Well from being in the service and any one with rank above your’s and the designation is longer than your breath, you just say Sir!

4-18. A soldier addressing a higher ranking officer uses the word sir or ma'am in the same manner as a polite civilian speaking with a person to whom he wishes to show respect. In the military service, the matter of who says sir or ma'am to whom is clearly defined; in civilian life it is largely a matter of discretion. In the case of NCOs and soldiers, we address them by their rank because they've earned that rank.

As a civilian you can address him as hey you!
His Rank has nothing to do with civilisn life!
But as a Soldier yes you better show respect!
His Title has no clout in Civilian life. But his record may show attributes of loyalty and honesty which are a requirement
in Military Life!
This does not mean this individual adheres to these attributes but shows he has shown certain elements that would acertain these aspects of Military life are in his scope of life.

I hope you're not correct but like you said, the last election was rigged and there is no reason this trial cannot also be rigged.

That said, this trial is a watershed. Either way, things will never be the same.
