For anyone who thinks all Jewish people are liberal, look at this revolt against homosexual marriage in the heart of one of California's most important and most wealthy synagogues.

“To officiate a union that is expressly not for the same godly purpose of procreation and to call such a relationship ‘sanctified’ is unacceptable to a sound mind,” M. Michael Naim, an architect, said in an open letter to other Iranian members of the congregation. “Homosexuality is explicitly condemned in Scripture and has been categorically and passionately rejected by all classical Jewish legal and ethical thinkers as a cardinal vice in the same category as incest, murder and idolatry.”

It is indeed odd when most of the rest of the world looks sane compared to America.
America is a nation in steep decline. Nothing lasts forever. Congratulations to the Democrats.

It’s hilarious how patronizing and sanctimonious liberals can be toward the traditional morality of Asia and Africa.

You know, the poor, dumb Persians who can’t accept this...oh wait sorry my bad....who are “not yet ready” to accept this. We must simply be patient and try to bring those of childish, primitive intellect, these unsophisticated rubes from those Third World countries around.

A rabbi or priest or minister who preaches “gay marriage” is attempting to go directly against God’s express wishes.

This is no longer Judaism or Christianity. This is paganism, and a type of paganism that is deliberately, intentionally offensive to God.

It does not become any more acceptable just because it is pronounced by a respected bishop or, as in this case, a rabbi at a big, prominent synagogue. Indeed, it is made all the worse an offense because there is the likelihood of even more people following this anti-Biblical “teaching.”

There are so many things a priest or rabbi or minister can preach about “gays” ... that we should try to love them, that everybody falls short (sins) in some ways or others, that we are a community that must try to support each other....etc.....but none of these things justifies preaching a direct, flagrant disobedience of express Biblical scripture.

Such rabbis or priests or ministers should be removed from any position of leadership or teaching of the faithful.

And this is in a “Conservative” (really liberal, for the most part) congregation to boot. Will there be an outreach to the Orthodox here, I wonder . . .

God must change his opinions every now and then to adopt a more popular viewpoint. He needs us more than we need him, right? Really, these people should get out of the religion business if it means nothing to them. We must adapt to serve God, not the other way around.

The day a Homosexual marriage is performed in my Church is the last day I go there.

Let the Homo’s support the Church. See how that works out for them.

PING on Jewish issues. As a gentile, I’m an outsider, obviously, but it sounds like the people in this Jewish synagogue who oppose homosexual marriages deserve support.

Comments would be appreciated from those who are closer to the situation and know more details.

The revolt seems to be as much a Persian as a Jewish thing, but I note it's the "conservative" Jewish Rabbi here who's all for the homo marriage thing.

Nothing new about the cafeteria religious, feeding their souls from the buffet table of ideals to live by.
One either believes the word of God is inviolable and absolute or they throw in their lot with the great deceiver.
‘’rabbi’’ Wolpe has made his decision.

did not Peter and the other apostles give the legal defense before the Temple court “we ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts of the Apostles chapter 5 verse 29.Is there record of any other than a Jew being taken before such a Court? Is this same principle not valid even today? What did Moses write in the beginning?(what we who follow that Rabbi from Nazareth call Genesis chapter 1 verse 27: and chapter 2 verse 24)

I was about to say

"Far be it from me to pass on the fitness of a member of the clergy of another faith..."

When I realized it is within my purview to criticize a doctor who prescribes strychnine despite my lack of membership in, or even deep knowledge of, the medical profession.

That realized, I say:

Rabbi Wolpe is unfit for the post of Rabbi, and whatever methodology is available to remove him from it should be put into practice at once.

(I was a member of a church that removed a pastor, after an evening service in which he spoke favorably of baptismal regeneration, on the basis of motion made, motion seconded, and voice vote.)

I seem to recall the name of Rabbi David Wolpe as one of the bigwigs in the "Rabbis for Obama" movement in the '08 and/or '12 presidential campaigns. I'm sure he's very much left politically if the New York Slimes does a big story on him, pushing his gay "marriage" agenda.

The Slimes seems to think that this particular Jewish congregation is an anomaly in the sense that if it weren't for those darn Persian Jews, all Jews would be exuberant at the mere sight or thought of gay "marriage" ceremonies.

Never is it mentioned in the article that California voted strongly in an initiative for Prop 8, essentially banning gay "marriages" in the state, and that the only reason why Wolpe is performing them is weird series of court rulings by pro-gay judges and the legal antics of the 'Rat controlled state government. Yet the Slimes seems shocked that opposition to gay "marriage" still remains and that some "aliens" are still making their views against it known.

“So it was that three weeks before the Supreme Court cleared the way for same-sex marriage in California, the rabbi, David Wolpe, announced in a letter to the synagogue that gay marriages would be performed in this 107-year-old congregation, as soon as the court ruling he anticipated was handed down.”

So he thought ‘gay marriage’ was possible, but he wouldn’t do it until the state patted him on the head and told him it was OK? That doesn’t seem like it was fair to all the gay Jews. “Sorry Steve and Abe, our faith teaches you can be married, but since the state we are in says you can’t be married yet you will just have to wait for any recognition from your faith.”

This is why I quit going to shul... not this issue in particular, but the general preaching about socialism and liberal issues. The more conservative members just kept their heads down and shut up. Eventually, most of us melted away.

My daughter is very frustrated.

The surprise for me is the absence of a definitive ruling by Jewish authorities on homosexual marriage. The Catholic Church, for example, bans homosexual marriage ... period. I believe the same is true for the Orthodox Church. Protestant churches, which emerged later, have differing views. Is there an "official" position by the Jews?

Excellent news. Everyone with an intact moral compass from any religion or none needs to fight this attack on morality, family, children, and our Constitutional freedoms of religion, speech and association.

22 ... All of this is only a quick summary and I'm not being fair to the movements described. Describing modern American Jewish practices requires a book, not a page.

34 The surprise for me is the absence of a definitive ruling by Jewish authorities on homosexual marriage. The Catholic Church, for example, bans homosexual marriage ... period. I believe the same is true for the Orthodox Church. Protestant churches, which emerged later, have differing views. Is there an "official" position by the Jews?

It is a very interesting topic. For ~ 1.75% of the U.S. population who are ethnically Jewish, they have certainly impacted the American culture in a large way, for better and worse. Wikipedia stated that there were 7 branches of Judaism present in the U.S. Wikip also cited a 2003 Harris Poll which cited the breakout ... Wikipedia-American Jews

The Harris Poll survey found that of the 4.3 million strongly connected (U.S.) Jews (~67% of the U.S. Jewish population), 46% belong to a synagogue. Among those households who belong to a synagogue,...

38% are members of Reform synagogues
33% Conservative
22% Orthodox
2% Reconstructionist, and
5% other types.

 Reconstructionist Judaism (U.S.): 1985 - homosexual ordination, 1993 – homosexual marriage
 Reform Judaism (U.S.): 1990 - homosexual ordination, 2000 – homosexual marriage
 Conservative Judaism (U.S.): 2006 – homosexual ordination, 2012 – homosexual marriage
 Orthodox Judaism (U.S.): no homosexual ordination or marriage
