters continue to believe the U.S. economy is fair to women, blacks and Hispanics but are now evenly divided when asked if it’s fair to lower-income Americans. However, they still think all four groups are treated better than the middle class.

The word racist is such an ambiguous word. I would suggest that blacks and even other races are 'racial' in large numbers i.e. most.

We act as if there isn't political power and agenda that is very specifically racial in this nation. How about we do away with all of that and then revisit this issue? Think that most blacks would want to do that?

Had a talk with a Black co-worker about how the Zimmerman trial is going. He thinks George needs to be put away. I discussed the law and how most of the evidence is on George’s side. He then declared that he had to be guilty of something> I said he was - a bit of bad judgement by not being more alert and ending up being attacked. Martin just happened to commit a worse bit of bad judgement by instigating the physical conflict and of putting an armed man in fear for his life.

>>The word racist is such an ambiguous word.

The blacks defined the word a long time ago. Using their definition, they have finally acheieved the power to oppress and a sense of superiority over other races, so they are indeed racist by their own definition.

By the same definition, most whites lack the power to oppress anymore, so we cannot be racist (by the black definition) anymore.

Let’s end once and for all the idea of a “race card.”

I don’t know if this translates to racism, but do I know there has been a marked uptick in black-on-white violence since the advent of the Obamanation regime.

Most educated blacks I've spoken to don't think Zimmerman is guilty of murder.

However, they do think he is guilty of racism for profiling and following Trayvon without actually seeing him do anything illegal. They think he frightened T into a confrontation by following him for no good reason and should pay somehow for that.

The recording also sounds very bad to blacks-

“These punks” - Similar to ‘you people’

“What are YOU doing here?” - What are you doing in a white neighborhood, black boy?

If I just read the article correctly, more BLACKS say blacks are more racist. Case closed. Besides, anyone with some life experience knows this to be true.

Whites are afraid to be racist. Blacks are racist as they claim to be constant victims, against whites, Hispanics, Asians, etc, against light or dark skinned blacks, and they talk in racial terms all day long.

Speaking very generally of course, not all blacks are like this.

Yes, and this is why the continuing racialization of America is so dangerous. It is not a crime to follow someone on a public street, and you cannot attack someone even if you think they followed you because you are black.

Further, it only makes sense that people notice someone who appears unusual to their neighborhood for any reason.

wwhat’s the likelihood Z would have ignored a 6’2 teenager wandering in that neighborhood late at night, no matter their race?

Also, from the testimony, Z called police after seeing Trayvon by a house which recently had been robbed, Z had called the police on that robbery, and he knew the homeowner.

A damn good reason to call the police, along with a rash of robberies.

“I know that I view blacks as more racist.”

So do I but, let’s examine why that is.

I believe that a small percentage of whites are anti black and that the small percentage (10-15 percent) can make life more difficult for blacks in general.

I also believe that a large percentage of blacks are anti white (60-70 percent), but this group has minimal effect on the life of whites in general.

This is because most black people must interact with whites because whites are a large percentate of the population. While whites can often sail through a day never even speaking to a black person.

Had a talk with a Black co-worker about how the Zimmerman trial is going.

I spoke to an Asian woman who was drawing my blood for my annual physical. She said that she had children about Martin's age and that they often acted irresponsibly and it was incumbent on the adult to be responsible in those situations. She felt that Zimmerman was guilty regardless of the details because Zimmerman was a man and Martin was a child.

She was waving a needle in my face at the time so I did not disagree with her.

I am having trouble imagining how any white person can "make life more difficult for blacks in general," these days. An example of what you're thinking of would be helpful.

This is because most black people must interact with whites because whites are a large percentate of the population. While whites can often sail through a day never even speaking to a black person.

Perhaps, but the things I see blacks doing to "make life more difficult" for whites involve, mostly, criminal activity, often of the violent sort.

So, unless you explain further, I couldn't possibly disagree with your assertion more.

What is your point? That blacks can be racial all the while screaming racism? That's neat gig. That we all should have such a one way street?
